Severance/Blade of Darkness
Maybe it's what it sounds like, a version of C++ runtime libraries which isn't backwards compatible anymore. Or any of a millon other things.

French forumites
Isn't Volourn Canadian. Teh frenchies actually use their own language academically sometimes to the exclusion of English, not something you could say about Denmark, which makes your job a bit harder. I suggest you track down a live English speaking specimen and interrogate it.

What did you eat today?
A lump of bread. It was tasty.

LOST season six
I think that should be 'phase sideways', Flash 'something' involves someone's memory, whereas what we are seeing is simply a segment of space time. I don't hold out much hope for clarification, without the unknown the show would lose all its narrative drive, they are going to

Installing Baldur's Gate II on Vista
Disable user accounts or whatever it's called. It's where you manage logons in the control panel, and they can be turned off. Supposedly that solves certain installation problems.

The funny things thread
I though the joke was the commercial trying to recover Toyota's safety record.

You can go a long way on just projecting confidence and having no shame whatsoever.

Metro 2033
I'm currently playing Call of Pripyat. No crashes yet. Not a single one. Clear Sky crashed on average once every 45 mins. The level design is not quite as good as earlier.

Movies you have seen recently
Product placement scenes are always awkward, remember when they used cola bottles for a blood transfusions in Pearl Harbor. Blade 2, or was it 3 when the sexy young vampire hunter had to load up her Ipod to listen to while out smiting the undead - after all it's not like being able to hear while fighting for your life would be in any way useful. Why not just stop the movie and show an actual commercial, the pretense that the product actually matters is just stupid.

The funny things thread
Is it just me or did that look staged. I mean it's just a girl in a dress, looking decidedly un-ghost like. what's scary about that.

Also, was that an Ipod Denzel went to have recharged. If It was that is just.... embarrassing for both apple and the movie.

Movies you have seen recently
It was pretty good though untill it got obvious where it was heading. Why was Gary Oldman so disappointed though, it would hardly be impossible for a seeing man to crack the brail alphabet with a little patience.

No sex please, they're British. More to the point, it's Maggie we are talking about.

Deus Ex 3
The new devs even said they were aware that DX2 was not what the fans had expected and that they would do things differently. Read it here some time ago.

Deus Ex 3
Maybe they will get it right this time.

In a bizarre switch everyone EXCEPT the government goes mad
Maybe I gave the impression that I was hijacking his train of thought, I wasn't and he isn't here, so I thought I would share while we wait to be showered with his experience of the human condition.

In a bizarre switch everyone EXCEPT the government goes mad
Well it's pretty well documented, for instance in the case of natural disasters, that our layer of civilisation peals off very quickly when the control mechanisms are disabled, and when those control mechanisms are part of the problem ; Rwanda, Auswitch, Pol pot, Stalin. Etc. etc. I suppose the point is that people can become divorced from their sense of belonging or lose their moral compass as a result of negative influence or experience. 'Good' and 'evil' are ideals, and they are nice to have, but acting either way is still reward seeking behavior. We are driven by much baser principles than we care to admit.

Doing a PhD
A PHD is creating something new, adding to the body of knowledge in your field, so it's nolonger enough to cross all the 't's and dot all the 'i's you need to create a good paper. You have to look for virgin ground which, depending on your field, could be quite hard.

In a bizarre switch everyone EXCEPT the government goes mad
I set out to prove that you were probably being alarmist, I mean what do singular criminal acts mean to the big picture, the statistics. Not a thing. However. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11...Africa-U-S.html Now granted, this is the daily mail, a tabloid not to be taken too seriously, but I assume they got their figures from somewhere. Also it doesn't specify how old the data is. Many similar search results seem to build on figures from 2001, and how relevant is that.

In a bizarre switch everyone EXCEPT the government goes mad
I don't know. I think 11 years old is a little early to give up on kids. They obviously need to be watched closely for the forseeable future, but institutionalisation at that age... It won't solve a thing, and will cost an arm and a leg.

Dragon Age Discussion
My impressions as well. Weak setting, didn't care if everyone in fereldon lived or died. Did they come up with this themselves or is it from some book or old game. Either way it was holding the game back.

What you did today
Don't say blind rage never accomplished anything. I discovered today that a set of very expensive Creative headphones I bought a week ago had developed a rattling noise whenever it hit the low base sounds. As I sat there maddened by the sound and unable to find the bill of sale, I took them off my head and smashed them repeatedly and violently on the floor like a displaying gorilla. The rattle is gone. Some small bit of metal fell out, appears to be part of the support mechanism. I was able to keep the right speaker from popping out of it's plastic holder by bending a piece of metal. I can't adjust the headset anymore, but ortunately I seemed to have locked them into a comfortable position.
