  1. ^basically, yes. As I said earlier - a little simulationism is good, taking it too far makes the game more cumbersome than fun. Where any given person draws the line is naturally down to personal taste. (Side note: I'd also enjoy playing a full-on simulationist rpg - something akin to what I imagine Kingdom Come:Deliverace is going to be like - just not what I want from PoE)
  2. Nice idea for the illusory simulacra. I'll have a go: Uneven Ground - the ground is warped in an AOE (stones stick up out of the ground or something) - chance for enemy / ally to be tripped (effect like knockdown, leading to prone state) - save vs. DEX(?) IE like: - like Grease, it's a double-edged sword as it affects allies too but thrown ahead at a charging horde, it can thin the ranks to give you less to deal with at once. PoE like: It's not a win-button, it depends on the enemies' stats to be effective but chance of success will be such that it doesn't affect everyone in a group
  3. ^really don't like taking simulationism that far - for one, it punishes a player who wants to have a halberd as their secondary weapon (even though such may not be much more powerful in game than a longsword), or specialise in halberds and have a halberd of fire and a halberd of ice for different opponents. - and for another, it would involve adding 'halberd strapped to back' animations (plus every other weapon than daggers / shurikens) - unless you just want to simulate the effects but in-game see the halberd only in your pack as now. I also don't want to lose the personal inventory space, even if we do have the stash: 1) I'll use it to organise my most-wanted equipment/scrolls/whatever among different characters - (I like to roleplay the cleric holding the potions and the mage holding the scrolls in BG, for example) 2) I can do a playthrough without using the stash except as a 'drop to ground' substitution
  4. ^Check out the wiki page for known info and pictures: http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Stronghold Edit: also a 'before/after' pic reposted in this post: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/64350-update-63-stronghold/?p=1400651
  5. "Pillars of not quite so long" (Dungeon Be Gone edition)
  6. SImulationism need not be extreme - I find it best when applied in general terms. So the limiting of carried items by weight needn't go as far as having them affect you by bulk (how you fight with a packful of halberds is beyond me) (or even fit a halberd into your backpack). So yes, some simulationy aspects are good when not taken to extremes. We can ground a gameworld with some aspects of realism (helping immersion) without needing to cripple the gameplay experience with it. Like the limited ammo of IE games - but we should be able to carry more arrows than 'normal' because a single arrow doesn't kill a target.
  7. ^I never had the 'back and forth to town' nor the stashing stuff in containers problem in IE games - I just made a decision of what to take and what to leave (though I'll admit that the gem-bags were handy ) Larger stacks of ammo tweak was good too (though PoE is no-ammo anyway)
  8. ^It's more fun and immersive to find stuff like that than to auto-start with it.
  9. ^Mayhaps we don't really 'own' the stronghold - could be we're just given dominion over it on a lifetime basis in service to the greater lord/king (who figures the 'lifetime' of an adventurer isn't all that long and in the meantime he gets it renovated for free )
  10. ^The stash is carried on a donkey named Bill (Might: 2000) I didn't like the stash idea either, especially now it's accessible anywhere out of combat and not just at rest spots (did I get that right?) - but it's not going to change as the game is too far along with that in mind and there are far more important things to fix - so I've made peace with it. Maybe I'll do a 'no deep stash' playthrough and just not use it. (Hmm, except we can't 'drop' things either so...lemme think on this one)
  11. ^er, the thread was about the kickstarter in-game item. Pre-order bonus items #1 and #2 are being given to the backers as well as the pre-orderers: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/69314-pre-orders-and-new-trailer-now-live/ (first post)
  12. ^Even as a slacker backer, you can buy beta access through the backer portal ( http://eternity.obsidian.net then click on 'My Account' and click 'Manage my pledges' - 'buy addons')
  13. ^It's the http://eternity.obsidian.net site where we already confirmed our pledges and you can check your orders (click on 'my account' at the top right - there's nothing yet about confirming gog or steam but I imagine that'd be the place once they're ready for us to do so.
  14. ^Send them an IOU? (seriously, just tell them "I've got you covered with one of my spare keys")
  15. Related thread: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/69327-when-do-backers-get-their-steam-keys/ short answer - you can get a Steam-key (or GOG if you prefer) but we don't know when - probably nearer the time
  16. Yes you will - that's been confirmed for a very long time We just don't know when the keys will be given out - probably nearer the time as stated above. It will probably be done by choosing it through the backer portal site where you confirmed your pledge, but Devs will confirm the how of it later.
  17. ^exactly - the point is that some people pledged at a higher tier (giving Obsidian more money with which to develop the game) in order to get the digital almanac etc etc. It wouldn't be fair to those people if Obs now gave all that away to the lower tiers. (I don't know if RTG had those same style tiers for Dreamfall Chapters but I would call that a nice gesture, not a fair one) (Don't get me wrong - I'd personally be thrilled if I got all that stuff too - I just don't think it's fair for me to get it).
  18. ^might exclude them from 'buying'/'claiming' it on gog/steam account though New trailer was PEGI 16 - not sure if that's for the trailer or the game though.
  19. Nearer the time of release they'll be asking us to confirm (via the backer portal) whether we want it on steam / gog / whoever the choices are. So yes, you can have a steam key if you want (or a gog code if you prefer, like me ) cheaper than what? I'm expecting basic $25 pledge (or $35 late backer) to be the 'Hero' edition as that's what we pledged for - basic game digital download (plus those 2 backer/pre-order bonus items) If you look at what's included in 'Champion' edition, it's what the higher tiers got (More like the 'Digital collector's edition' or near-as)
  20. I guess it depends which tier you backed - as a lowest tier backer (basic digital game copy), I'm expecting the 'Hero Edition' (it's there on gog but you have to find it via the news announcement - the big splash screen one just shows the Champion Edition).
  21. Nice new trailer glad I backed already Great seeing it up on gog for pre-order (I can only see the Champion edition on there btw (EDIT: Ah, the Hero edition is linked via the news announcement but not the main splash page) Really looking forward to getting my hands on this
  22. ^It needn't be 'romance for the player' in order for the player to enjoy 'romance for their character'. If I read a book wherein there is romance for the character (I don't read 'romance books' but I've read books with romance in them), then it's not a substitute for my real-life romance nor a thing I can't get in real life - it's about caring what happens to the characters. Romance, friendships, any other inter-personal relationships in the game will affect how your character views people (and how you as a player view them if you're roleplaying) - is Jaheira a disposable killing machine? Do Jan's stories entertain you enough to keep him in the party, or do you just feel sorry for the guy? I can go out and make friends in real life just as I can have romance - doesn't mean I don't want friendships and romance in my rpg.
  23. Also nice (though I prefer the flipped version with log on left). I especially like: simple, at a glance, elegance.
  24. Well, there's room there for the combat log to be wider without overlapping the portraits, and it can always be made to stretch vertically too. Looks plenty big enough to me (and I like the portraits being in the middle) (assuming they can't be on the side BG-style)
  25. I'd be happy with the L-shape too (or rather one vertical bar on the right and the combat log et al in the middle as shown)
