Heh, nah. The game forces you to either join an alliance or make your own, I just forgot to set mine to "invite only" so lots of new players jumped aboard. I dont mind, but since Im the "Admiral" of the alliance I dont want to have to do anything to support it.

Fun game, it really makes me lose track of time. Probably too many quests and grindy for most around here though. Also, I apparently forgot to set my alliance to "private" and 31 people joined while I wasn't looking.

That's 99% of the reason, the other 1% is to curb usage.

It may work for other products but Ive never seen a "sin tax" (smokes, booze, weed) have the effect of slowing consumption.

Your post made this pop into my head; the Chicago Art Institute does the exact same thing! You pay to get into the museum but then you have to pay extra if you want to see the exhibits that are on tour from other museum. Now that I think of it, the Shedd Aquarium does it too...pay to get in but...*BAM*...extra if you want to see the dolphin show. Bastages.

I was only looking for an example of: "A game that's fun to play at install. And, if there is a leveling system, it doesn't require repetitive tasks."

But people are different. Ive grinded for an item in WoW longer than RDR2 has been released. In my case I didn't mind, in the RDR2 case there are already complainers. I do not think its possible to strike a perfect balance as someone, somewhere, will always be butthurt over any matter. Can you give me an example? Chicken or the egg! Grinds existed long before microtransactions as a means of lengthening the gaming hours. Now there is a monetary solution if you don't want to do the time. Easy peasy. The one point I do agree on; if an item can ONLY be attained via microtransaction, even after purchasing the full game, then that's wrong imo.

I ask this sincerely; players squeal at grinding, then they squeal at other players paying real world money for things (while pretending to being worried for the children), so whats the solution? The game being fully unlocked and leveled up at install? This isn't aimed at you Lexx, you just made me think about it.
