Do you like randomness?
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to ShadowPaladin V1.0's topic in Computer and Console
Dont know a great deal about Hellgate. Diablo's most important locales were also premade as I recall. It was the linking areas that were randomised. I'm more interested in the aspect of randomness when it comes to characters really. This "forces" adaptation on the player without having to purposely nerf yourself, which is pretty nonsensical when you think about it. Having NPCs that didnt always grow at the same rate each game would certainly take much of the predictability out of replaying a game. -

Most people will have moved on by now. -
As you may or may not know I've currently been on a bit of a FireEmblem binge. FireEmblem games have two things that set them appart. First is the permadeath , character dies and they stay dead (unless its a lord then its game over since its basically their story so it cant continue without them). The other is the RNG or random number generator that comes in every time you level up. What this means is there are no guarentees in FireEmblem, while one game you may have an absolutely devastating Florina who can destroy mages with a single strike, in the next game she may never get over 10 str. Such is the fickle nature of the random number generator. I'm actually rather fond of it because even if you play on the same maps the way the characters grow will have a huge impact on how they play out. For example in one game my Ken had double attack very early on and could kill most things in a single turn. In another game he had double attack but at level 10 only 7 strength so what worked in the first game no longer worked and the tactics had to be adapted. Its not totally random of course. Some characters are more predesposed to certain stats than others. a characters stat growth looks something like this HP-90% STR-40% SKL-30% SPD-30% LCK-30% DEF-55% MDF-20% Everytime they level an invisible percentile dice determines if a stat increases or not. So as you can see for this character there is a very good chance of extra hps per level. A little over 50/50 for defence and not much for anything else. I think this gives the game a much more organic feel as well as leading to some tough choices as a commander. Do you drop a character who is not making the grade, or stick with them in hopes that they will come good later on. Or you could pile on stat enhancers to keep your favourites on the battlefield at the price of weakening your army overall.

Start as LS and fall to the DS
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Cassidy's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I suppose he's not bad, but by the time he shows up you should already have a pretty solid team anyway. Ironic that he would be most useful on his own ship and a little sad that he would have probably been the star of the droid planet. -
Thanks I'll give that a go. Even Nintendo didnt know how to do it

Arggg brain overload. Never ever ever select as desktop wallpaper !!!

Old games never die, they just go to a new platform

Just thought I'd torture you with the thought of Uwe Bol making a movie of postal the game. He's currently in negotiations for the rights. Which makes you wonder...

Thanks much appreciated.

I recognised them so they cant be as bad as you claimed. What you really need to draw is a Bulma :D

Should Tatooine and/or Kashyyk be in KotOR 3
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to User Name's topic in Obsidian General
He's the character from Dark Forces and Jedi Knight. You could probably just copy the concepts from the films too. SW seems to be a pretty static place where nothing much changes. One of the funniest things about lego SW was being able to march Jar Jar into all manner of deadly traps. -

Really dont think it makes any difference to people who dont follow the EU. I have no idea what any of those planets were like 4000 years ago so they are just names. -

You must have missed the people litterally crying on the boards because they couldnt get passed that in KOTOR.. My fave mini game is Chocobo hot and cold I could play that for hours. Dosnt hurt that it comes with great prizes too. -

The big lure of the darkside in the cave is infinite experience. Not being able to regenerate FP's as LS is another thing that makes the cave a test of character. -

Cant see any reason why you would. It's the heart of the Sith code to grow stronger than and ultimately destroy your master. In view of EPIII I'm not sure about Vaders redemption. In the films and even in the books with the Nogori he wasnt much more evil than a soldier doing his job most of the serious evil he kept for people who failed him. Someone who butchers small children dosnt deserve the same rewards as people like Obi Wan and Yoda just because he saved his son. Chalk up another one for Kreias plan to destroy the force being a good idea. -
You get a different personal crystal depending on your alignment. It also gets stronger over the course of the game but you have to give it to Kreia to be retuned in order for that to happen I think. Did have the strat guide here but I put it away.

Why is the ending disliked???
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Weaponmaster303's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Nicely done. It's also possible that Kreias "death" was the key to opening the navi comp since it's proof of the Exiles ability to be strong enough to face whatever comes next. -
Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions

That concept has been around since Kyle Kattarn maybe even before that. -

I think you nailed it. It's only from a certain point of view. Which is very different from not being SW. Your never going to make everyone happy, thats simply a fact of games design. So is KOTORII. It's not introducing anything alien to the setting (like a wizard in pointy hat) but rather it's deepening what already existed. So comparing that to something like a spaceship in a WWII movie dosnt make a whole lot of sense. -

As long as it's a mini game. It's pretty irrelevent (even if it is appreciated as a time saver) if it's simply a case of clicking on XXX and appearing at your new destination. The breathe of fire IV route would be my favourite (it has a sandspeeder) before you can get to a new location you have to finish the mini game "race track" but once you do you can choose to either do it again or just go their directly. Of course lots of people dont like mini games and they do take away from the roleplaying since they function soley on the players own talents rather than those of the character. Kashyyyk sounds like it would be more fun to jet around in real time (all those trees ouchies) and reminds me of the scene from the EPVI arcade game on Endor. -
I havnt played all of them, but I cant really see much of a movie there unless they alter the character in some pretty significant ways.

Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
LA were very impressed by it. While you could scratch the surface in a 3 hour movie a game without depth isnt particularly interesting. KOTOR II is much more interesting than KOTOR simply because it's not so black and white. KOTORs "ace" was the whole Revan thing, although if you saw through it , well it backfired and became the game railroading you. Totally different thing introducing deeper concepts is nothing like having lasers or other physical items. Since your doing a WWII comparison. Well KOTOR is the old John Wayne movies and KOTOR II is Saving Private Ryan and Shindlers List. The former present very black and white scenerios and the latter add depth and shades of grey. But all are WWII movies and nothing contradicts the setting.
