I think there were two main factors. 1. Xmas release ,obviously means more sales. 2. Last thing LA wanted was for KOTOR II to clash with the big EPIII push. Given those two things were relatively close, not a lot to lose by going for the biggest sales holiday. It dosnt look like 2005 is anywhere like feasable (or planned) and Xmas 2006 would be over schedule for NwNII anyway.

Stories tend to be highly subjective. Graphics on the other hand, your on much sturdier ground with those. Stories dont have the same imediate impact that a 30 second wow burst has either.

There isnt really any other way to run an interactive cutscene which is why you have that method. I suppose you could give the option to allow the cutscene to play out without any button pushing. But then Japanese developers are not known for taking it easy on gamers and most of the gamers wouldnt want it any other way.

Standard Characters Vs Choice Characters
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Kata_mad's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I think KOTOR III should try to step away from the whole protagonist thing and instead tell the story through a series of chapters which involve different characters, which may or may not meet up at the end depending on what you do. Not only would this be a better fit for the Star Wars thing, but it would also be a point of uniqueness. -
A game that dosnt have at least an element of frustration really isnt challenging.

Those black faced sheep on the Isle of Skye are seriously disturbing.

For some people it obviously isnt as it's the part they get stuck on. What makes it different is short of having a cheat code there is no way around it but to train yourself to conquer the problem.

It isnt fixed. It's not simply a case of knowing that you will have to press A A B Y X. What really makes it different from normal gameplay is people overthink it and thats where they go wrong. Noramlly you see something like an attack coming in and you react to it instantly , you dont think about what buttons you pushed, its like changing gear in a car, you dont think about doing it , you just do. When you put a visual cue on screen suddenly people just go to pieces in the panic to press the button. Because the button pushing sequences are interactive cutscenes, they allow actions that are not part of the normal control scheme. Character reflexes dont even come into it. If you dont do the action in time then your dead. It's not like some games where having a character with higher agil will give you extra time. The challenge is part mental. It's kind of funny really because if you didnt have the ability to do it , then you could never have gotten that far in the game.

Standard Characters Vs Choice Characters
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Kata_mad's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
True, but when you take it as fact then everything else slots into place. One of my favourite sayings is gameplay dosnt lie. And there is a gameplay effect of the exiles ability to influence people into doing things against type. I thought it was a little dig at how RPGs work :D , but equally you could see it re-embracing what you have lost. You have to face upto the past before you can move on. The killing then becomes incidental. -
Aaaalright, just to set the record straight...BioWare did not develop KotOR 2. Obsidian Entertainment did. Additionally, BioWare is highly unlikely to develop KotOR 3, what with the new intellectual properties we are busy developing (ie. Jade Empire, Dragon Age). James Hanley said it. And this You might want to brush up on your forum etiquette, or this thread will follow the other into lockdown in short order. As Charamei stated, the place to talk about this is on Obsidian's boards, if you actually want it seen. If you truly feel the need to continue to talk about it here, that's fine and dandy. Do so civilly, but please do not expect KotOR 3 to be done by BioWare. :shade: Hope its useful because I had to memory search for my username and password The latter post does seem to imply that Obsidian are indeed the developers of KOTORIII but maybe I'm just reading into it.

Thats one really big negative. The first movie is so good that the subsequent have a long way to fall.

Standard Characters Vs Choice Characters
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Kata_mad's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The Exile is a special case. How the characters intergrate and the whole influence system is written around the abilities of the character. It dosnt occur to them that they can leave anymore than Mira can keep up her code of not killing when your around. -

Should have painted Vissas silver :D anyone volunteer for the job -
Done so , with the exception of force healing. I think having to hang around to heal or having to transit back to the EH to heal would be more annoying than fun. Still each to their own.

Challenge is always going to be a personal thing. Not much anyone is going to be able to do about that. RE 4 isnt an RPG so it's all about what the player can and cant and do. Rather than about what the character can do. Its you job to make sure they do it in the right place and at the right time. Pressing buttons to a prompt isnt that different to pressing a button to react to a specific event. Once you throw out the difference and overcome the tendancy to freeze up staring at the prompt rather than pushing the button the whole thing intergrates rather well.

McDonald's will take over the world, I tell you!

Whenever I eat there I always order something non standard so they have to cook it from fresh. This often gets me glared at. I watched that documentry "Super Size Me" it was interesting how much worse the effects were than imagined. I mean its a no brainer that you will get fat because unless you were constantly exercising you could never burn off enough calories to overcome the intake. In the UK the advertising has done a 360 and now they are telling you to eat fruit. -
Actually I hope that the new models are so much better that you wont even recognise them.

He looks more like Ming crossbred with a big eared elf.

It's a PC game. I'd be really suprised if it wasnt unfinished.

The most useless character

You would just need enough of it to melt a hutt. -
Very nice. Could be quite a talking point. But I'll stick to my suits of armour in the lounge

I'd say they have a fair bit riding on NwN II. Although from how deep the rot runs its a band aid rather than a cure.

Standard Characters Vs Choice Characters
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Kata_mad's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Choice characters are better for two reasons. One, they increase the difference in replays. Two, they make more sense in the context of who they travel with. As for KOTORI's romance being better. Going to have to disagree with that one. KOTOR II's were far more meaningful and intimate. The player should NOT be able to pick and choose companions just because. First and foremost these are roleplaying games and so a certain ammount of game integrity is required. -
Isnt one of those things people constantly complain about that a game lacks any sort of challenge. To say its like a mini DDR is a big exageration.

The Exile is Revan
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Darth Sprawl's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You could twist the story around that idea. But I dont expect many people would buy into it.
