  1. I wanted to see what others think of companions and their possible usefulness in a vacuum, so we're disregarding composition and just assuming that the character "fits" in a party, role-wise. I'll post about the characters and variations that I actually tried, the list is incomplete, but feel free to share your own opinions and thoughts. The thoughts on them are based on their performance on PotD difficulty. Eder - He's a great choice either as a fighter or a riposte swashbuckler. I haven't tried him as a pure rogue. Personality is likable, like who gets annoyed by eder? His armor is great for a tank role and later on you can switch it out because he's not gonna be the one dropping in a fight. 9/10 Xoti - Stat wise you'd want her to be a priest and nothing else. Dual class she just has too much stuff on her hands in order to cast it all and single monk, stats are kinda bad for it. Starting gear is nice and offers good bonuses from the get-go. 7/10 Aloth - Great, flexible mage that can be molded in most roles, his scepter hits multiple targets so working on his auto attacks can also be an avenue with buff spells. Haven't tried his multis as late mage spells are just too juicy to pass on, but similar to Eder he has the tools to make a riposte rogue work. 8/10 Serafen - I tried to make this guy work as all of his roles. His stats are all over the place and just don't offer much in terms of accuracy or damage contribution in a fight. He can't hit his cipher abilities, he can't hit or tank as a barbarian, and the witch inbetween is probably the worst of the three. 4/10. Pallegina - Unlike Serafen all of her subclasses and pure paladin are great. Pure paladin is something to consider if you want to be a generalist support/offtank, but the crusaider (paladin/fighter) or herald (paladin/chanter) offer specialization. Crusader puts eder to shame in terms of defenses, and herald allows you to summon and support based on your party needs. Probably the most flexible companion, and for that, 9/10 Maia - Great stats for a ranger and one of the best companions you'd want if you don't want to micro manage her, just leave her shooting and she'll be fine in a fight. Problem is, the ranger kit doesn't have much to offer other than 2 bodies for one party slot. I haven't tried her variations so I can't comment on those. 7/10 Takehu - This narcissistic godlike can fil many roles as his choices are druid, chanter or both multiclassed. Since he's a marine godlike, he has a specific spell per power level that is foe only, but gives up some spells from each class for it. All in all, he loses out on the summoning stuff from chanter so I'd say his druid is better, and multi is a bit too wide for two arcane classes. As a druid you get chill fog that doesn't affect allies so.. I guess that alone is worthy of 8/10. Sidekicks: Ydwin - This is what a good Serafen might have looked like stat wise. Even if you don't micro her, you can set mindblades to autocast and watch her annihilate waves of enemies. Her default is Mindstalker (rogue/cipher multi), but her stats are adequate for both single classes, though a ranged role is advised. 9/10 Fassina, Rekke, Konstanten: Haven't tried yet.
  2. Why crusader (is that figher/paladin)? As for me. Bleak walker / assassin dual wielder is pretty devastating. Coming out of stealth, you basically delete most things unless they are a lot above your level. Paladin defenses ensure that you can also duel someone in a straight-up confrontation. Heal through lay on hands to stand up to anything or save aloth for the Nth time, and then you can basically pick some of the rogue utility tools (which are basically just smoke screen) or whatever the paladin's got in their arsenal, depending on playstyle. Because u can stack over 150 to all defense as a crusader. In PoTD defense is more important. Also BW/Assassin has no AOE unless u willing to burn scrolls. But that's another topic. Hmm, right I guess you can get insane defenses with their skills. As for bw/assa, yeah, no aoe, but there's other people for that. Insane single target damage, healing, auras, support and disengage/teleportation is enough one guy.
  3. People don't plan stuff ahead of time. What I did was start the game, save at the beach, open up console and level to 20. Then, when you distribute your points across, you can get a sense of what you get. If you aren't happy with the end result - skill or ability wise, reset and try the distribution again or just try something else.

  5. 1. I don't think it's in any way possible. I'm pretty sure they tried or at least put the option on the table of continuing from the same level at the very early stages of development. But that opens a lot of problems. Allocating points in BG2 at the start may not have been so demanding because your character was low-level at the end of BG1. If you had a lvl 20 now, you'd be set to spend a LOT of stats and points, not to mention, they reworked the entire class/skill/progression system so you couldn't just pick up where you left off. 2. This is more personal but I think the theme is fine and the execution of the naval stuff is pretty good. Don't know if you played some tycoon games but they play nothing like this. 3. I agree that the categorization in the journal could be better, but that's probably the least problematic thing in the game atm. 4. Difficulty. Yeah the game is super easy on POTD, I can't imagine the amount of faceroll people must be doing with their offensive cipher/wizard with 2 dex and 20 res on classic or whatever. They said they'll make it appropriately hard though in the coming patches though.
  6. It doesn't look laughable when you stack it with all the other bonuses like assassinate, stealth, gambit etc. Crit also extends the duration of accompanying effects.
  7. This is so bad. Reputation options shouldn't be all that common and should be VERY polarazing and easy to read into. They should all get toned down, but some responses should grant more points than others. Case in point - You get the same amount of Cruel disposition for saying "that's the most truthful thing I heard from you" to Serafen, "You're wasting your time" to Aloth, and agreeing to kill an entire family. Those three don't carry the same weight obsidian..
  8. It's not a bad take on it, like you said it's mostly italian - Venice to be specific from a socio-economic standpoint, but almost all of the words are replaced, the male reproductive organ is bozzo when it's cazzo in italian. Vengiatta is vengeance when it's vendetta IRL and so on. I think it gives them a good sense of identity as it would have been pretty bland to just go with "make em the black faction" like they did with redguards in TES for examples.
  9. Played on PotD since the start. The only fight that I had to restart was one where I get attacked by a pirate ship early that has like 15+ enemies with me barely having anything. Penetration does have a LOT of influence and it is something I initially disregarded as the numbers didn't seem important (most talents offered 1 penetration and it looked like a joke).
  10. For example, flames of devotion gets replaced by the upgraded version.. because, natrually, the upgraded version is straight-up better. But, lay on hand remains as a downgraded option for some reason, as does stuff like knockback when you get the improved version. I'd understand if there was a cooldown system, or the original was cheaper, but I can't think of any reason why would I use base versions of something if I have an upgrade that's just better. Unless I'm missing something obvious, of course..
  11. It's not a multiplicative bonus so there are probably plenty of cases where multiclassing can be worth it. Multiclass with a Cipher for the upgraded damaging whip and you'll probably end up with a bigger bonus (even with lower PL scaling) for example. Hmm, if that's the case, wouldn't bleak walker come out on top anyway with his bonuses to accuracy, fire and corrosive lash?
  12. Athletics is really good in combat for those "oh ****" scenarios where you can casually just insta-heal without any recovery.
  13. I killed the guards, rang the bell, and the ship was stolen by the guys from the forge.. but benweth won't leave his room at the top. Am I doing something wrong?
  14. 10 Perception? You aren't going to be seeing many soul annihilation hits. Perception should be the primary stat of any mindstalker build, it also helps with criticals so there's absolutely no reason not to dump everything into it.
  15. Well now we know that going Sabre/Sword/Greatsword is probably the safest bet if you want to go Devoted. Is it just me or I'm missing my Soul annihilation much more than regular attacks?
  16. Doesn't seem bad to me at all in practice, played on PotD with a 2H weapon, the difference before and after backstab was noticable as stabbing stuff would most often result in an insta-gib. Devoted seems nice, but the game is too new to figure out what weapon you are going to specialize in atm now I think. Unless you want to respec a lot that is. Soulblade seems nice on paper, but I kind of always want to spend my cipher energy on the finisher thereby making the other stuff far less relevant. I mean why would I want to charm/debuff someone when I can just delete it?
  17. Hey guys. I tried assassin a bit and the way backstabs now work is only the first instance of damage from stealth gets buffed (so dual wield is bad). Assassinate increases crit damage, so Im not sure if its actually more viable to go single weapon in order to get better crit rate or go 2h for more consistent damage? Also, I tried soulblade with him as well, but I'm not sure if any of the cipher abilities gets priority over soul annihilation tbh? In the end I am not 100% sure is the multiclass worth the spec, given how a lot of spells have a long cast time and you're in melee.
  18. Happens to me very often. I think some characters "clip" through the geometry and that's how it gets bugged. Edit : It happened several times to me on the very first area (beach) so I'm sure you guys will easily recreate it... it practically makes the game unplayable unless reloaded in many occasions.
  19. In theory a 2H should only be better if you are auto-attacking from stealth, utilizing a full attack should grant the bonus to both weapons when backstabbing right?
  20. So wait, rogues really are weak as a single class if all they get is that invis on hit talent over a multiclass, right?
  21. Depends how big the modifiers are. I mean they get "increased" pen/crit/dmg but how much that is? And how big is the damage received penalty?
  22. Question for those that played beta/early release builds - how do rogues play out? I know rogue specific mechanics like stealth and mechanics have been reworked, but I wanted impressions from people who actually tried them out in practice. I wanted to ask more specifically for assassins because, even after they patched stealth to work individually in PoE1, going for a "backstab" build was pretty underwhelming as it was both difficult to execute, taxing on skills, and ultimately unrewarding. Have they improved that aspect in Deadfire?
