Those 8bitdo controllers rock. I have one myself.

Everything here, but you forgot Super Castlevania 4. Tsk, tsk, Tsk.

Thrust of Tattered Veils was a spell with a 1 second interrupt iirc. With the overhaul to interrupt system it will step up in usefulness IMHO. I'm crossing my fingers for an Arcane Lore skill that will tell you what spell is being cast, and that would further Thrust's viability. It could go from middling to rocking really quickly with the right systems changes.

Serious Fighters vs Anime/Waifu Fighters
Ganrich replied to SonicMage117's topic in Computer and Console
Tekken 7 is all I need. I always preferred SNK to Capcom games. Although SF 3rd Strike was great. I still loved me some Mark of the Wolves though. Soul Caliber is fun every once in a while I've grown out of MK. It is too clunky feeling with a dedicated block button vs the back button. However, I did like Injustice. DOA is meh with a side of cleavage. All the other games like Guilty Gear, Blaze Blue, etc... Never really grabbed me. They arent bad though.- 16 replies

Yeah, I have the money, and I have been dragging my feet at filing my taxes and have another $2k coming back on top of what I have. I always drag my feet on new CPUs to increase the overclocking "silicon lottery" chances. I am still undecided in between the 1700x or just going ham and getting an 1800x because I can. I also am wanting to move to a 3440x1440p monitor, but I'm waiting on Vega before I bother. I've also heard rumors of LG having a 3440x1440p IPS running at 144hz with Freesync coming out this year. I kind of want to see if that is a bunch of Mumbo jumbo or if I can keep my 144hz goodness, move to 3440x1440p, and gain freesync. I just realized that I'm waiting for a good many stars to align lol.

I still say with new mobo Bios, newer Mobos in general, and the Windows scheduling update (whenever that comes) will bring Ryzen much more into line with Intel's offerings in performance. Even if it is still somewhat behind Intel the extra cores and price point will make it a no brainer for anyone doing anything more than just gaming with their PC. Even still those extra cores might come in handy with Vulkan/DX12 titles at some point and give a little more cushion in future proofing. It's sad because I have the money right now, but can't justify it until the bios/scheduler issues are cleaned up. I haven't even prices those high speed ram sticks. I am going to do that right now. Mostly because I'm bored.

Ran across this vid on AMD's Reddit page. It is interesting, and adds to what Zorapter was saying about Ryzen and base ram speeds. I'm dragging my feet for bios and windows updates. All I really need to update soon is my GPU (waiting on Vega). Everything else is fine for a good while longer.

Yeah, I check in on games I've backed now that the Presidential race is over myself. Shenmue 3, SC, Battletech, Camelot Unchained, and of course Deadfire. Pretty much stay on rotation. I just downloaded the Alpha of Camelot Unchained, and I am excited for them to have the servers up next time I am off work. The systems ideas seem incredibly solid, but I worry about how they are wanting to do their combat. We will see. I'm cautiously optimistic.

A very smart move here from Cloud Imperium Games with Star Citizen. https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/comment/7581676/#Comment_7581676 I'm talking about the first answer in the post about DX11/12 and Vulkan. They are just supporting Vulkan. Basically, Vulkan hits all versions of Windows and Linux vs DX12 being Win10 only. While DX11 is somewhat obsolete for a project like this. That gives them one Graphics API to worry about across all users and platforms. Glad to see these guys making the rational decision.

Yeah, the lack of following the theme of "What does one life matter" is very noticeable. I think that is why I like Rhin so much. Because that theme resonates with her very loudly. I didn't feel it with the other companions, but perhaps that theme is a bit too of an every day occurrence in RPGs to be noticeable. Because in an RPG when your player is involved... you one life seems to matter in every quest. If that makes sense. I don't know, but I do agree with you.

I hate the camera being pulled from my control. I suffer from motion sickness, and although it isn't bad in isometric games it can still be problematic. Torment pulling back to the party every time I clicked To move some where on the map was one such time that it became problematic. I had to take breaks pretty liberally. Doing it just during dialogues to center the camera isn't bad, but leave the zoom up to me please lest I vomit.

Why are bass(fish) and bass(instrument) pronounced differently?
Ganrich replied to kirottu's topic in Way Off-Topic
Awesome thread. I always wondered why "county" and "country" have different pronunciations in the first syllable when the only letter difference is in the second syllable. -
Character sheet page and it's a glowing thing (for lack of a better word) up toward the top left corner.

One could argue that magic being a thing changed some of the necessities of tech advancement in Eora. The perfection of plate wouldn't be as crucial a development if there are a great deal of people in the world who can torch you with fire from their fingers or electrocute you seeing that Plate wouldn't really help against such things. In fact, it would most likely hinder you vs fire and electricity. Just playing devil's advocate.

@marelooke - Ah, thanks for the info. I don't mind pay a sub for a month or two to try the game. If the crafting is indeed good then I won't mind doing it. I usually avoid it in most MMOs because it gets trumped by the gear treadmill in PvE. This makes crafting nearly worthless save for building stuff for alts. However, I don't mind if it is worthwhile.

Eh, maybe the next time there is a sale I will scoop it up and give it a go. I have $40 bucks of steam money, and nothing of interest on the horizon. I like hybrid classes in MMOs, and I mean classes that mix two focuses. Like my DT in AoC was a DPS/Lifesteal character which made him good in PvP and it was fun, but my tanking in PvE was trash as a byproduct. However, if they brought me in as a DPS I could out DPS some of the DPS classes which was hilarious. It was because I used Priest of Mytra Gear in smaller gear slots instead of Heavy armor, but they gave me wisdom to increase my spell damage. I like oddball builds, and typically MMOs are too constraining to allow it.

Oh, and another thing I would like to avoid is the huge amount of AoE. Spell diversity needs to be upped. I get that we need to make Intellect appealing, but so many spells are AoE that it becomes a bit bland. Just look at the Druid, Wizard, and Chanter who almost require Intellect. It's not a hard requirement like D&D, but it's a steep enough incentive that the requirement is there. Anyway, it would make the game more tactical if there were more competitive single target abilities available. It would also up build diversity in and of itself. How many classes get huge benefits from Int? Most of them IMHO. Pally, Wizard, Barb, Cipher, Chanter, Druid, and Priest. Where Fighters, Rangers, Rogues, and Monks can get away without it. Just my 2 cents

I always wanted to give TESO a try. Especially after it went FtP. However, none of the classes look interesting to me. I am so picky about classes in MMOs. It's a curse. I can blame Age of Conan for the Dark Templar and Bear Shaman being so fun to play and interesting thematically. I can say that even if the game was pretty mediocre in the end with a lot of bad design decisions. There class system was great though. It was just everything else wasn't.

Bows were better than guns in the 16th century. Tercio Pike and Shot tactics would beg to differ. Hmm, are we comparing weapons or battlefield tactics? The minimum practice range for longbows was 220 yards. Muskets could barely hit anything at 100 yds. Longbow could penetrate plate armor, so muskets didn't have an advantage there. The English longbow rate of fire was typically six per minute so as not to exhaust the supply. Under optimal conditions, muskets could fire 2-3 rounds in the same time span. The main advantage of muskets was that it didn't need anywhere near the same amount of training. Hence you could train a bunch of peasants to shoot in a few weeks, and group them into large formations. Longbows took years of training. I would add that large battlefield tactics won't do much in a 5-6 man party with skirmishes. However, those ranges you bring up would also be irrelevant. Where fire rate and accuracy would definitely be a consideration still. Some archers were able to fire much faster. Sorry for the robot narrator, but just watch the first minute or two. Even the slower archers can fire a slew of arrows before an Arquebus could be reloaded for a second shot. I believe at the end of the video Lars Anderson fires 11 arrows with a longbow before his first arrow touches ground, but it might be a different video. Either way, during the period of tech that PoE occurs in Bows are most definitely still superior in many ways. Training was the big deciding factor, but later when guns gained accuracy and reload speed bows become completely irrelevant.

I want them to avoid something equivalent to a certain trial where I'm stuck on a balcony and bad things ensue outside my control. This type of railroading should never happen. It would have been better if upon arriving at the trial the building was on fire and you have to enter then decide to save as many as possible or fight big bad guy in a boss battle. Then have that decision have ramifications such as: If you save everyone, but big bad guy gets away unimpeded he is stronger in the end. If you fight big bad guy then many people die, and you create more enemies in the last 1/3rd of the game via assassins or some such. Or something to this effect. Sorry, trying to keep spoilers to a minimum here. During dialogue I would like the party to form up in the formation I have created for them. Not a predetermined layout. That way if combat ensues then I don't have my squishy PC up front and center. Dialogue solutions to avoid these combats are also good when they make sense. A group of friendlies fighting alongside me (not in my party) should be treated as if they are in my party in regards to friendly fire. If a spell is 100% safe to lay on top of your friendlies then it shouldn't effect them. If it is like Fireball and can hit friendlies, but the area on the outside where Intellect increased it is safe, then I should be able to use that spell with proper placement and not hurt them. There are probably more. I also agree with hilfazer on the "Great Unification". Homogenization is a plague on RPGs. As long as the classes are relatively balanced then I am fine. To clarify "relatively balanced" I will say that they are all capable of completing the game on every difficulty. Making every class identical in order to have them equal is appalling. This isn't an MMO, and we don't need every class to have the same kit because it is too powerful vs what other classes have.
