Yeah, I caught that after I posted. However the bullet point before the chart is clearly about "murder". I'm going to discard the idea that they confused the two, and assume it was just a crafty maneuver to mislead. How very sly. It certianly looks more impressive than a plot of the murder rate would have, so it is fairly safe to assume it was intentional.

Yeah, the chart looks like it's manipulated... or maybe it's just garbage. Not surprising. From '90 to '91 murder and nonnegligent manslaughter went up from 9.4 to 9.8 (per 100k pops). From 2014 to 2015, it went from 4.4 to 4.9. It seems Trump can't tell the difference between local and global extrema, and Maher doesn't know what he's talking about when he proclaims the change to be an "aberration or blip". Something something inflection points something something slopes I did watch the video. btw. Hilarious how that idiot claims that hysteria "is working". Morgan's guess about 2016 seems to be right on the money judging from the preliminary data release, but it's obviously an argumentum ex culo, with a 50% chance of being right. Sources: https://ucrdatatool.gov/Search/Crime/State/RunCrimeStatebyState.cfm https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2015/crime-in-the-u.s.-2015/tables/table-1 https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2016/preliminary-semiannual-uniform-crime-report-januaryjune-2016/tables/table-3 The chart in the video is violent crime, not murder and nonnegligent manslaughter. The numbers from the table (second link) seem to roughly match up with the chart, as far as they go. Depends on what they were talking about anyway, but yes, neither Maher nor Morgan have any idea what they're talking about with regards to that chart. The hysteria stuff was fun. I laughed. I though that was the point of these shows. Heh.

Age of Decadence, because it's mostly a "love or hate it" deal that is either going to suck you in and make you play it for a while or you'll just drop it like a hot potato. The other two are major timesinks assuming you like sci-fi ship controlling roguelikes and city builders, of course.

Heh. I managed to put several hours into the game when it was just an alpha with only the character generation available to play through. Most of the time I spent doing the different tide text adventures at the very beginning when they became available. The update to Windows 10 stopped me from playing the beta any further, because back then Torment's performance under Windows 10 was abysmal, then decided to wait for the final version instead of risking to burn myself out on the beta. Because that's exactly what happened to be while playing Everspace. ^^

"The highest spike in crime rate since '71" Morgan says. Now I'm a bit myopic but based on the statistics from Maher's chart the spike from '91 was much, much higher than the one from 2015. Probably a manipulated chart though. *shrug* Did you actually watch the full video, or at least the second showing of the chart? All the talking about the crime statistics in the video regarding to 2016 is conjecture. Hence Morgan saying that 2016 is likely to have seen a similar spike. The rest as discussed in this thread is overinterpretation and confirmation bias. Or maybe the use of alternative English. I've suspected for a while now that the English I was taught is not quite the same as the one spoken in the US and read here on this forum.

http://everysecondcounts.eu/ I found Germany's pretty boring to be honest.

Trump really should be a president for life of some banana republic. He might get to be anyway. All he needs to do is start pushing up daisies during the next 8 years and he was president for life. He is kind of old anyway, and lots of presidents died in office. *shrug*

I'm surpised nobody posted the Sunless Skies Kickstarter yet. Sunless Sea used to be quite the rage here. Sort of.

Stop the birds! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-1fIfWtdcQ Have fun trying to figure out what he actually wanted to say.
-
It doesn't have any early bird tiers for people to go nuts over and the first tier that gives a copy of the game is at 35 bucks, they're asking for 900k without having anything to show for it, have a projected release date of 2020 and it really doesn't help that it is based on a (admittedly awesome) 1979 movie. I wish them all the best but I have a bad feeling about this campaign.

Looks like I'll have an Od Nua statue to complement my Darth Malgus "soon" .

Thanks for those alternative facts. Don't lie. Breitbart offers only flat facts, nothing more. Besides, everyone knows aborted fetuses get cooked into vaccinations that contain mercury and cause autism.
-
you didn't watch the video, did you? you can see inauguration crowd from start to finish. and again, nielsen ratings, and transit numbers also reinforced what were evident in the aerial images. gotta work hard to believe those alternative facts. come up with conspiracy theories. choose to believe photos from limited angles. ignore transit and nielsen and hotel and dress shop feedback. is what we were talking 'bout 'bove with people wanting to believe the outliers. either a dozen major media outlets, the dc transit authority and the nielsen folks is all in on the fix, Or... why work so hard? HA! Good Fun! Chemtrails, obviously.

Farewell Barack Obama (If you can't say something nice...)
majestic replied to Guard Dog's topic in Way Off-Topic
I'd argue that it already started with Bill Clinton. Some of the things that came to bite Obama in the arse where initiated by Clinton, but many people sort of overlook it because ol' Bill was popular and the economy ran well during his terms. Well, and cigars. -
Yeah, whenver I read Breitbart I start to get tired of all the whining. Oh, wait, you're not talking about the articles on BB in general. Woops, my bad.

That's quite bizarre. Both Manning and Snowden leaked damning top secret material to the public - much about topics we quite frankly all knew or suspected were happening but would otherwise never have been publicly acknowledged. Sure, Manning could and possibly should have served the sentence in psychiatric care instead of prison but that's pretty much it (not taking Snowden's flight into account, obviously). In essence, you're probably just biased because Manning is going to go through gender reassignment or because you actually believed the hyped up bull**** about how Snowden's information endangered western allies and spies. Or both, perhaps. Not that you're alone in being of bizarre opinions here. I mean, obviously it was a-ok to leak Hitlery's e-mails after the DNC hack because we don't like the DNC, Obola or the establishment but if said establishment is torturing Iraqi civilians or spying on their own people then boo boo hell, time for some carnage for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Finished the second season of The Man in the High Castle. Rufus Sewell and Joel de la Fuente continued to nail their role. Rufus Sewell is a tad distracting though. Does anyone else think he looks a bit like JE?

It isn't meaningless though, is it? Otherwise we wouldn't have several degrees of murder and manslaughter that all have one thing in common: Someone ended up dead, but the punishment is based upon intention/motive and culpability. No, degrees of murder are not differentiated by motive but by aggravating factors and the details of the crime. My wife dies under suspicious circumstances. I collect a $1M insurance payout. That is a potential motive IF there is evidence I committed the crime. If I have an alibi and no evidence links me to the crime it is STILL a motive but it can't be used against me alone. If it's proven I hired a hitman to take her out that is 1st degree murder. Not because I had a motive but because i had malice aforethought and planed the crime in advance. Once it's established I DID do it the deed motive is irrelevant. It's still 1st deg murder. If I shoved her down the stairs at home that is second degree murder. I didn't plan it ahead of time (or at least it couldn't be proven). Again, if there is proof I did the deed, motive is irrelevant. If I shove her and she trips over the table and cracks her head on the floor then it's manslaughter. You can't prove intent if I had a reasonable expectation my action would not lead to her death (lack of intent). Now take any of those examples and remove conclusive proof I did the deed. There is circumstantial evidence or incomplete evidence NOW my motive fo committing a crime becomes an issue. If I had a reason to do it coupled with some evidence I might have done it then it meets the standard for a criminal charge. To be perfectly honest I'm not sure one can untangle intent and reason for a crime this strictly but I do see you point.

Ever since it came out I tried - often and hard - to like Rebellion. The last time I tried was when it was released at GOG not too long ago. I... just can't get into it. There's something entirely off-putting in the game mechanics for me that I can't quite put my finger on, and this is coming from someone who actually enjoyed Master of Orion 3.
