  1. Ive got the Demo on a CD, Im going to try it when I get home to my apartment. I should be able to get a full version in a couple of weeks.
  2. Apart from playing games? Im ..uhm.. learning how to make them :D ..no seriously, I do have a life.
  3. After watching more demos I dont think Ill be able to NOT get Zbrush, it just seems to be what Id like a 3D program to be and every respectable Studio will be using it or similar programs in a year or two. Its about 400
  4. I was briefly recommended to check this out by one of my graphis teachers and what Ive seen seems very impressive indeed. Is there anyone out there who has any experience with it? Whats it like? Hows the learning curve? Is there any free tutorials available online?
  5. Its a shame the whole Nazixploitation genre died out when the neonazi movements came in the late 70's and suddenly made nazis taboo again. I mean just the titles of these films were pure genious "Fr
  6. Babies are not cute, they just are. I mean, wastebins arent cute, or tables, or a beige wall, or the taste you have in your mouth in the morning if youve spent the night before eating wet paper. And you guys make me sick with your bizarre fetisches.. *goes off to watch "Ilse, She-Wolf of the SS" again* "
  7. Rules, bleh! Im here to play, not concern myelf with petty things like.. rules.. " Do you not trust brother jags?
  8. Being an "artist" usually means that you do both art and game graphics. That is why Project New Jersey will be a 2D game done completely in Corel Painter IX "
  9. ++ p.s Ender, get off your fat ass and post the logs, you ***.
  10. The adventure game genre is certainly close to RPG, its an example of genres that melt together over time. But I dont understand your argument that "classic" RPGs wouldnt be considered RPGs anymore. Unless your talking about the old DOS roguelikes, which were much more like adventure boardgames(like Heroquest or Talisman) than RPGs in the first place. edit: and the question of "playing a character or playing as yourself through an onscreen avatar in the gameworld" is a real classic one, we had two lectures about it last week. Let me get my notes and Ill get back to you on that.
  11. We're also seeing alot of genre bending and mixing so the definition between different game genres becomes less and less clear. And if everything changes, then theres no point in trying to pin down a definition. ..other than to try and sell us crap like Fable, which wasnt a RPG at all, but rather a "generic fantasy hero simulator" That is very much points A and C so the academics arent completely wrong. But, as you say, it doesnt matter.
  12. A 7 year 'screwed' cycle isnt that bad, still I dont like what MS is doing at all. *has seiszure* Yes.. console only.. thats the way to go... yup.. not getting screwed there... no sir!
  13. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=books&n=507846 Its an amazing childrens book painted by Dave McKean (and written by Neil Gaiman)
  14. Are you also obese and depressed?
  15. Sooner or later, you have to ditch the years of luggage that backwards compatibility means and move on. That means leaving a few people behind but thats unavoidable. Bad, bad example... Source was made to work on low-end computers so that Valve could continue to milk the mod market.
  16. Im never, ever giving up Lucy
  17. (hooray, another chance to flex my game dev school muscles) The common "academic" take on what constituates a CRPG is a game that: A. Focuses on the narrative elements B. Is stat based C. Contains a narrative structure that allows the player to in some way influence parts of, or all, of the story. There IS no clear definition. But I agree 100% with Sawyers take on this, its what Ive always conisdered RPG to be about
  18. Its mostly theoretical now, part of a course called "Introduction to game design and analysis" so theres no juicy how-to-program-realistic-shaders yet. I just downloaded a thingie at random to show you what it is(something thats completely legal to post here) IGAD05_Interactive_Narrative_InfoAboutLecture.pdf One perk I recently discovered is the game library :D I guess its obvious what thats about, free games for me! Its also in some cases legal to download pirated games and other things, I dont know how it works but its possible.. I guess its the Uni who pays some sort of license thingie
  19. There should be laws against eortic fanartists, too many times have my eyes and brain been polluted by the 'artistic' expressions of an obviously unsound mind. And by the minute amount of expertise granted to me by going to Dev school, I can say that doing VO's for 10000+ lines of text is insanely expensive. Until we get working voice synthesizers, we'll just have to make do with compromises.
  20. I wonder what will happen once Enders baby plops out.. shall this chronicle survive its birth? p.s Anyone interested in MY vampire game, just drop me a PM because that will be on once I get a connection at my apartment
  21. oh, I forgot to say that.. just one of my teachers is Swedish. The rest are Brits, Danes, Aussies, and a solitary American so 90% of the education is in english, part of those 90% is the current lectures on the basics of game design and analysis.
  22. I got an note in the mail that said Ill get the papers next week so with any luck Ill be connected and ready to play friday!
  23. Ive managed to break into school and hog a comp(because my access isnt working) and its interesting, all our lectures can be downloaded online as *.pdf's or powerpoint files so Ive been thinking about the morality of sharing it with you(if anyone's interested) I mean, its already been paid for by the state so whats the harm in sharing it with the rest of the world? !
  24. Ask me that again in 3 years :D but its one of these: -get a job at a developer -get a publisher for the games I will be making here at Uni -start a dev house of my own
  25. I got my Uni computer room access now but I cant sit here at midnight on Fridays so I wont be able to play until my home connection is set up which could be tomorrow or in 2 weeks, theres no way to know. But if they fix it tomorrow(bloody unlikely) Ill let you know
