  1. Being even more pedantic I have to mention part of the magazine IS clearly behind the trigger group, therefore its a bullpup. And the FN-FAL beats everything, its THE battle rifle. Especially a build with a paratrooper folder, battle optics and barrel shortened to 18'' or 20''. Just like this: If was dropped on a foreign planet and I could choose any rifle I want to defend myself from angry xenomorphs, but just one, I'd choose a scoped FAL.
  2. And the other three quarters of men are too ashamed to admit it. Extremely disturbing statistic.
  3. Nice! Though I still prefer the OST of UT99 over UT2k4 and UT3's. Is it nostalgia? I don't know, I just love it. I've slaughtered like hundreds of thousand of enemies to this track in DM-Pressure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9-ma9C74u4
  4. Well, the M1 .30 carbine was actually issued to give the auxiliary soldiers (mortar crews, paratroopers etc.) compact weapons which were more useful and had more range and power than the 1911 pistol. Even though it was more of an early PDW (personal defence weapon) its ultra compact size made the M1 carbine so popular that even front line soldiers used it. MP40 and the Thompson were submachine guns (along with the Russian PPSH and the US greese gun), compact long guns chambered in pistol cartridges for close quarter combat not exceeding 100yds. Subgun rounds: 45ACP, 40S&W, 9x19MM, 7.62x25 TT Now the STG44 was a new kind of weapon, a Sturmgewehr, an assault rifle. It did not use pistol cartridges nor a weak cartridge like the M1 carbine, it fired a special designed downsized rifle round designed for medium ranges and full auto firing. More power and accuracy than a submachine gun, less power and range than a full rifle round. Assault rifle rounds: .223 NATO, 5.54x39, 7.62x39, 7.92x33 Only approx. a decade ago a new type of weapon was born - the PDW, the personal defence weapon. It will eventually replace the submachine gun as it has more range, more effectiveness and far more armor penetration capabilities with less recoil. They fire downsized intermediate rounds, or assault rifle rounds which are still more powerful than pistol cartridges. I remember the statement that the 4.6x30 can penetrate a kevlar helmet at up to 400yds. PDW Rounds: 4.6x30, 5.7x28 I hope that helps to clear up the confusion! I guess pretty much the whole gun felt wrong to them, it was the first of a new species. Surely, you must be thinking of the FG42? That rifle did have big recoil issues from what I've learned. Oh man, the FG42, my old love. One of the finest rifles ever made (as long you stay away from the full auto happy switch.) Decades ahead of its time. Bullpup design, 20 round mag, pistol grip, foldable iron sights, spring buffered stock, flash hider integrated bipod with a 4x scope. I would sell everything I have for an original in mint condition.
  5. Huh? The STG44 fired the 7.92mm kurz, that was a downsized version of the general issued and very powerful 8mm Mauser, which means less powder, lighter bullet and smaller case. The K98 shot the 7.92x57 (196 grain at about 800 m/s) and the STG44 the 7.92x33. (125 grain @ 685 m/s). The 7.92x33 was an intermediate round, the STG44 was very heavy and had a low rate of fire (compared to most modern machine guns) which made it extremely controllable. Every German soldier wanted one.
  6. Yeah, those .22lr replicas are way cool. GSG (German Sports Guns) also makes a MP44 .22lr replica. You know, the first true assault rifle the Germans designed way back in 1944. Although I'm still waiting for an H&K MP7 in .22lr or .17HMR.
  7. Shot my 70 lbs bow at a 3D-animal course in the forest. Man, do I suck at archery, today I realized that I'm not an archer and that I'll never be one. When shooting a bow I'm always doing something wrong, either my leg stance is wrong or I'm gripping the bow too tightly, sloppy release, canting the bow too much..... its just ultra frustrating and it does feel..''wrong''. Once in a while when all the stars align I make a good shot, but those are rare. Also, as a rifleman the lack of sights always confuses the hell out of me for a second when I draw the bow, I instinctively want to aim, with sights. My instinctive rifle shooting techniques suddenly become very contra productive and they are very hard or almost impossible to turn off. Give me a sword, halberd, crossbow, shotgun or a rifle. But keep your bows.
  8. Oh. I just realized those helmets with strange faces appeared when codpieces were very popular. Yeah.....I will not further question the fashion and armor design choices from that period.
  9. Just stumbled across this awesome suit of armor. Totally had to post it. Ca. 1620 Whats up with those funny faces? Seems like this was some kind of trend or running gag that started in the late 15th century. So C3PO wasn't an android, it was in fact a time traveling knight from the 16th century. Explains a lot.
  10. This looks like Lego Technic. Now I wish LEGO was made of aluminum instead of plastic. That would be really cool.
  11. He looks like a constipated ogre. Just look at him. ME NO..HHHNNNGH...POOP..! RAARARGH ME CRUSH LITTLE PEOPLE!
  12. Bought a new monoblock scope mount for my precision rifle, with a 20 MOA angle for looooong ranges. With 280 bucks sadly very expensive, but a rock solid mount is a must if you want accuracy.
  13. The most effective and fastest way to lower your blood pressure permanently is regular rigorous cardio and weight lifting because the human body was designed for that kind of activities. Physical inactivity will sooner or later result in system damage, comparable to cars that never get driven much.
  14. That make me laugh. "He had 'stache hairs like daggers...." I once cut my palm with my own stubble. True story. Also sorry to hear about your cat, I feel with you, I once had a baby bunny euthanized so I know how awful that experience is.
  15. Shaved off my mustache, those damn hairs were constantly stabbing my upper lip and I could still taste the meal I ate two hours ago. Not sure though if I should get rid of my chin beard too, those hair are much less....rebellious.
  16. Sold a rifle for 550 bucks, and now I'm thinking about buying a chainmail Hauberk because....I don't know, do I need a reason? The problem is I don't want any of that cheap deco stuff, the real battle ready 13 kilogram heavy Hauberks with flat riveted rings start at 280, not counting the other expenses like a gambeson costing 100 and the belt for 30-50.
  17. Hobby. Some people put every spare cent they have into their machines instead of making boring holidays or playing golf. The more successful teams have sponsors of course, but they still have to pay most of the stuff out of their own pocket. Its not Formula 1. (Thank god its not) So it always saddens me greatly whenever one of those engines or crankshafts blow up, which can happen when you have 10000 horsepower at 8000 rpms with 11000 NM working there. And lets not forget turbos working in the 8-bar area. Huh? Why not? Tractor pulling is REALLY big in Europe, hell, its pretty much the national sport of the Neatherlands. They have three-day long Tractor Pulling events there, even indoor events as seen here: (Turn your speakers up!)
  18. Watched the Europeans final Tractor pulling Event, it was beyond awesome. There was one tractor called ''Lambada'' that had 4 supercharged V8 Hemis running on nitro with a total of 10.000 horsepower. When he started pulling it was not only DEAFENINGLY loud you also felt the engines in your guts, like standing next to a huge firing machine gun. IMO thats something you absolutely need to experience at least once in your life. I posted photos in the users photo thread.
  19. Photos from the tractor pulling event: The 10k horsepower tractor ''Lambada''. Aircraft engine with a whooping 55.000 cubic centimeters of capacity. This one used three Russian helicopter engines developing a total of around 8000 horsepower. It ran with jet fuel. Its turbines had to be revved up and started with an old Audi car diesel engine which was dragged around on a small carriage. The engines air intake was 40 cubic meters per second. Diesel power. Extremely loud nitro V8's! Closeup: Women winners ceremony. Yes, there where female drivers and they rocked just as hard as the men. After each pull compactors and steam rollers were used to repair the damaged dirt strip for the next tractor.
