System Requirements for the PC version
Darth Ni replied to GhostofAnakin's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'd rather have a bugless game released now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There's no such thing as a bugless PC game =P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True True... It doesn't hurt to dream though? The closest thing I've seen to a "bugless" PC game is Star Trek : Starfleet Command 2 Orion Pirates. That game has a million patches, almost every bug has been fixed in the game. A major online game like Everquest, FF XI, Planetside, Counterstrike, Anarchy Online etc. etc. etc. has more bugs because of the amount of content in the game. -
Geforce 6600GT or Geforce 6800GT?
Darth Ni replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Nothing gives a 100% accurate view of things. I'm pretty sure that Futuremark's benchmark software is trustworthy though. Even if they are optimized, I think that the 66.93 Forceware for nVidia (which is what Futuremark reccomends) is probably the best driver out there for all games. So, even if its optimized for the benchmarking software, it won't make a major difference on the tests. Besides, how much of a difference can optimized drivers make? I ran 3DMark05 and 03 with 66.81. 66.93. and 67.03 and the difference between them was 1 or two fps, not a MAJOR difference. The 61.77 release is also good but its outdated and doesn't run all that well with newer games. I can't comment for ATi drivers but I'm assuming the Catalyst 4.12 are the best gaming drivers... I used to have an ATi 9600XT but, I returned it the day I bought it for being such crap. You do make a good point there though some versions are like that. Then again, nothing is 100% trustworthy or unbiased but I seriously doubt that Futuremark is on nVidia's or ATi's payroll... -
Geforce 6600GT or Geforce 6800GT?
Darth Ni replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Again: What sense does it make if your pc achieves thousands of 3d marks if it cannot run certain games properly? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, thats why you check to see that the components you select are compatible with each other and also you check to see whether your video card is compatible with the games you want to play. Obviously due to the number of possible pc configurations, a certain game does not run properly so, you get a patch when it comes out. Pretty simple isn't it? PS: How can you compare AMD and Intel processors without benchmarks? Certain games are optimized for certain video cards and processors so they don't always give an accurate view of things. Thats like saying that a 6800 GT is better than an X850 XT Platinum Edition because it performs better in Doom3. We all know that D3 was optimized for the nVidia series of cards which is why it performs better. -
Tired of XBOX getting everything first

Don't forget that the X-BOX is also cheaper than a PC. Infact, the price of a 6800 Ultra card is more than the price of an X-BOX w/ 2 Controllers, a DVD Remote and 4 games. However, I AM STILL A PROUD PC GAMER. :D -
Don't do that, sometimes pre-orders arrive later than it does in retail in Finland. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why pre-order when its already out? Just visit the store or ask your local retailer to put it on hold for you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Pre-order should in theory make it possible to get the game in your mail the same date it's released in retail. In reality however, it's diffirent. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Exactly, there is no point in pre-ordering a hot title because chances are it will be 1 - 3 days before they even ship it. I pre-ordered HW2 and it arrived 4 days after the game was released. If I had just visited EB Games, I could have gotten it on the same day because they had 3 shipments of it coming in that day.

Geforce 6600GT or Geforce 6800GT?
Darth Ni replied to Craftsman's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
As I said, there are P4 and Xeon processors with EM64T technology or Extended Memory 64 and they are 64 bit processors. But you are right, AMD is way better when it comes to 64bit computing. Ofcourse, I'd rather buy a new Intel chip in 2 years than stick with an FX-55. What stunt? Xeon 3.6GHz for $875 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-117-029&depa=1 AMD Athlon64 FX-55 for $975 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-103-492&depa=0 You're right, the difference isn't all that big but I'd still have the Xeon 3.6 because of the higher clock speed. They are both 64-bit and they both have 1MB of cache. Granted, the hypertransport technology has a 2000MHz FSB but on certain Xeon motherboards, you can perform an overclock to 1.25 GHz FSB. Also, even though Hyper-Threading doesn't make a HUGE difference, there is about a 20% performance increase with certain non-gaming applications. Well... they call them benchmarks for a reason. They do give a pretty accurate (not a 100% accurate) view of things (some of them like stuff from Futuremark). -

Lucasarts finally has new screen of KOTOR2
Darth Ni replied to KOTORFanactic's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Someone is in the spirit I do wonder though why they give the sith lords such stupid names. Nihilism means devotion to nothing but I dont see how that's related to his character but then again, I've never played K2. They'd be better of calling him Darth Syphilis if you ask me. Just imagine : He has the STD Infecter force power and the STD transmitting lightsaber, now that would be one to see. -
You are brave young one... I avoid even looking at the name of the _____ (To say it is blasphemy) forum.

Hmm... that Nihilis is back. Its not like he'll survive anyways, I'm going to enjoy gutting them all. -
No way to get Hanharr if you are LS at the start? That sucks... (Expletives deleted) I dont really like playing DS but the K2 wookiee is way cooler than some **** like Zaalbar. Even though I am a 100% LS player, I may go DS to get him...

That'll be the day... (Though I am no supporter of Bush.) -
Its all a matter of opinion. I have played HL2 and beaten it and the features on HL2 and the game engine are simply incredible. It added a level of interactive features never before seen in a game. Show me one site that gave it a negative review. E.g. You can enter a room and grab a filing cabinet and throw it at a soldier and kill the other one with a shotgun. Or... If someone is chasing you, you can hide in an abandoned aparment and rearrange all the furniture and turn off the lights and hide. You can also shoot through the walls and damage the scenery.

Awright! I have the record: 81hr29min. It seems like I went straight through; at "Normal" difficulty I only got killed, like, three times (didn't lose any NPCs) but: A. I ain't in no hurry (what's the hurry?) B. I creep around in slo-mo planting mines a lot. C. I talk to about everybody and sightsee. D. I play a lot a pazaak (win more than I lose, mostly) E. I tried swoop racing a lot (I suck at swoop racing so much DirtDevil offered to sponsor my bike!) F. I spent tons of time messing around with the workbench (turns out I didn't need to at "Normal" but I'm glad for all the new options now that I'm wading through at "Difficult.") <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No offence, but how can you take THAT long? 81 hours? Thats loooooooong...

Always got to look on the bright side. Besides, even if HL2 was ported to the XBOX or PS2, it would have A LOT of framerate issues so it probably wont happen or not until XBOX2 or PS3 is out meaning THEY HAVE TO WAIT (the suckers).
