RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - 'NON-FAKE-NEWS EDITION'
Gorgon replied to Rosbjerg's topic in Computer and Console
I didn't even know there wasa new Metro game. https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/metro-exodus-news-roundup/ -
Well thank god for the EU, never gonna happen to us.
-
Origin access is actually pretty tempting now because of Titanfall and one or two others. I know, heresy.
-
Don't they make those dimensions for like shop assistants and such. https://www.geek.com/news/eizos-27-inch-3k-display-is-perfectly-square-1610009/ The 4k ones seem to be missing or hard to find though. Probably too expensive a production line for a small market.
-
It's not a thing. Nobody cares.
-
Well, what about texture scaling. You could have more texture swaps as you zoom in and out and make the transition smoother. You could have more actors in a larger map and so on. Resolution gives you the best picture quality, yes. It's not everything though.
-
Imagine the settings and post processing gain you could get by not throwing all that extra power after resolution though. I mean in gaming.

Well not masses, just at the wrong time. Like those horrible unskippable dream sequences with the kid. Not that there is a right time for those. -
Belgium, Hawaii to ban, regulate in-game loot boxes as gambling
Gorgon replied to ktchong's topic in Computer and Console
I suppose there is a limit on how many ceral boxes you can eat within a given time period. I suspect Disney leaned on EA because they are very protective of their brand and that persistent revenue is still very much a part of their formula wherever the can get away with it. Makes me worry about Farcry 5. -

What you seem to be missing is that progression based microtransactions are ruining the game experience because everything has to be built around the money grab. You really have to try one such game to understand it, to see how invasive and annoying it is. Maybe it shouldn't be legislated, I dunno, I guess I just don't care at all about EA's pain. Let me ask you a question. Would you want to play a multiplayer game if the deciding factor was not whether you were good or not but which person has paid the most into microtransactions. That is quite literally where this is heading. -

Just replayed ME3. Well, I stopped after the Cerberus base because it gets boring after that. They should have taken a page from ME2 where there was this kind of 'Dirty Dozen' vibe going on, you were building a team and it was all culminating in final mission impossible thing you were going to do. Instead they slow your movement speed down and drown you in exposition. It gets self indulgent and masturbatory, and really it's all just hiding 3 different endings. Where is the bossfight. The bossfight in ME2 was good. Good enough anyway. Don't take away player agency and assume we are going to care about the story for an extended non skippable segment. That's assuming too much. Shame about Andromeda. -

Well, nothing much is going to come of it. Who wants to bet the lootboxes are coming back to battlefront with some small band aid. -

So far just talk and fallout from Battlefront 3. EA's greed bit them in the ass. They don't know how to say no to more money even if it damages their IP. This is good news for consumers though. None of the gambling but not gambling ****ery benefits us. As far as legislators over reaching, go cry me a river. -
Yeah, it wasn't my thing either. Too much nerd humor and overall generic despite the flashy cartoon graphics. Only fun with friends really, but I didn't bother. And Lol at it being underrated here. It was hyped as much as any game when it was released, 8 years ago. The in game design is pretty awesome, it gets very MMOish and boring with the narrow focus on multiplayer coop though. Miles better design wise than overwatch for instance, which has a similar style. It has midget berserkers who turn into giant berserkers after you shoot their heads off. I mean think about that. It's mostly good in places though, not throughout. Like in the Torque campaign of carnage where the whole thing is being narrated like a WWF vendetta. For lack of a better word the design, the VO, it's 'air guitar awesome'

What is your game of the year for 2017?
Gorgon replied to SonicMage117's topic in Computer and Console
If everybody is saying Elex maybe I should give it a try. I dunno, undecided on goty -
Ohh, I see what you mean. No, they can't just remove a game you own because they made an enhanced edition.

Store page still exists: http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/72850/ Workshop still exists. Even if Skyrim's store page were removed from Steam, you'd still have Skyrim in your games. Did you look for "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim?" rather than just "Skyrim?" I just searched for Skyrim and this is what I got: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=skyrim Weird. I guess I have to search for it directly from my library. Oh well, thanks a bunch. I go put that thing to the downloads! EDIT: weird, it does not show up in the search at all for me. I even searched for the individual dlc's but the search came up with no results. You should get a mod organizer for skyrim. The STEAM workshop is not equipped to handle installing 100 mods. The mods themselves you get here : https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/?

Mass Effect Andromeda. It's ,well, not very good. The face animations are the least of its problems. I don't understand how anyone could sign off on the terrible design of the alien races. There is this new snake-like race that's like a discount version of the fish-like race from the old games. (drell) Nevermind, there is too much wrong for me to bother writing a list. Still, it's a fun shooter. Just shows how much you can put up with if you have solid base mechanics.

The model is free to play though, this is warframe with stormtroopers and they want a hefty purchase price up front as well. Add to that a multiplayer advantage, well that last bit is complete heresy. -
I am such a stoner. I took the other gate to work. It's parked there.

Well my problem isn't specific, I don't even play the game and have no intention of it and I'm still mad. I don't like getting screwed, and this general development is all about teaching players to accept getting screwed, softly at first to cause minimum outcry and then with ever rising intensity. -

I guess the point is that rewards should't be determined by the whatever the maximum number of times they can get paid along the way is. -

Yeah, but the whole experience is designed around getting people to spend. You want people to cave in and do just that, not sludge through the grind. That's going to hurt the game experience and still be worth it for a behemoth title like Battlefront. Same deal with Shadow of Mordor. Games are designed that way from the ground up including being able to buy a competitive advantage in multiplayer.
