The real influence of populism\nationalism in the EU
majestic replied to BruceVC's topic in Way Off-Topic
Thought that too but after the FPÖ dismantled itself in Austria back in the early 00s they seem to be coming back hard these days. Come to think of it they should actually be a poster-case for what happens when right wing populists are given any sort of responsibility. Scandals, corruption and racking up more combined debt than all the Austrian governments with at least nominal left-wing participation before them could even dream of. In other words, they are... or end up being... politicians, in the end. Who would have thought? Heh. -
I still think of KOTOR 3, and you? : )

Aren't you barking up the wrong tree here? -
That seems like a pretty good theory to me. Indeed, I'm also pretty sure that one of the two won't make it through the season and

What a dangerous throught you have there. People can be happy without worshipping at the altar of economic growth? Surely you jest. You DO jest, right, pinko? Be careful lest McCarthy grabs you.

Why Political Correctness (Cultural Marxism) Must End!
majestic replied to Valsuelm's topic in Way Off-Topic
Well to be honest if there is a crime perpetrated by the mainstream media and the "left" then it is that their wolf-crying makes outlets like Breitbart look like a legit source of a counterpoint to the mainstream opinion, while in reality news there is just as opinionated and spun trash like everywhere else. Milo is like the Kim Karadashian of news - a sure sign that things are terribly wrong these days.- 135 replies

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VIII (May RNG Be With You)
majestic replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
The new gearing process is Biowares way of telling people to "GTFO" and "Transfer to another game" I suppose. Nothing about it looks fun or interesting, rather more like 180 degree the opposite. As for story, lost interest in the Zakuul stuff a long time ago. Only chapter that was any fun so far was the Shroud bonus chapter. Only thing that would vaguely rekindle my interest is if I get to kill Quinn. Then I would finish the expansion on all the alts that started on it just so I could kill him a dozen times. Who cares about romancing Arcann??? People are weird. Give me a romance option for Scorpio instead. Hottest bot in the galaxy Edit to add: Was it my imagination or are they revisiting the idea of M4-78? Random equipment from boxes reminds me of something... can't quite put... ah. Got it. That was what PVP-gearing was like for a month before Bioware changed it to commendations with the very first content patch because players really, really enjoyed not being able to complete their set. -
It's not only the US banking sector - they're like that all over the world. So what would you call the ongoing food gambling by banks if not parasitical? Food prices are going up to profit a few rich arseholes while those who already are beyond poor suffer hunger and the average laborer is facing a net-loss in purchasing parity (due to the same rising prices, obviously). All the while at the same time those producing the food are happily paid barely enough to survive or are heavily subsidised. And that's not even touching corporations laying off workers with no real reason beyond improving their stock values or doing the tax dodging game so states have less tax income and, well, of course, won't fix the loopholes but rather cut social support, in turn - yeah, negatively affecting the poor again. Oh, and nothing is being done about that becaue there are entire nations whose only raison d’être is to support tax dodging. Dividend et impera, as the saying goes. No, wait... The worst part about it all is that the left wing politicians - or those that should be the left at least, are doing nothing because they too profit. So right-wing populists are garnering votes by pretending to support the little man, while unabashed right wing politics have actually gotten us there in the first place. That, and the worker-betrayal of all labour parties among the Western nations.

Obviously, there's no accounting for taste. I thought Season 1 and the first half of Season 2 up until the Trance change were superior to the later seasons in everything but production values, which remained low throughout the show's run anyway and which I personally never take up as a way to judge episode or show quality (polish a turd and all that). The original creative team even managed to make Kevin Sorbo look like an actor for a while, and I'm sure that took some doing. It also helped that I generally enjoy the works of Ashley Miller, Zack Stentz and Robert Hewitt Wolfe. Not saying later Andromeda wasn't fun for a while or that campy shows are bad. I liked Xena and Hercules - there's a reason I watched the first four seasons and while a large portion of that was late puberty-me ogling Lexa Doig clad in leather it wasn't the only reason. I'd just never say the later seasons were any better than the first and a half. It's like watching two different shows with the same cast and the same sets, set in the same universe. I just appreciated the go game scences between Tyr and Dlyan more than I appreciated Dlyan showing the ladies his force lance. I'd be game for Hercules in Space, assuming they can get Sorbo to play Space Herc.

I can't help it, I have a thing for campy stuff... and shows with Kevin Sorbo. Also, as Lexx wrote, Andromeda got significantly better after the first season. So you're saying Andromeda got better after Tribune made Kevin Sorbo executive producer who immediately turned it into Hercules in Space with no creative direction to speak of and a no internal consistency? The end of Season 2 and all of Season 3 were completely episodic and disregarded its own continuity (e.g. Andromeda would go from having a Commonwealth crew to complaining about not having a crew from one episode to the next, serveral times within the season)? With freaking Bob Engels as lead writer? After Keith Hamilton Cobb and Brent Stait left the show? Because Tribune wanted a dumbed down show with more Sorbo and less ensemble? Maybe Season 5 was decent, I don't know, I stopped watching after Season 4 where they turned Hercules Dylan Hunt into a Vedran demi-god or some such just to hammer home the Hercules in Space theme.

If I remember correctly Interplay threatened to delete the entire Fallout section of their boards because it got way out of control after the announcement. For a while it made YOP look like hippie paradise.

I donate to the Red Cross and the local voluntary fire fighters as I really might need an ambulance or a fire put out some day and they're doing a fine job for the community. I also often buy a local newspaper sold (mostly) by the homeless who would otherwise not be able to get a job. Half of the money they earn they can keep, the other half goes into the next issue - it earns them some money and makes them feel useful (not to mention that people who are willing to do that sort of crap job out in all weather just so they can work *something* deserve it).
-
Hey old man, were you still part of the guard when we got to pick a free game as thank you for our service, way, way back?
-
I'd say part of the issue was that the Democrats supplied the Republican candidate this time around. Look at what Trump promised and might try to do: More protection for blue-collar workers, curbing globalism by protectionism, ending free trade where possible, promising to reign in big corporations (sort of, he also promised them tax discounts in exchange for taking away their off-shoring capabilities). You know, the kind of thing one would expect from the Democrats - things that are about as left as they can get in the US. While I do doubt that Trump will actually accomplish much of what he promised because political realities are going to crush him it is telling that the he clearly seemed more believable in championing the plight of the "little" guy than the candidate of the party actually supposed to do that - and why Sanders would have been the better for the Democrats.

Welcome to the Fallout community, providing fan dumb since '97.

...and how much our corporate overlords really let him do. I'm not quite up to date but couldn't dropping out of TPP and NAFTA results in partners and/or corporations filing charges through the investment court system (ICS)? Not to mention aggravating the Chinese who sort of own half of the US already. I also think the tax discount for bringing back tax dodger offshore money isn't going to work like he thinks it might. It didn't in other nations (e.g. Germany).

Let's not pollute the US election thread with EU politics, but for that to be fair we'd first have to dismantle all EU members' ruling bodies. I'd rather see the current system fixed by, well, simply removing the requirement for votes to be unanimous and somehow making sure retards like Oettinger aren't allowed on the Commission. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RrEQ8Ovw-Q Yeah. Thanks for contributing that guy, Germany.

This is why I find the US system a bit odd, but hey, it's their playfield and they live with their choices and how they occur. Never really was interested in the mechanics, but it seems odd to me, that you can have such huge disparities between direct and indirect election method and for me it'd be logical that the indirect should move towards the direct one in terms of representation of results I think that's the entire point of the electoral college system. To prevent population-rich states from dictating federal policy by virtue of having more voters. For better or worse it's working as intended.

Either you know something we don't, or you're confusing the Trump women. Yeah, 'twas a mixup. Shows one shouldn't try to write jokes after an all-nighter.
