Um guys... if you really think that's the true way of playing the game you should have the willpower to back it up. Meaning you should be able to follow your belief and play it like that, without the developers doing it for you.

My first thought exactly. They look nice, but i have a feeling we might have some problems recognising which character is which on the screen. I think it's because some of the shadows on the character's textures are very black and if you look at it from afar they all blend together too much. Maybe add a secondary light from below, since the floor is basically a soft light reflector?

I don't understand why can't people who don't like save scumming just force themselves to play by their own rules. I will probably avoid doing it, and all i need is willpower. I'm playing BG2 ee atm with the rule set that i am not allowed to reload any save (unless the cause is a bug) If my companion dies permenatly, that's that. And if my main char dies that's the end of that playthrough. And it's the most fun i've had in a long time.

I kind of have to agree with Sharp, i didn't dislike the cards in witcher 1 ofcourse the witcher 2 scenes were better but that was only possible because the game wasnt issometric. Here you can't actually have that. So i would be fine with just some discriptive text, or an image card. This is obviously me just assuming if there would be anything sexual like that in the game, for the sake of discussion.

Dem character portraits O_O I hope they are companions Thanks for posting that Infinitron -
Basically the only thing that makes the game mature these days is whether or not it contains sex, does it not? If you see all the movies and games these days they got strong language and violence and get away with Teen rated. I don't have the BG2 box anymore, was that game rated mature? Although it did imply sex, the closest thing it got to was: 1:"Love you" 2:"Love you too" 1:"Goodnight!"

I think there probably will be some powerful builds that will be better than the rest, like in any game, but the difference here is that it's not a multiplayer game, and you don't need to strive to be better than all the other players. So even if there will be some better combinations on how to make your character, you don't need to do it, since the game dificulty will probably be balanced around average builds.

Hit & Miss - Finalized/Updated?
Cubiq replied to Pray's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I think it's the same with flame or any other elemental type, if someone put on an iron plate armor now and stood in front of a flamethrower i'm sure he would succeed in fusing himself with the plate he's wearing, right before dropping dead. So i'm wondering why armor has anything to do with spell damage, unless we are talking about some kind of ranged auto attack that the wizard has, but i haven't heard anything about that. -

What about other type, like elemental, corruption, soul draining, choking, affliction? I'm sure wizards won't just be throwing rocks at people. -
I want another Bowser or Gannon

Isnt this kind of pointless to talk about? i'm sure they had the story already written in pre-production since that is pretty much the building block of everything. -

Uh so they get reduced by armor also? -
For me the biggest downside atm is the getting xp only on quests. I fear this will make the game very linear and perhaps even force you to complete quests you don't actually like on every playthrough, simply because you have no other choice on where to get xp. Imagine having to do candlekeep chores every time you started a new game. Or having to backtrack the whole dungeon, simply because you find out you aren't strong enough to face the final battle. Especially now that they plan to make damage spikes and combat less random, (which i also thought gave a lot of replayability to the IE games) so your stats will most likely be what dominates on whether you win or lose. From what i hear the xp system is implemented to prevent powergamers from killing everyone once they complete the quest, but you could easily fix this by simply taking away the majority of the xp from the quest giver after the player completed the quest. After all, xp is subjective. I don't know what the update on weapon/armor types are but last i heard there was a chance, you would need to keep switching weapons vs different types of armor, even in a single encounter, or face a 50% damage penalty. It feels a tedius shallow mechanic.

Well that's not really true. Just like a melee weapon needs to be harder for the characters with high strength not to shatter it, so too can you have sturdier and stiffer bows that requre more strength to load and can whithstand the greater bending strains to unload a more powerful shot. Since we know: greater the action, greater the opposite reaction. And I think with high dex characters you can just make them fire multiple arrows at once to balance the dps. (but there wont be str/dex stats in the game from what i just read)
