I guess its a matter of opinion. I think those who are anti-Expanded Universe are those who generally don't enjoy reading in general. As a general rule I think its safe to say that the New Jedi Order was probably the most well thought out bit of StarWars yet, mainly because so many peopel were involved in the planning and the events were so huge. I wouldn't call it lazy anymore than I'd call those who aren't big on reading star wars novels as opposed to watching the movies as lazy.

So does KOTOR 2 suck or not?
ryan12177 replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I get it just fine, but KOTOR was a much better game, doen by obviously more detail oriented designers. Does KOTOR2 have improvements? Sure, I love the improvements to pazaak, the robes, the ability to upgrade and modify weapons etc and the prestige class.. but the problem is that the buck stops there. On the down side ~ Swoop racing takes a step back in 2. ~ The game is the easiest I've ever played, and I thought 1 was slightly too easy. ~ The inability of the devs to create a sensible dialogue tree so that you aren't having the same dialogue options pop up all game. The way your convo's progressed (perfect example being Jolee) was perfect and the new game has you asking the saem questions all game. ~ Lack of inteligence of enemies. Doesn't necesarily go under game difficulty because the fact that you're fighting Sith (Has anyone noticed that you see less Sith in the Sith Lords game than 1?) and NONE of them ever try to use a force power on you is a problem. ~ Random loot generator.. god, that was a bad idea. ~ Planet size.. Besides Nar Shadda, every planet is a lot smaller than the planets in the first game. Why even re-visit Korriban and Dantooine if we were going to get half-planets and stuff like a crystal cave appearing where there wasn't one before? ~ The game end.. I don't even think that one has to be explained. Malachor isn't exactly storming the Starforge ~ Broken promises.. the Devs sad a lot of things that just never came to be or weren't quite what they said.. they promised, bigger planets, they promised that certain characters would choose to leave you or not joined based on your influence/allignment (half truth at best), they said a lot of stuff that just wasn't to be. So, I don't think its a matter of people never seeing anything as being as good as the first, its a matter of the developers of 2 being rushed and not produving as nearly flawless of a product as the first and actually ruining a lot of the aspects that made the first game what it was (story, dialogue, replayability) -
Not to toss spoilers, but you do meet a female Mandalorian during the course of the game, I thought

I'd say that if you played the last game or even if you didn't that you should start on the hardest level. Mainly because the last game was too easy and this one is about half as hard.

Handmaiden Sisters Sparring In Telos Base
ryan12177 replied to QQQ's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Easiest way to defeat all 5 sisters is to have Bao-Dur make you about 5 or so adhesive grenades, use 2-3 melee shields and if light side use force push thread, and if darkside use horror.. Step 1. Equip melee shield.. Step 2. run past the 3 sisters in front of you and turn and toss an adhesive in the middl eof th epack, preferably before they get close to you so you won't stick yourself. Step 3. Bombs away, and feel free to use stimulants on yourself while the sisters are stuck. Step 4. when out of bombs just push the stronger sisters off the mat and hack the weaker ones to death. If dark side hit them with horror and chop them to pieces -
lol, Drakron went through a lot of effort to be dead wrong.

I could be wrong of course.. (covering my bases)

I don't think anyone has noticed this (I just did because its in a comic I don't follow) Recently Darkhorse changed its Star Wars Tales title to be more reader friendly with small self-contained story arcs. Well its had one and possibly two KOTOR tie-ins lately. Issue 23 begins a tale somewhat familiar to those of us who enjoyed the original KOTOR [During the time of the Old Republic, three young Jedi in particular-one bearing the surname Qel Droma-traveled the Sith Homeworld of Korriban intending to finish their Order's "Great Hunt." What they find lurking in their own hearts proves more dangerous than any prey they're after, in this prequel to the popular Knights of the Old Republic video game.] The second tie-in is one I just stumbled upon. In the 21st issue of Tales they began the story of Darca Nyl - a Jedi wandering the galaxy's Outer Rim hunting for revenge and hiding a deadly secret. Normally I'd pay the story no mind and planned on it until I saw the preview cover for issue #23 that is released on March 23rd and concludes the tragic tale of Darca Nyls. then I went.. oh , maybe I have to pick it up because on the cover you see a certain masked Sith who you defeat way too easily in KOTOR2 which gives you a little insight on just why Darca Nyls is so tragic and what became of him. http://images.darkhorse.com/covers/med/10/10155.jpg So yes, I think Darkhorse is actually explaining the origin of Darth Nihilist and none of us have noticed.

Stuck On Nar Shaddaa PLEASE HELP!
ryan12177 replied to xanderstone's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You didn't kill the guy that was supposed to message you, different guy/same race... Usually the glitch comes into play if you use the landspeeder before you face the Slavers who have invaded your ship. But this just sounds liek you haven't gotten enough attention on the planet to move the plot forward yet. ~ Play Pazaak for attention ~ Pay the little fella by the cantina for it ~ Use stealth to sneak around and listen in conversations to learn hwo to dance for Vogga and get his stash ~ Help the refugess with their side quests. Save the daughter, reunite husband and wife, etc. ~ Help the Ithorian get off planet by fixing the pylons for the Twilek.. Its a lot of stuff on this planet that you can do to get noticed by the exchange, -

Special Robes... again.
ryan12177 replied to Jedi Master D Murda's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm calling bull**** on this one. Mainly due to the fact that Nomi's armband is one of the very few things on the game not randomly generated and can only be found on Nar Shadda after you establish trade routes at both Dantooine and Dxun.. -
I'm currently reading Star Wars: Labyrinth of Evil which is the prequel of Episode 3. Basically Episode 3 picks up where this book leaves off with Palpatine being kidnapped... But that is neither here nor there. I was reading a scene where Dooku was training General Grievous who was facing a group of androids trained in the 7 basic jedi dueling styles and the droids start going through Ataro, Shii-Cho, Soresu, Lus-ma and Makashi forms while fighting Grievous under Dooku's teachings. Not really KOTOR related, but it was weird to see the forms used in KOTOR being mentioned in a star wars novel.

I've never seen the Sullustan Merchant with thorium charges and just checked it out and he doesn't have them after you ask him to join the militia. Have you gotten it from him yourself or did some guide give you this info?

Don't listen to what Ten-96 added because low level mines don't get those open. You also have one cylinder like this on Dantooine's landing area. You have to use at least strong mines to get them open if I remember correctly and the contents have never been hurt if I had nothing but deadly mines to use. The first cache you can get open if you save the high end explosive you get in the Korriban library and then use it on that door on Dxun. The items you get from Wynn's room and that cache are roughly equal in value so it doesn't matter which you choose to do.

The light sabers weren't as glitched as much as the people playing were glitched.. why the hell would you fight the light sabers anyway instead of having them chase you and then head back towards Kreia and cut her down with ease? and my answer would be that none were hard, especially once you figure out that Malak has a weakness for those darn sticky grenades. and yes the Sith governor probably wins as the hardest by virtue of the fact that you have no power when you face him.

Malak's Lightsaber & Armor
ryan12177 replied to KotOR_rules2004's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
This was brought up before and the word seems to be that this is one of the things that was in the strat guide but isn't in the x-box version of the game. There were tons of items like that in KOTOR1 and I'd assume it'll be on the PC version. -

Jedi.. Sith.. they are just words. .. The thing I take from the StarWars universe is that just like the religions we have in the real world, the beliefs and what they truly mean ar ein the eye of the beholder. Christianity before 400 AD was vastly different than the set in satone belief system that it is now and thats no different than StarWars at the time of KOTOR and by the time of the Revenge of the Sith... In the days of KOTOR the concept of jedi's not having attachments etc wasn't as set in stone as it was in the days of Yoda. It wasn't common to have up to 3 padawans for any master and Jedi's were often married. One of the things I do like about the KOTOR story is that it explains whyt he Jedi became more strict with their padawans and started to forbid attachment. Off subject, ut my main view is that the fall of the Jedi was actualyl caused by Yoda moreso than anything else.. think abou tit, you had this guy who believed things should be oenm way and the strict jedi belief system and forbiddence of attachments is what truly caused Vader to turn from the Jedi, not any out and otu need to be evil... If the jedi had realized Yoda was an idiot they'd have avoided their own deaths. Oh, and I can't believe you mentioned the GodFather book.. one of the greatest movies of all time.. but one of the absolute worst books ever. You had dazzling sub-plots of a man with a foot long ****, his girlfriend who had to have an operation to fix her **** that was the size of a **** and other such events.. thank god the movie left out Puzo's dumber ideas... but on that note the new Godfather niovel is a lot better than the original, pick it up. -

A hack EU story? Technically you could say that the KOTOR universe is based on that hack story. ... -
Yes, because it took Luke Skywalker decades before he was wielding a lightsaber and facing down the Empire and his father.

Quick question. There seems to be some weird reason that the inspector needs those sensors. Has anyone played it out a different way and found out what the deal with that was?
