PC Gamer just put up an unedited version of their demo walkthrough here: http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/07/30/pillars-of-eternity-video-josh-sawyer-on-character-creation-and-infinity-rpgs/. It's a fair bit longer than the others because Josh gives some very thorough explanations but there's nothing that will be new to anyone who's been following the game's development as closely as most of the forumites.

Guess the release date!
MasterPrudent replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Evidently Feargus doesn't agree with you when it comes to when winter starts: “We are absolutely going to ship this year,” said Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart during the announcement at this week’s Game Developer Conference in San Francisco. “It’s not going to ship in the early summer, but it’s not going to be the day before Christmas either.” (http://www.pcworld.com/article/2109543/paradox-obsidian-team-up-to-publish-pillars-of-eternity.html) On that basis I'd say their targeted release window is in the Sensuki-Karkarov range. I'd like to pick 16 December. Although just to be clear if that is the date I get a reduced reward (if anything) but Karkarov still gets a full reward, right? Because if I'd reduce Karkarov's potential winnings I'd prefer to sit this one out. -
I think it's reasonable to expect combat to get fancier in later levels and with larger parties as the number of abilities your characters have increases and you add classes with lots of varied spells. Low level combat with "mundane" classes (fighters, rogues, usw) in RPGs often looks pretty boring even in modern, flashy rpgs like DA:O.

Backer Beta: Coming August 18th

But can you play CO-OP that is the question!?? BG CO-OP *dribbles* Was so good! You've asked this question before in this thread and received an answer. The answer is still the same: there is no co-op in this game. They have minimal funding and a relatively small team so they decided to focus on creating an expansive, engaging single player experience. EDIT: Source: See here: 'GameBanshee' said -

Hey Jajo, if you haven't done so already it might be worth contacting support and seeing if they can help you out: https://eternity.obsidian.net/backer/contact -
I can appreciate that you're new to the forums but I'm not sure what search terms you were using when checking for threads related to GUI: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/63851-update-54-art-update-work-is-in-progress/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/64769-fear-uiv2/ http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/63854-ui-style-preference/ As you can see there have been some truly epic threads on this topic and every last possible permutation has been considered and fought over. I'd also be surprised if UI was something Obs would consider redesigning at this stage of the project.

And it is the E3 stuff so there you go. EDIT: "Oh my God, just knock them down Brandon! It's a slaughter!" I love that the wildlife isn't ****ing around. Also they really do appear to have nailed the IE "feels". That cursor! The green slime! The way the characters have their little acknowledgement barks when you move them!

How do you even know the length? And yeah I am happy the question however still remains why now and not at E3. I doubt it is really different footage than the E3 stuff. Given that they've been keen to keep the lid on even mild story spoilers I doubt it is E3 stuff. Remember how every other preview mentioned that they skipped quickly through most of the dialogue? What's the point of doing that if they're going to upload it as a pausable video just a few weeks later? I think it's more likely that this is a preview of the backer beta stuff.

Icewind Dale 2
MasterPrudent replied to Michael_Galt's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I believe that Chris Avellone recently said that of all the IE games PoE most closely resembled Baldur's Gate. Although I'm not sure if he was referring to the series or the first game. -

In the event that they don't offer the beta through steam early access you still have to option of pledging now (https://eternity.obsidian.net/buy) and getting beta access as an add-on. From memory the whole package adds up to something like $60. -

Hiding helmet option
MasterPrudent replied to namelessthree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'm not sure this option would make much sense for an isometric game given that (a) you'll be looking down at your characters' 3D models from some distance away so you're not going to be able to see much of their faces anyway and (b) you'll have their (fairly large) portraits sitting in your UI bar at all times. -
Is that really true? I remember in DA2 I told Anders I just wanted to be friends and I don't remember any issues, he may have sulked ...but he was still in my party and played an active role in combat. I don't think he asked again, so in 50 hours of gameplay I didn't consider a 3 minute dialogue with him as intrusive or a game flaw....what am I missing? For the most part it's not true at all. However in DA:O it's very easy to trigger a romance with Leliana after doing her companion quest with fairly innocuous dialogue choices. /end off topic

PROS 1. This may seem strange but, um, the Death Godlike heads are so weird and creepy that it makes me really excited to play as one of them. 2. Being able to play around with six party members at any one time. There aren't a lot of party RPGs out there and I'm getting kind of sick of most of them limiting me to four party members at the very most. 3. The loot system. I know this has been derided as an option that panders to "casuals" (yeah, right, the casuals who play 50+ hour rpgs) but for me this is ideal. I'm one of those guys who tends to loot everything and put it into my inventory and I've never played a game in which constantly deciding what to keep and what to drop wasn't tedious and fiddly. This way I can keep the stuff I want to use, send rest to my stash and never worry about it again. 4. The painted 2D backgrounds and stylised multiple choice screens. I love that these buck the current preference for near photorealism in videogame graphics but aren't obnoxiously nostalgic in the way that I feel the 16 bit look is. 5. The strong sense of a unique history that all the lore brings to the world. Just from reading the updates this place feels lived in and real. CONS 1. The setting, world and characters are probably not going to be as strange as my ideal fantasy RPG but I guess that's what Tides of Nuwhatsit is for. 2. Stronghold management. I'm worried about whether this is really going to tie into the main story or whether it's going to feel like a minigame that just sits in one corner of the world. I'm also hoping it isn't as inconvenient as constantly returning to the thieves guild in BG2 was - that just felt like work. 3. Portrait choice. I'm a sucker for a wide variety of portraits and I think that between painting NPCs, Party members and so on they're going to have their work cut out for them when it comes to getting a bunch of these in the game. I also wonder to what extent the little models are going to be able to mirror the portraits (SR:R had some weird disconnects imo). But I guess that's what the portrait import function is going to be for. 4. Sidequest quality: On one hand I'm a compulsive completionist. On the other hand I feel like almost all sidequests in RPGs are flat out boring (I think P:T is the only RPG I've played which had consistently interesting sidequests) so I'm hoping PoE can buck the trend. 5. It's not on my hard drive right now.

I wouldn't worry about this one. I think the reason we've heard so little about characters and so much about the world is that Obsidian is being very wary of letting story spoilers out into the wild. Even the E3 demo invitees were writing about the demonstrators hastily clicking through text before they had a chance to read it. Also I don't remember any of the devs praising the IWD storylines (although Josh has written glowing things about their art style/level design). EDIT: These are the guys who gave us Atton, Kreia, Cass, Steven Heck, Gann and many others. It'll be fine.
