  1. I'm not a suicidal emo ^^ But I'm afraid that the theme pirates erase the soul of the Pillars' universe (not any play of word inside). And the answers of this thread confirm my fears :/. A touch of humor is welcomed especially if it corresponds to the personality of a character BUT humor for humor because is so cool and nothing has importance is a bad way for me. The world of Eora isn't a Marvel movie... Deadfire has a different cultural backdrop and therefore different themes but it´s done pretty darn well. The setting is, in my opinion consistend with the worldbuilding done in PoE 1 regarding coloniallism. It doesn´t feel like romanticised pirate shlog, it still has a dark tone and mature themes in many places. The humor presented is grim at times and doesn´t usually break the character. I would argue that gallows humor is a way for people to deal with difficult situations, so if presented, it doesn´t feel inappropriate.
  2. I play Devoted/Assassins with sabers and it didn´t dissapoint. The alpha is just disgusting, and even out of stealth it´s not hard to reach overpen. The only thing I regret I is going singel weapon specialisation so it´s on hold until the respec buff is fixed.
  3. What broken quests in Neketaka? I literally haven't found one, I have found some strange ones that work a little odd, but they weren't broke. Also those heinous import bugs were fixed in a patch that was available by the time you made this post? Yes people have a right to be upset, yes you have a right to call out and report bugs, there is nothing wrong with that. Just please stop calling the game broken, it is not broken. You can boot it up, you can play it, you can complete it. Could it be better? Yes. Does it need a difficulty balancing? Sure does. Are there some bugs? Yes, there are bugs. None of that means the game is "broken and unplayable" though. Look, I'm very happy for you not having any major bugs, but there are here others that do. And believe me, my playthrough is messy as hell. In Neketaka I can't finish any quests for Vallian Company nor even meet queen Onekaza. I can't reach Maia Rua, or director of the Rauataian company (sorry, forgot the name), because the game states that she's in palace, while she's not. She's at her office, but I'm unable to speak with her. Also I have broken quests on Tikawara and even the one with Furrante, who's now dead, but the game still wants me to talk with him. It would be funny, because as a Watcher I could do this, but as for the player it's only annoying as hell. I had many problems, including Eder's wrong past and an orlan baby and being 50 hours in the game I feel things not improving at all. There are encounters where some of the monsters (or all of them) suddenly disappear and reapperar minute later - not due to their abilities but due to bugs. There are encounters where I can't do anything, because I had to kill five or six monsters (bounty hunt) and one of them just stands there doing nothing and completely out of reach. It doesn't attack me, but I can't attack it either. So please tell me: if I can't finish my quests with my two favourite factions due to bugs, is my game broken or not? And I even didn't started ranting about polish localization which is messy and even can't figure if I'm male or female. I haven´t testet every possilbe combination, but it seems you can easily break a questchain by not doing them in the "intended" order. It seems like some quest triggers need fixing. I did some testing regarding Nekataka and found minor things like inconsitencies in the dialog, which is irritating at best or immersionbreaking at worst, depends on the person. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/99077-quest-sabotage-at-the-brass-citadel-cant-be-refused/ as an example. That doesn´t mean that the game is completly broken - and I am saying that as someone who has ran into an issue - but you can break your save.
  4. Fighter / Rogue is exactly how I imagined it to be. Love it. Stab someone, then punsh him down in order to stab him a bit more. Some slicing as well for good measure of course.
  5. Belakhor (Devoted/Assassin) Raised in the Deadfire Archipelo he went for the Dyrwood as mercanary to seek his furtune. Even though no stranger to the art of death, his awakening and the fallowing events regarding the hallowborn crisis changed him for the better. He found his catharsis. And now, as fate will have it, he is back to the Archipelo to seek for answers.
  6. Can´t tell for sure, but Galaxy client tries to download an update, but it always ends up with "server problem" . This might be a good sign for something beeing in the pipe, but take this with a grain of salt. Manuall download isn´t available, so this may just be my client acting strangly.
  7. In my opinion, Rogues are in a good spot right now regarding their combat skills and utility. Furthermore, even if this sounds a bit nit-picky, I d argue if you replace bland with pure, you have your identity for Rogues in combat: A pure physical damage dealer with high mobility, zipping around the battlefield and killing off high priority targets. Apart from combat I have to admit that I never liked the way D&D handles classes. Your Rogue would just become a skill monkey. I much prefer systems - in pen&paper RP and in CRPGs which don´t limit the player in that regard. Makes no sense to me either, but I guess this comes down to preference. Regarding the melee skills I agree with Rocketchaser. Apart from enemy resistances to certain types of afflictions, there are reasons for using different skills depending on the situation. You are missing penetration ? Crippling strike might be your best bet for overcoming armor or even reach overpenetration. You want to deny healing ? Then withering strike becomes an option. You want to set up a DoTs ? Gauging strike + Ring the bell has you covered.
  8. I ´d even argue that the game gives the impression that this isn´t urgent after dealing with Persa in the gullet. I killed everyone involved except for Persa. There might be someone left to fallow through with the plot ofc, but the corrupt Valera guard lies dead on the floor, which one might consider as setback to the heist.
  9. Thr quest never escalated into violence for me. The order I did the questline including the decision I made, hope this helps: 1. Resolved the duell without bloodshed. 2. Talked to Ezzali and agreed upon looking into Valera plot. During the conversation, I also asked for peace talks, she agreed under the condition for me to speak about this to the Berdetto famaily. 3. Resolved the Valrea plot quest in the gullet. 4. Then I talked to the Berdettos, accepted Martino´s quest to get rid of the Rauataian sailors at the mar. 5. Resolved the sailors quest peacefully. Upon returning, I asked Atello if he would agree to a meeting. He accepted. 6. Returned to Ezzali, turned in the Valera plot quest, then informed her that Atello agreed to a meeting. 7. Attended to the meeting and resolved the meeting with diplomacy. The only thing I can think of that the vault quest is on a timer, because this never happened to me. I never left the city during the questline. If thats the case, the questlog should inform the player that this is urgent. There is another quest later on where it is more then obvious that the quest is on a timer and the log informs the player that you should do this as soon as possible.
  10. I will add this to the compilation of continuity issues if you don´t mind.
  11. I rolled back to an even earlier save and may have found something of interest: Shadows under Nekataka can be resolved during Act 2. If you turn it in before meeting with Eothas at Magran teeth, you will get the Fruitful Alliance instead of Taking out the Traders. If you talk to the queen after the hearing, the quest seems to be skipped in favor of the faction allegiance quest. Did you pick up the quest during Act 2, but turned it in during Act 3 ?
  12. The idea is compiling all continuity issues the community finds into one thread for a better overview. Companions: Xoti spoiling the main quest. See https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/98186-xotis-quest-spoils-main-quest-spoiler/ for reference. The watcher refers to a tribe he hasn´t seen yet during Aloth dialog (see below). Huana quest line: The game thinks I ve been to Motare o Kozi and resolved the issue peacefully, yet I have never been there. This affects Aloth personal quest. I haven´t been to Motare o Kozi, yet my watcher refers to them in the dialog. After turning in Shadows under Nekataka, the game thinks I ve been there as well. This will start t he Fruitfull Alliance quest. If you have been to Magran´s teeth and turn in Shadows under Nekataka, you won´t get the Dialog for Fruitful Alliance, but Taking out the Traders. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/99077-quest-sabotage-at-the-brass-citadel-cant-be-refused/?hl=nekataka&do=findComment&comment=2019537 Main Quest issues: Wrong triggers for Hasango. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/99349-main-quest-issue/
  13. I really don't like this attitude of "other games have buggy launches, so it's not that bad". As a big fan of Obsidian, I'm no stranger to horribly buggy releases. But I hope that they realize that this reputation is not a good one to have. Especially now that they are pushing crowdfunding and pre-ordering so hard. Deadfire is the first and last Obsidian game I will buy before the several months of patching that are always needed for each one of their games. I know, I should've known better, but I loved PoE1 so much I couldn't resist. I am not ok with this either, nor was my intention to make excuses for this by basically saying "everyone is doing it, so it´s ok". All I wanted to do is setting matters into perspective. It´s just not a problem only Obsidian has (even if they earned this reputation in the past with games like Kotor 2 and F:NV in the past). And I have seen worse. Even my beloved Fallout 2 had at least one gamestopping bug when I first played it. Or Planscape: Torment on release, oh boy. It´s not a new problem and it´s a problem in the industry as a whole, especially since the age of digital releases. It´s much easier to release patches nowadays. Your conclusion to not buy or play a game on release and wait for patches in order to get an unspoiled experience is a fair one to make. A friend of mine always waits with every game he is buying a few month for instance. Ofcourse Obsidian want constructive criticism, but that's really not what's going on here. You're being completely tunnelvisioned, and your claims are false. It's not debatable. The consensus on steam, and on metacritic is that 90% of the reviews are very to overwhelmingly positive. An unplayable bugfest as you describe would NEVER get such reviews. Noone is saying, that there isn't any bugs, but it's really a minor issue for the most part. You're grasping at straws to force your false narrative upon this forum, and it's getting so damn old. One thing to consider is how minor the issue is depends on who's playing. I haven't run into any broken quests yet so I can't speak to that but that is going to affect anyone but stuff like the save import feature and even whether or not the relationship system works properly is going to matter more to some people than others. Just from watching LPs and reviews I have noticed this game has attracted a lot of players who either didn't play the last game, didn't complete it or completed it but then kinda forgot about it or whatever. This game is prettier, more open, has full VO and the pacing is a bit faster so it is attracting people who may not have been as interested in the last game. Those people aren't really going to care or even notice the issues with the import, they will just pick a preset and go with it. Most profeshional critics will also be in the camp of not caring about the save imports. Someone like me though it really bothers me when the game is flagging even minor choices i made wrong. I have two friends who are playing this game and neither of them have said anything about imports or bugs they are both really enjoying it. I agree. Some people might not even run into any major issues. And people will react differently to a given issue in general. It´s highly subjectiv. For some it might break the deal, other might still be able to enjoy it. Both views and those in between are valid in my opinion. The more sever it is and the more people it´s affecting, the more people will complain of course. However, regarding steam reviews, it´s an aggregated score which ultimatly only allows for a binary choice in the end. Most people won´t even write a review. As I am posting this, around 12.000 people are playing, but only 1013 wrote a review. It´s only a very small sample size, so trying to draw an objectiv conclsion from this is bound to fail. It´s an indicator allright, but nothing more. Some people might downvote it for bugs they experienced, other might have different reasons. Most of them are subjectiv complaints, some with merrit, some not. For instance, is PotD beeing to easy a problem for the majority of players ? I`d say only for those who like the particular challenge it has to offer. For everyone else, it is not. I am not arguing that this particual problem shouldn´t be adressed, in fact it should be but I doubt that the majority people who downvoted the game because of this will bother to change their review after the issue gets adressed and this dilutes the significane of the score. You indicated in your opening post that you think the lack of QA might hurt Obsidian on the long run, which might be true although I personally doubt that. Drawing this conclusion from steam reviews however is blowing things out of proportion in my opinion, no offense. Personally, I am not happy with the bug I ran into, heck me writing here instead of playing should be proof enough. But I still enjoy it overall and will most likely play more tomorrow.
  14. My biggest issue time and time again with steam reviews that it´s completly binary. I am not a big fan of review scores in general, but steams system makes it even worse. GoG at least has a score rating (it´s currently at 4.5/5, in case you are wondering). To be honest, the bugs are annoying. I can live with a CTD, some smaller issues like missing tooltip etc. but my playthrough came to a halt because of a story consitency bug. Furtunatly, I have an earlier save, but around 8 hours of progress are gone. If I am lucky it is getting fixed tomorrow, but who knows. But I still enjoy the game very much, even with said bugs, it´s becoming one of my favorite CRPGs. I haven`t finished it yet, so I might change my opionion on that. But, to be fair: A bugged release is not an Obsidian exclusive by any stretch of the imagination. I played Wasteland 2 on release and the second half of the game was a mess. Lot´s of quest related bugs, some gamestopping even. Same with Divinity Original sin 2, which was a mess even 2 month after release. Torment: Tides of Numenera was more polished, but it had it´s problems as well Don´t get me wrong please. I donnot like gamestopping bugs or bugs where you have to rely on a rollback save. But he game is still far from unplayable. TL; DR: The system steam uses to aggregate the average user score needs an update.
  15. I tested around a bit more and fallowed through. The absurd thing is, during the hearing, I even openly admited to blow it up on the queens order and Maia stays. She isn´t happy, but she won´t leave. I really don´t understand. Second attempt during the hearing, I fallowed the Queens original plan, but Maia stays, too. Then I spoke to her without ever visiting the queen. During her dialog, I even choose "Fairly proud. I was hoping for a bigger boom." and she stays. *Welp*
  16. Isn´t 2 Reputation the maximum you can get with a companion ? I got the steadfast ally achievement and none of my characters is above 2. Or is this supposed to go higher and I am affected by this bug as well ?
  17. I have a very similar problem. I wanted to turn in shadows under Nekataka but instead the dialog for the quest Taking out the Traders started. I ve gone through with the dialog, but did not agree with the plan, the queen even told me something like "If we cannot gain your trust, we have allreally failed" or something like that. The quest for blowing up the powderhouse gets added anyway, despite me telling the queen that I donnot agree to the plan. I entered Brass Citadel in order to turn in The Courier´s Calling, Maias dialog about her needing to do that on her own starts, all fine so far, but as soon as I click on "end dialog", she starts complaining about me wanting to go through with blowing up the powderhouse, without voiceover I might add and without any option to defuse the situation. I am perfectly fine with companions drawing the line when it comes to certain decissions, but, as I said, I did not commit to the queen´s plan and her last lines of dialog reasured me that the game has noticed that. Her leaving conversation fireing without voiceover and at this awkward timing as descriped above seems like a bug to me, at least I hope this is a bug. Otherwise, the queens lines are just confusing. Edit Sorry for kind off hijacking this, I did not want to make an extra thread with a very smilar issue as this might be related. If it helps, here is my save file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/htwyo3yxkex1nbm/Belakhor%20%28QueensBerth%29%20%28da3586ee-d134-4373-9efb-6893f1285982%29%20%28771542562%29.rar?dl=0 Edit 2: Found an older save where I turned in the quest Shadows under Nekataka immidiatly fallowing up with the dialog for Taking out the traders. There is no option to deny the quest or leaving the dialog after turning in Shadows under Nekata. However, choosing option 4 is resulting in an answers which comes closest to denying her request. The game treats it like I want to blow up the powderhouse if entering Brass Citadel with Maia.
  18. The crew healing bugs out sometimes, happened to me and other people as well. Furtunatly, you can fix this yourself: Move the injured crew member from resting to any active ship post, travel a bit, then put them back into resting. Other people reported the moved their surgeon as well, so if the above doesn´t work for you, you might want to try this as well. See https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/98476-ship-crew-injured-not-healing/?hl=%2Bcrew+%2Bhealing for reference.
  19. Uppon reaching Ashen Maw, Maia wants to speak to me (speech bubble over her portrait). When I initiate dialog however, there are only the usual choices, no new line of dialog to choose from.
  20. Afflictions are also lowering one attribute by a set amount, for instance hobbled lowers the dexterity score by 5. If I understand the system correctly, afflictions which lower physical attributs are body afflictions, those which lower mental attributes are mind afflictions. However, there are status effects which donnot count as an affliction, like prone for instance. Just tested this and I didn´t get the bonus damage from sneak attack against a proned target.
  21. It´s highly situational in my opinion. I would only use it to achieve overpenetration for the + 30 % damage bonus on certain weapons, otherwise I rather switch to a different damage type which might circumvent high armor values. Longswords are best suited for this as you trade of deflection for it. On the other hand, they only have a base pen of 6 insteadn of 7, so you effectivly only gain 1 pen.
  22. I can confirm the bug as well. If you leave the building after recruiting him once, he will be gone the next time you enter, so the issue seems to be with the cutscene not firering.
  23. Rogues are kind off squishy, especially assassin as they take 15% more damage. You will be fine with your original idea and I encourage you to try it, if you are in for the appeal or class fantasy. There is no point in going "min-max optimised" and ruin the fantasy of your choice by doing so. But you should consider defensive options later in the game. I am playing assassin myself, but I picked a multiclass(assassin/devoted) kind off gimmick build, so I cannot speak for how a pure assassin plays later in the game. Some things to consider though: Your opener from stealth will always use your main hand weapon, even if you are dual-wielding. This is true for a pure auto-attack and any skill you might want to use. The offhand attack doesn´t benefit from assassination or backstab. This leaves two-handed weapons as most optimal if you want to get the most out of your stealth attack. However, almost all active skills a rogue has are so called full attacks, those use both weapons, which means they are benefitting from dualwielding. If you want to utilize assassination often, you might want to settle for a skill which lets you restealth in combat. The cheapest skill guile-wise is smokebomb.
  24. 1. Viable, but not optimal. To eleborate: Most Rogue skills are full attacks, meaning you are using both weapons. If you are using a skill on range, you miss out the damage from your dagger. 2. See previous posters 3. All Rogue active skills are melee and range as far as I am aware. 4. You can do stealth attacks from range, assassination passive doesn´t require you to be in melee range. However, if you are going to skill backstab and want to utilize it, you have to be in melee range for it to work with a ranged weapon basically.
