  1. There is nothing that can be done. UN resolutions, sanctions, for reasons already stated they won't work.
  2. I'm kinda used to skills not making a lot of sense in Fallout so I don't mind so much. As a matter of fact changes would be harder for someone with knowledge of all the FO games to deal with. Just be sure it's all there in the descriptions when you level up. From a design perspective though I much prefer clarity. There are too many RPG games (I'm looking at you Dragon Age) where you only know the system and what tree to advance on your second or third game.
  3. Well, at least were done with it. I too get the impression that the show 'cheated'. They created way too much baggage along the way to ever address properly.
  4. I hope there is at least one armour set that isn't ugly. Most of what I have seen is, it was pretty dire in FO as well. Bethesda's fault really, their art assets. Maybe I'm too picky I dunno, but I was trekking around in raider badlands gear towards the end of the game because almost everything else was aesthetically unpleasant. Take the trench coats for instance, if you can't make one that flaps around the legs because the engine can't to it don't bother at all. They look like they were carved out of wood.
  5. The little green arrows point the wrong way in the DC metro, you can't just pick a direction either because of the garbage piles fencing you in. That just leaves wandering about aimlessly hoping to stumble on the mission. Me not like.
  6. Ohh and teaching kids critical tools rather than teaching them to regurgitate from a textbook for the purpose of an exam goes without saying.
  7. That's not really disputed, at least not by me. The Soviets trained and funded hundreds if not thousands of promising young revolutionaries in infiltration and political agitation. They had some major successes too, notably China. The question is what to do in the face of this of agitation which depends on a helping hand from the established order in the form of draconian counter insurgency measures. In nine times out of ten the answer is simply to do nothing. By the way all of the Comintern documents were released to the public followinhg te collapse of Communism, although I haven't read them (they are in Russian) they are frequently referred to as showing indirectly the massive Soviet disappointment in the American Communist movement. In Japan several prominent Communists even did an about face and converted to the hyper nationalism of the time. Effectively killing Communism in Japan until it was resurrected by MacArthur.
  8. From your edit : 'in the opinion of some'. That's rather flimsy isn't it. In the opinion of some we have been secretly invaded by martians.
  9. Alright, I suppose you can have that one. The Soviets did what every other major power does, spy on everyone else, and they were good at it. From spy network to America Communist revolution on the other hand, a rather immense gap.

  11. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venona_papers Well. Is there supposed to be a discrepancy between what I said and your link ?. Where are the hundreds of infiltrators in government from McCarthy's famous list. What kind of double agent has a Communist party membership card. You don't find moles by grandstanding and serving your own ambitions in senatorial hearings. It's simply NOT a job for a politician. Double agens communicate with Moscow, not with American Communists. A good ol' fashioned witch hunt on the other hand.
  12. I just hope they really learned the lesson of the DC metro. Backtracking again and again because the pipboy map is crap is just not very fun. If they keep it, definately lose the mazes.
  13. Communists back then typically operated by infiltrating trade unions and working from the inside to instigate strikes. once the Communist party of the US were outlawed their operations became entirely underground. One of the most successful spies in ww2 was a Comintern double agent in Japan, Victor Sorge. The actual degree of infiltration of the government was negliable though. If I recall McCarthy thundered forth with a list of hundreds of known Communist infiltrators in government, the list was utter nonsense, and the actual threat did not warrent the level of persecution which followed. Especially not if the US wanted to continue to call itself a free and open society. The real irony of course is that Communism never really took root, not because of repression, but because Americans weren't buying it.

  15. Sci Fi isn't generally positive, utopia is a pretty boring story, and I'm sure ol' Ronny could have gotten an amendment through eliminating term limits.
  16. I just dont get that immersed in a game I guess. To me, having a mechanic that offers no benefit (only penalties) and boils down to eat X every Y or you will die just becomes a busywork chore and detracts from the experience. I get that its more "realistic" but meh, I like my games to be fun, not work. Says the 120 level necromancer.
  17. Further, if generational rifts that lead to radical changes are no longer common because the world is controlled by a cadre of immortals it would slow down or maybe even reverse progress in the organization of human society. If Brezhnev and Reagan had never left office, how long would the cold war have remained cold. 30 years, 100 ?.
  18. Up to now the theoretical length of a human life is about 120-150 which is the extreme length of non renewable cells like those in the major organs. If we have cell regrowth for all cell types things solar radiation and exposure to oxygen, which starts to kill us literally from the moment we are born, would cease to be an issue. Those who could afford life long gene therapy to replace damaged cells could be immortal. I see promise for the second coming of LoF's Communist world revolution if money was the difference between life and death for everyone on the planet.
  19. Remember Avatar, that really bad really pretty movie. In it genetic engineering was possible, for the very wealthy, who lived longer much healthier lives. Doesn't sound implausible at all.
  20. It's disqualified for not playing fair, well in the case of the PC version anyway. No sane person would/should accept what the DRM is demanding.
  21. I wonder if we are going to see a return of Kevin Michael Richardson (the voice of Sarevok)
  22. Make it look like one of his girlfriends did it. Besides, the military complex is already in control. Can't hurt to try a toss of the dice.
  23. I wonder if much thought has been put into assassinating Kim Jong Il. Might be worthwhile.
  24. I head a North Korean expat commentator mention that in the calculation of the KPA and Kim Jong Il the south would not respond militarily as the population of South Korea would under no circumstances allow things to escalate to a war. It's simply a hissy fit directed at the new political line toward the North, a completely pointless act.
  25. Well they cleared the riot zone, which may actually have been a boon to the red shirts as they were succeeding in nothing but turning people against them.
