  2. You would be surprised. We have "high process" and "low process" activities, but the difference in terms of AI computation isn't great. I would have to differ to the Oblivion AI squad for a more in-depth analysis of the difference, but you would be surprised at just how much we are doing in the background. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What I would like to know is why you need to have all 1500 running at once? Unless it was basic stuff like "change all NPCs in City X to be aware that plot Y just took place in City Z"

  4. I think BF2 was a very good game, if not the best "realistic" multiplayer FPS Ive played. I think this "mod" could be equally fun. And this is just as its announced that EA purchases the majority of the shares of DiCE and thus now pwns it.
  5. I just use whatever is on my motherboard and plug it into my crappy stereo ..no actually I lied, I dont even have a stereo. I spent time at my parents this summer and took the opportinity to nick the old speakers my dad was going to use for his "use my computer as a TV" experiment that failed miserably. thats two speakers... one for each ear.

  9. Typicly, the bulk of design work and input happens in the early-to-mid stages of development. At this stage, with only about 2 months left til release, it will be to late to implement any new ideas or changes a new designer might have. Its still a strange time to quit.

  11. 3DS MAX 8 single license is a little more than $4000, a network license is a little more expensive. Maya 7 is priced at $7000 for the Unlimited edition, the regular should cost about the same as MAX. Zbrush, which you WILL need to make graphics for games like Quake4 or UT3 is a measly $489 for a full version BUT a student license will run at about $150 for MAX and 350 for Maya And theres also Softimage XSI which retails from $450-7000 depending on package with a student license at $175. Its not aswidely used but Ive heard that it is better than both MAX and Maya.
  12. I think fantsy geeks are the wost kind, atleast SW and ST fans **** to photos of real people and not dodgy drawings of elves with giant breasts (edited for non-banishment-ness)

There are a dozen trashy pulp novels out every week, there are a million fanfics that should never have seen daylight published online every day, there are 20new supplements for RPGs that add nothing new or exciting out every month, theres a new and usually inane games out every 6months or so, theres a sea of sad excuses for "art" featuring chainmail bikinis on elves... and still it just keeps on commin MMOs players and writers will soon find that there are no more rewrites of "Aragolas" and "Legogorn" to be had, DMs everywhere will panic as they realise that their every plot seed has been drained dry and makers of future NWN2 modules like me begin to realise that everything that can be done has been... several times... and then back again. So I ask of you, cant we just please fetch the old 12gauge from the shed and put an end to this misery of an milked-out carcass of a genre?

It was a long time since I played it and then only the first three parts but the general premise of the "Enemy Within" campaign is to gradually reveal a conspiracy that starts with the characters catching a glimpe of it by accident(in the intro adventure amptly named "a case of mistaken identities") and then getting gradually more and more involved until... I asume, they begin to realise that it goes all the way up to the highest echelons of Imperial power. Lots of intrigue, lots of mystery, lots of investigation..
  15. I shouldnt have to put a IMO tag after everything I write, of course its just my opinion. Although one could argue that: IF no players dislike dialogue options BUT some players strongly dislike keywords/wikitalk THEN some players wont like the game UNLESS there is dialogue and so by skipping dialogue Bethesda makes it easier for themselves but lose some potential players- which is bad game design.
  16. Well, Im going to try Oblivion and if it, against all odds, turn out to be a good game then Ill admit it. Its just that Bethesdas approach to RPGs is almost the direct opposite to what I prefer. Going up to an NPC and clicking "sword" instead of being offered dialouge options giving me the ability to actually play out my characters personality is bad game design

  20. But that doesnt mean you should wait until your old card is barely useable until you buy a new one And no, AGP is an obsolete and dead bus, when you upgrade Id suggest replacing your entire core (motherboard, GFX, processor) 9600? Hmm.. that must be around 3-4years old?

The only reason why the US and Britain refuses to adapt the more logical and easy-to-understand metric system is because theyre are simply too stubborn(brits) and too lazy(us) to make the switch. The brits even cling to driving on the wrong side of the road. But to get back on subject, do you people actually make use of grids and miniatures to a large extent to handle combat?
  22. So, which one of you guys want to write the "Prison Sex" module to my upcomming RPG? High charisma as it was stated. Paladins have it going on. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I tried to raise that as my Sorc had a charisma of 22 but my GM claimed those 22 points were 'scariness' Personally, I think he was just prejudiced towards really, really tall women... with claws... and some scales.. ok, and fangs too
  23. We have an odd and slightly curious problem with our current GM. See, he suffers from an eye problem that makes it impossible for him to judge distance. And since he has had this problem since a child hes never been able to and so he cant even guess if he would imagine a room. So when we play someting can be "close" which is anything from in our faces to 15m away or "a bit further away" which is maybe 20-200m, and "far" which isnt really.. its usually too far away to shoot or do anything with. This means that any rules that take length or distance into account goes right out the window. It can also be very confusing as you might be led to believe that an enemy is 20m away but in the next round he makes a melee attack on you etc. In ranged combat it can work to our advantage as even a rusty flintlock pistol can shoot infinitly far and retain pefect accuracy Its strange. And I dont think its fixable since we are both too lazy to use grids&miniatures but also because I dislike using them because it transforms the game from an RPG into a mini-session of Warhammer
