And those are the key words. Which is what he is alluding to I suspect.

Yes. If it were not a Star Wars game I'd probably agree.

I'm sure they will get over it. Better a decent game that upsets people than a game that sucks because you tried to keep too many people happy.

Kotor 3: Ideas and Suggestions
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Fionavar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Seems unlikely especially in light of the forums nearly being closed down. -
By killing Revan off you do open the way for a very different type of KOTOR game. Lets just for simplicity say your flying through space on a Jedi "seed" ship and you happen across the hulk of the Ebon Hawk. The only thing on board of relavence is a T3 unit. (Inagine following the events of KOTORII the remaining companions set out to gather other force sensitives and your one of the many on the ship. This also gives you a good chance to have a tutorial section as both the character and the player are trained. As for who by, well my choice is Mira.) On activating the T3 unit you get a holo of Revan and the Exile fighting a losing battle against the Sith. One or the other then implants a message that the plan has failed and the only thing you can do is to untite the galaxy against the coming storm. Now rather than set you up as some sort conquering hero, you now how the role of diplomat. You have to convince people of the threat, you have to get people to put aside their divisions etc. Now how you go about that should be your choice. You could for example work to remove a regime that basically told you to take a hike and replace it with something a bit more receptive. At the same time you would be searching places like Yavin IV , Koriban (which has to be bigger than in the games) etc. For information and more importantly evidence of this new and unknown threat. This way both Revan and the Exile get there moment of glory and your not stuck playing some sort of super hero. But rather someone fairly ordinary. Along the way you will meet some of your shipmates from the start, some of whom have stayed true to the original ideal (be it light or dark) and others who have chosen a different path and may well be trying to undermine your efforts of unification.

Standard Characters Vs Choice Characters
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Kata_mad's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You should get loads of DS points for going around killing innocent creatures for no reason. -
I'm lukewarm towards action combat in FPS when it comes to hand to hand.
-
I'm not sure how successful that would be in a game. Unless you simply railroad the character along your path maintaining tension while at the same time allowing choice dosnt seem to equate to the movie model where you can wrap the story around the desired effect and not have you actor go off and do something else which totally ruins the moment.

This is the guy who created MGS... He should be a master at that by now.

I dont really agree, I'm just as open to the gamer failing as the game :D Apples and Oranges, one is a hands on system where your skill determines all, the other is a hands off system where your character build is "tested" by the rules easy combat in a hands off system isnt so bad as easy combat in a hands on system. There are many more complex systems already out there. It's just a matter of whether or not you happen to have played them. And yet ironically it is those things that increase the player factor in much the same way added "twitch" elements would.

I think I have a different perspective on the KOTORII romances and it has to do with the respective races involved.
-
I wouldnt dispute that from a purely subjective view. However you cant measure fun and people have different ideas of what fun is. I wouldnt be wrong If I said you found JEs combat fun would I ? I on the other hand found it simplistic dull and repetative.
-
What is your logic behind that reasoning? Because the way I see it , success or failure is then reduced to a luck factor. Since people whinge about easy games as much as they do about hard ones.
-
In an interview with the guy who did MGS he said pretty much this. The PS3 while superior is unlikely to reach its full potential because of other factors (most likely cost and time). If however he is wrong and the PS3 does reach its full potential then people will be going whats an Xbox360 in 6 years time.

Never show that too much can you.

Or they may have gotten to the first boss hit a brick wall and returned the game. I dont think you could really claim a game failed just because some people didnt find it fun. I had to approach the game like I do a beatum up (spending time making the control scheme instinctive) before I could get anywhere. Although I was kinda soft from playing too many RPGs which challenge in a different way .

Or to learn something new Fun is largely subjective. Very few games are fun throughout although they are when you look at the overall experience. Many people didnt find Ninja Gaiden fun because it was just too hard for them. But I wouldnt say that Ninja Gaiden failed.

Yeah, dosnt exactly inspire confidence in Atari's long term future.

Should Tatooine and/or Kashyyk be in KotOR 3
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to User Name's topic in Obsidian General
Depends what sort of budget they put behind it. Star Wars isnt exactly the poster child of good writing and direction anyway. -

Standard Characters Vs Choice Characters
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Kata_mad's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Never said that. What I said was better graphics have far more immediate grabbing power than a better story. I seriously doubt anyone will disagree with that. I'd like to see the influence system at work with a "normal" character. Moving wallpaper... right... Can't think of any other game where a character has put off talking to an NPC because they fear that their whole life view could just be wrong and perhaps the world isnt just Light and Darkside after all. Not bad for moving wallpaper. If that is what a moving wallpaper NPC is. Then I can only hope that they appear in more games. -
No it's an anime about the creation of artificial life.

Standard Characters Vs Choice Characters

Actually for me it did, put then I never tried to play the system to my advantage. Which is one of the flaws, if you do set out to simply gain influence then its not a particularly difficult thing to do. It's enough that the concept has merrit. Few things that are new are perfect first time. As I said to implement such a concept in 12 months is close to miraculous. Your disapointment is really your issue not mine. I see no particular reason to share it. And since you see merit in the system I'm more inclined to put it down to with refinement you will become less disapointed. I'll take flawed with potential over stagnated any day of the week.
