  1. I just noticed it weighs 20 kilograms - EMPTY lols.
  2. So, this is the 'monster from the blue lagune'. http://www.antec.com/uk/productDetails.php?ProdID=09191# It has a few positive reviews, although you should be cautious of impartiality of price comparison sites. The Zalman PSU alone costs half of what I would pay for this PSU+Case. It's a two in one PS split in a 650 watt for the mobo and PCI cardds and a 550 watt for the drives and the rest. http://www.antec.com/pdf/flyers/Neo-link_flyer.pdf Now comes the hard part. Is this sufficient for new cards in Sli/Crossfire. Is it going to last me a long time. I read something about the PCI connectors needing to be 'running on a dual rail' in the PS thread. I have no idea what this means. My guess is that this combo is better than a single 850 watt because they share the load. The case has the HDDs isolated from the board for more efficient cooling and materials designed to lower noise. The way I see it there is not very much to save by getting a Zalman or quatro 850 watt + another case, and this way at least I know the internal cables are going to be a snug fit.
  3. Now I'm torn, trying to figure out if I should hold out for a 4870x2, counting my money. I bloody knew this was going to happen
  4. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, with electricity potentially lethal. Fortunately I don't know a damn thing.
  5. I guess this has something to do with the magic that is electricity, more specifically grounding. Why she didn't get more seriously damaged that is.
  6. Screwing a company while you are leaving creates a bad impression that may stick, nothing wrong with playing out all your options before you are hired.
  7. Morality is not an emotional response, it usually entails hard choices with no immediate benefits. Thats not the same as sympathetic neurons making you feel glad when you see a smile and distressed at pain. That would be empathy, the most important building block of human socialisation. You might say Morality is the long view. I'm not sure what I'm responding to, but I thought it was an interesting differentiation.
  8. I'm remembering that scene from the Matrix where the Frenchie says 'Morality is an illusion created between those with power and those without.' Who is he quoting again, Nietzsche ? Anyway, morality is an abstract, you decide if it means anything to you. Fortunately a lot of people wind up thinking just that.
  9. Apples and oranges. Getting away with it is not the same as being right.
  10. I'm thinking I want a case too. I like Antec, thats what I have now, a big unwieldy case with plenty of unobstructed airflow and space that doesn't make a lot of noise, just the way I like it. The ones that come with a PSU are usually good value, unfortunately theres a huge gap between the 1200 watt monster from the blue lagune and the rest. Zalman makes gorgeous cases that are unfortunately way out of my budget.
  11. He's a 15 year old kid, not a terrorist mastermind. Jeez.
  12. I would probably be jumping for joy, if I were 13 years old.
  13. To clarify I should say that the 'C0' stepping matches what I found on intel (some of it) and there is no listing on 'E0' which might be an oddball not produced in any great number. This is promising as far as I can see.
  14. I like the MSI because it supports DDR 3 SD ram, which is what I want if I'm to salvage it later.
  15. So i'm on Intel and according to them 'E0' is not a valid stepping. Which is odd. http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx...c=&OrdCode= However, armed with the local retailers product number, I find that it matches what Intel calls the 'Box order nr'. Well one of them, because of course there is two, and the other one doesn't match mine from the retrailer Retailers supplied product nr BX80570E8400 On intel : Box Order Code: BXC80570E8400 BX80570E8400
  16. Yeah, but I don't want to buy a combo thats not verified to work.
  17. Ok so I looked at this MSI, remember it's not expected to last through an upgrade so I might as well save where I can. Going with an x38 rather than a x48 chipset. http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcp...p;cat3_no=#menu This is all the cpu info I have for the one i'm looking at : Core 2 Duo E8400 3 GHz / Socket 775 / 1333 MHz / 6 MB L2 / 72.4
  18. yeah typo. Anyway looks nice
  19. Also, will any chipset that is on the crossfire ready list from ATI accept the cards. Is there some special feature or designation in PCI express that must be present. I ask because the Radeons are called PCI-E-A series and the Nvidia cards PCI-E-N series - but I'm having trouble finding that differentiation when I'm looking at board they just list the number of PCI E and PCI 32 slots. Is the PCI E slot just where the graphics card goes ?
  20. Look at the sound chart, the numbers for 4800 and 4870 are about the same
  21. Silly question. 64 bit is processor dependent right, are the core 2 duos 64 bit ?
  22. Any recommendations on a PS capable of lasting to a Nehalem upgrade and whatever sli/crossfire I decide on. It means the world for stability so its not worth cheapskating on a ps.
  23. The cheapest 'extreme' is 5 times as much as the deal I can get on the e8400. So I think my money is better off in the bank until Nehalem becomes price viable. The core 2 quads are all rather low on mhz. The highest I can find locally doesn't even hit 3 ghz, and with quad core support not that prevalent I think the right move is to hold out. In this view I think it's worth getting a board I'm not going to be using for more than a year or two. The only gripe I have with the wonderfully cheap yet extremely effective crossfire 4850 is the noise and heat. I would love to see a version with proper cooling. The 4870 should be out in a matter of days, maybe I should see what they sell it for before ordering anything. I would like to have more than 512mb of video ram too.
  24. This thread made my heart skip a beat, bastards. Then I realised it wasn't Total War, nothing to see here, move along.
