  1. Having been recently reduced from major regional power to more or less insignificant peninular on top of Germany we decided to be practical about it, much like when Hitler invaded.
  2. I prefer movies with a strong human acting component. 2001 has practically none. I still like it for other reasons, but there isen't much rewach quaility in they eye candy alone. Despite all this it's still a good sci fi movie.
  3. Since some twerp stole my bike I have had to walk everywhere, public transportation is a joke. An hour to work and back, I bet thats real heathy though. I don't subscribe to the philosophy of moving with no tangible purpose other than improving my constitution, much less running. The vast majority of self inflicted injuries are fitness related, I might not live to be a hundred but at least i'll have all my tendons and joins in good working order.
  4. My opinion is that 2001 and 2010 are rather slow moving and extremely pretentious, but are good enough to forgive their faults. They are also supremely skilled cinematography.
  5. 'I thought Solaris was a very interesting Sci-Fi, the original Russian film is albiet more groundbreaking - but still.' Well theres one. It might not be to the liking of the puritans, and indeed, why re-make when you can cre-ate (ain't I clever) It did take the genre seriously though. Science fiction is what might be possible, staying within the realm of physics, science fantasy is what you wish were possible.
  6. He's dead on the money with sci fi, I can't even remember the last movie to take the genre seriously.
  7. Well, anything consenting adults get up to for kicks should be their business and no one else's, but this was a public restroom, thats kinda gross.
  8. Hey guys, Federalism obviously means NO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! Even the founding fathers understood the utility of a Federal government. It's like you think everyone against the federal government holding too much power over individuals are like those militants who tried arguing that Texas was still a Republic. No, I believe I said that Federealism was good in a country that is so large and diverse, otherwise the people would be too far removed from the seat of power.
  9. There really aren't that many countries that adhere as religiously to their founding documents as the US. If the relation between state and local government had not changed over the course of 3 centuries that would be unusual in the extreme. Federalism is all well and good as a democratic country that is so large and diverse as the US, but who other than the federal goverment was going to tackle Al Capone, the institutionalised racism that came to the forefront during the civil rights era, the great depression, etc. Funny you should quote Reagan, who engineerd the largest increase in federal spending in US history during the cold war. Where was local accountability then ?.
  10. Chirac had two mistresses show up at his funeral. Are there any openly gay senators, congresmen/women ?. Got one rather loudly gay city councilman where i'm at.
  11. I guess you have to watch how you tap your feet in the mensroom, apparently it's like one of those secret gay handshakes.
  12. What Cameron said !
  13. I was Vader, which is handy since he's the only character other than Yoda I can stand.
  14. Well yes, I suppose boring is much worse than bad, but Delicatessen, City of the forgotten children, Amelie - some of my favorite wacky movies. Then this bland mash of comercialism and eye candy. So sad.
  15. I have a soft spot for predator 2, even if it is pretty silly, it did what it was supposed to do well, and I like Danny Glover as leading man, other than that, everything after Aliens have been varying degrees of disapoinment, the greatest disapoinment is that one of my favorite directors screwed up one of my favorite series, eg, Alien Ressurection, by going the 'comic' route instead of holding to realism. Space pirates and gene alien muppet freaks,... what the hell for ???
  16. I disagree on comics, but, the games haven't been bad. In movies, the crab faced hunters fared quite well alone, Predator 2 is better for my money than the last Alien movie. They don't work well with Aliens in movies because the Alien universe should be all about survival horror and most of all realism. The preds don't fit the bill, they are too much larger than life, and they aren't needed anyway, for realism you need a strong acting component, preds can't act, at least Aliens can be scary.
  17. I wish someone would perform an operation to remove all traces of predators from from oficial alien 'cannon'
  18. I have to say though that I have very little interest in superheroes unless it's done by someone I like already, then I can forgive the subject matter and enjoy it.
  19. I guess it's an aquired taste, I always thougth Sandman was just silly. Good comics don't come from one country, or one continent, the gods were fair and sprinkled crap and briliance equally.
  20. Theres plenty of good manga and anime, it's just hiding behind mounds and mounds of crap. Much like comics really. PS, Val
  21. Thats one impressive package on green ring guy. Anywho, superheroes are usually, usually, boring, but comics is so much more than superhero stuff fortunately. I just started reading Jeff Smith's Bone from end to end now that I have them all.
  22. It is astoundly hilarious, how they use the word "victim" for someone who was assaulted on the shoulder with a punch of cooked meat(meat?, you never know with Euro sausages). I resent that, the best sausages in the world are made in Italy, everyone knows that.

Our suggar comes out of turnips. One thing I don't understand though, Unrefined suggar tastes so much better when it's from canes, so, why do they even bother refining it into the white kind. And why does unrefined suggar with the molasses still in it cost more, doesen't make any sense.
  24. They don't use ponchos in Afghanistan you muppet.

I can't fathom the 'gangland' dog fighting culture among mostly latinos and blacks. It's utterly demented. Just a reaction from a dog owner who doesen't care anything for American football, or this twerp's career.
