  1. I agree. Especially when I'm playing a druid I recall playing with Faldorn in the party in BG1 - with the BG NPC mod she gets really annoyed with you if you kill those bears
  2. Yes (though the time doesn't work out for me to watch live, I'll catch the video later )
  3. All sounds good except point 1 on character creation - I like the zoomed in model like it is. We've mentioned before about the adjustable AOE size between min and max - it's a great idea to not penalise you for pumping INT
  4. I agree that the xp should be rewarded, regardless of whether you're on a quest, and I thought that's how it worked. It seems odd, though, that Indiralightfoot could play through 5 hours and get zero-xp. Hence the current change of opinion from 'hey, objective-xp could be really good' to 'Oh, you really just meant quest-xp, that's not so good).
  5. It's not that it invalidates doing things - I'll happily go through mobs and explore areas with no-xp ... for a while. But if it gets to the stage where you're playing for 5 hours and actually accomplishing things and still receiving zero-xp since you didn't ask permission from a villager first ... then it becomes a problem with the progression system. Obs said the demo would be 3-6 hours with the ability to go from level 5-8 (with exaggerated xp-rewards to test the level-up stuff) - but it sounds like you have to play in a certain way to get that - against the stated design goal. Really? I was sure that Adam got it in the 2nd gamescon vid without talking to the farmer first - was it the same ogre? (Just checking that this mightn't all be an xp-bug)
  6. Yes you may - get 3 six-sided dice, roll them on the desk (old school) and go with what they tell you for each attribute - if you get all 18's, I guess you have to reroll since you won't have enough points but it should work on average. I may do this for a 3rd playthrough - a 'get what you're given' style. Oooh, could also roll for race and class etc (I know there's only 11 classes - getting a '12' would be 're-roll') - that might actually be fun,
  7. You can keep those. I will miss miniature GIANT space hamsters! Those are much better! It's great how that automatically gets said in Minsc's voice in my head
  8. Not voting as I've yet to play the game but if I were to vote, I'd be torn between choosing options 3 and 4 in a balance or 3, 4 and 5 since obviously only kill-xp wouldn't be the way to go but since that option's probably meant to be 'BG like, kill-xp plus quest-xp' it might be the simplest solution at this stage.
  9. That's just it - the system was sold to me on the idea of being able to play the way you want and overcome obstacles (and I assumed go exploring for fun). As it sounds from the beta testers, it's more like doing what you're told (which I believe the kill-xp crowd were presciently complaining about).
  10. Tried twice to edit to put the relevant quote I was referring to but it didn't seem to stick - oh well, should be obvious. Thread's moving too quick for a simple carat ^ to suffice
  11. ^technically you can do that with quest-xp though - go out of your way to get to the quest-givers of the world and then doing whatever they tell you to do since that's the only way to get xp: "Adventurers, eh? I'm in need of someone to slaughter Farmer Brown's pigs and blame it on an ogre. I'll pay 200cp (and 2000xp)" "Sir, yes sir"
  12. Edit: So many double-posts lately
  13. can't play the beta myself but judging from recent posts in this thread: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/66528-experience-point-mechanics-fighting-enemies/page-27 it seems it really is just quest-xp (as opposed to 'objective-xp' for doing things) - in which case, I don't like that you can only be rewarded xp for completing certain things. I honestly thought we'd be rewarded 'wow, you found a hidden cave' xp or 'way to solve those puzzles' xp or even 'didn't get killed while spelunking' xp Missed opportunity with the whole objective-xp vs. kill-xp thing
  14. ^ok, if it's really just quest-xp and not the objective-xp (sensibly placed) that I was assuming, then yeah ... missed opportunity and not sounding fun.
  15. You get xp for completing objectives - not just when you report back to the quest-giver - go kill the ogre and see.
  16. ^That's right - you need to pledge the $35 for the lowest game tier and you can add the beta as an add-on while you do that.
  17. I noticed that - great name that lets the viewer know how much to expect
  18. Just been watching through some of Bryv's first video (character creation) - nice to see you in your birthday hat Thanks for going through the classes Will have to watch the rest tomorrow - my internet connection is fine in the mornings but sucks in the afternoons - we're calling the telecomm company to try and do something about that.
  19. There's a decimal point in the copper pieces? Is this a result of local currencies being converted into the universal cp? Surely it wouldn't break the bank to round that up or down to the nearest piece on collection. Seems silly to display 0.6 of a copper piece.
  20. ^but then you're pretty much down to 'wanna play a might character? - gotta pick Dwarf (or whatever). As it stands, you can choose the race you want and still make the sub-type you want.
  21. Happy Birthday now you've finally got it Bizarre double-post,
  22. Well I have to wait 4 more months to play so and Happy Birthday now you've finally got it
  23. ^We don't have a final number yet, but it'll be more than there are in the beta. I'm looking around for specs - we know the character screen ones are 210x330 but not sure about the HUD ones - so I can make my own
  24. Great - can you also check the size of the HUD portraits (bottom left of game-screen ones) - are they a separate resource or are they shrunk-down? (handy to know if one is considering a custom portrait). On-topic: My favourites are probably the Aumaua and the Druid (both backer portraits) but I also really like most of the godlike ones. Less enamoured with the Orlan but that's only because he looks too much like a 'noble' in that pic - hopefully there'll be more Orlan choices (for some reason that's the race I have most trouble making my own pics of)
