The Quietest News Story this week
Good news without puppies or a handicapped child just doesn't lead.

Hottest place on Earth
I'm insulated, like a seal, by virtue of my spare tire around the waist, and I also have a high tolerance for cold. Heat is definitely worse, it affects your ability to think straight.

The Battlestar Galactica Thread
The longer double episodes have all been miles better than the normal ones, can't say I would mind.

Hottest place on Earth
It's because you don't have any feeling for what the increments feel like. Minus degrees : bloody cold. 0-10 cold 11-14 slightly chilly. 15-19 normal to hot. 20-25 hot to very hot. 30+ uncomfortably hot, or just right for lounging all day on the beach.

The Battlestar Galactica Thread
I think they cut a whole lot out, the scene where they convince the firing squad to stand down was rather pivotal, you can't just leap over it and not lose some credibility in the coherence of the plot. Also remember Adama saying 'I thought you were dead' to Tigh, and he said 'for a while I was'. So Saul probably was killed and downloaded, but they cut that as well.

Hottest place on Earth
It's raining instead of snowing. That don't happen too often in February.

The Battlestar Galactica Thread
How did Adama and the rescue party get the firing squad to surrender without a single shot, that seemed rather unlikely given that they were all completely committed by their own actions.

Hottest place on Earth
It's supposed to be the coldest month in Denmark, and it's barely chilly.

Yes but without it there would have been no Chuck Norris shot.

I think Starbuck is some kind of avatar for one of the gods. Anyway good episode, less soul searching more action. Just what the doctor ordered.

LOST
I generally hate having to watch 30-45 minute shows where you know if anything interesting is going to happen it's going to be a cliffhanger at the end. Give me an English detective series instead, one where the actors have time to breathe and the plot time to build.

Governor Rod Blagojevich is now Ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich.
It's because of what it takes to get into office, they are sort of conditioned to grant special favors from the beginning. As long as political contributions are out in the open they are part of the democratic process, but there's always those kinds of favors that won't bear public scrutiny. I don't see a way out of it.

Throw him in a hole somewhere and toss the key. I believe the French have a term for it, Oubliette.

Movies you have seen recently
That's the hat he decided to wear, and the job he was appointed to do. Of course if he had any backbone he would have handed in his resignation, too accustomed to doing as he's told from his army life I expect.

The World Economy
Japan is undergoing a serious recession as well, its banks particularly have been hit hard by the credit crisis, and because the banking sector is so huge they have felt it before most countries. Interesting to see we aren't on the list at all, were in the black. (Denmark that is)

What you did today
They slashed my hours by half, going to have to look elsewhere now. The next couple of years are going to suck for a lot of people.

The World Economy
Dumping kills local producers thus eliminating competition, it makes perfect business sense if you have our level of capacity, but it's not a very friendly kind of globalism. We found out that wheat actually burns pretty well, and you can use butter for other things than eating. We can't just give it away, that would destabilize prices too much. To a certain extent however, this is a discussion from the last decades. Farm subsidies are no longer as prevalent, and we aren't hoarding mountains of produce to dominate prices like, say the diamond industry.

What you did today
Anything mammal can get cancer, but most mammals don't live long enough for it to be an issue. The wolf population around Chernobyl has thrived because they don't live long enough for the toxins in the environment to kill them, and they have a pretty much undisturbed habitat all to themselves.

anybody have any good trailers for upcoming movies

The World Economy
The EU is a rich kid's club mainly concerned with mutual economic benefit, it doesn't have any kind of 'national' cohesion. Every time they try to establish a joint foreign policy it fails. The EU Parliament has gone from strength to strength at the expense of the chairman, which is comforting if you care about democracy, but it also means the EU will be about as likely to take a firm stance on anything as the UN. Turkey won't get in, why, because if it did they would dominate the Parliament through proportional representation and we don't trust them. The talks are designed to stall Turkey until they are ready to accept something less than a full membership.

The Battlestar Galactica Thread
I really hope they don't spend too much time plugging old holes in the plot. We don't care anymore.

Infants stabbed
Meet Peter Lundin, he killed a bunch of people in the US, then we lobbied to get him back in a Danish prison only to have him do it all over again. .
