Jade Empire sequel confirmed
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to kumquatq3's topic in Computer and Console
Or lack there of. The magic number is 1 million. Anything below that for an established studio which is a full project I would consider a failure. All that really proves is that FF is very much in a league of it's own. Exactly JE is selling on Biowares merits, unfortunately it didnt manage to do as well as something that was licensed. Start of a trend ? Who knows. KOTOR sold that in the first couple of months and at full price. That you would have to go back to a time where the market wasnt as large or active as it is now, well that just shows how you need to reach to make JE look succesful. -

If your happy with Bioware selling 500,000 copies of games after chalking up 2 and 3 three million, then who cares ? If you ask anyone at Bioware would they rather JE sold half a million or 2 million no one is going to answer the former. No it's pretty clear to anyone who isnt a fanboy that JE did not have the same success as Biowares lisenced titles. Believing dosnt even enter into the equation. -

Just because something made money it can still fail. If your an A student and you have scored 100% in all your tests, and then you get a 65% , you may have passed the test, but you still failed. Lots of very mediocre games get sequels. Duh, like they are going to say anything else. Even if the game totally flopped MS still wouldnt want to lose Biowares "good will" to the PS3. It's not a claim that success is relative, it's a fact. I attribute Biowares success to the fact they were using strong lisences now rather than to any sort of ability :D If they churn out of a couple more half million sellers , that golden sheen is going to rub off. Oh and I never said that you had to sell the sort of numbers FF does (88 million to date or there abouts) to be succesful, only that Sqenix has a very different measure of sucess to someone like Bioware, who in turn has a different measure of success to some russian RPG maker. -

Maybe in Canada but you get totally gouged. What you mean like the Xbox :D MS will support it if it has potential to sell some 360's. Failure is relative. If FFXII only sold 600 copies I'd consider that a huge failure too. Of course it's already way into the millions on pre orders -
I share my birthday with rememberance day. The poppy foundation is the only human charity I will contribute to, so yes I have a lot of respect for the people who died in that war. Both sides, since my grandfathers brother married a German woman at the end of WWII and you couldnt have met a nicer person.

Your not making sense.. Should that be bashed ? It was bargain bin within a month and budget within six. Hardly call that a success could you. Yeah, well I'm so going to miss -
Anyone who can plug something in can build a computer. The place where you need advice really is what to put into it. If you already need a PC for something else, then having one that plays games isnt such a big deal. If however you only use your PC for basic things, then you may as well buy a console.

I'd probably rent it. No way would I buy it though without making sure that it wasnt at least twice as long. And the combat AI was seriously overhauled. -
True, but the sales of console games are higher overall too. I doubt it evens out, or developers wouldnt be scrabbling to make console games like they are. With the exceptions of flightsims and things that require actual typing, it's really not a big deal. Key shortcuts may speed things up a bit, although I've found the DS touch screen to be a great method of control. Point me in the direction of this richly varied potential, because I can't say I've seen any on the PC for quite some time.

Oerwinde pretty much summed it up. It's a game I really wanted to hate, but just couldnt after playing it. -
So what do people think about Star Craft Ghost ?

PS3 may not play used PS3 games...
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Epiphany's topic in Computer and Console
Courtesy of Fubdub If anyone actually bothered to read up on the news instead of taking everything from some OMG! tabloid website as fact, you'd find that: 1) The patent filing is 6 years old (if it didn't appear in PS2, why would it appear on PS3) 2) The patent seems to be an update of patents going back to the 80s (if your Sony cdplayer from '92 didn't have it, why would the PS3) and 3) The patent seems to be a system to check if a cd is valid and not a dodgy copy rather than some kind of windows XP validation thing for console, which is roughly the same system every cd game has been using for years. (If all cd based consoles has used it, it's common sense that so would the PS3) Sony is doing some pretty nasty things with DRM these days, there is really no need to look hard for dirt in old patentfilings, just look at what is currently in their cd's and in their MD players and there should be plenty of mud to throw at them for everyone to have a go. (can't vouch for the accuracy of it but it seems pretty reasonable). -

Amusing DC/Xbox360 comparison
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Oerwinde's topic in Computer and Console
No I'm not backing you. Your left with the same choice I'm left with when something dosnt appear on the rental list. 1. Buy it and play it. 2. Don't buy and don't play it. Those are the only choices I offer my support to. -
Amusing DC/Xbox360 comparison
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Oerwinde's topic in Computer and Console
Not so , if the choice is between buying and not buying , then people will generally buy. This is simple enough to verify by examining the rental market, since your theory is that piracy is some sort of rental scheme. Ok i'll counter that with an example of my own (based on rentals not priracy) I've rented a heck of a lot of games from blockbusters (since I have three machines , four now if you count the PSP rentals). Out of all those rentals I would have bought about 60% (rather than miss them completely). Latest example , Spartan If it had been there for rental I would have rented and probably finished it over the three days, it wasnt so I went out and bought it. -
What do you think of it ? I found it too similiar to the first one, and the official campaign was dull.

Action/RPG fits best. Add desired prefix such as FPS 3PS etc. The action part denotes a certain amount of player skill being required and the RPG part denotes, the player skill being augmented by the abilities of a character of some kind. Just because you can sneak your way through large portions of the game dosnt make it a stealth game. A stealth game is a game where stealth is vital to success and not only a path you can choose. I drove my way through the majority of Halo II , but it didnt make it a driving game either :D

PS3 may not play used PS3 games...
ShadowPaladin V1.0 replied to Epiphany's topic in Computer and Console
In case anyone is still reading this. This is kind of interesting (and PS3 related). Michael Ephraim, the MD of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, has suggested that PlayStation 3 games may not be region encoded. This would mark a signficant shift for the company - although PSP games are not region locked, all PSone and PS2 titles come in US, Japanese and PAL flavours. But speaking to Australian IT, Ephraim said: "If you look at the fact that it will support high-definition TV, which will be a global standard, there's a good likelihood that it will be global region, as for example we've done with the PSP." Which means you'd be able to stock up on games on trips to the States or, if you're extra global, Japan, and play them in your shiny new PS3 with no trouble at all. Sounds like good news to us - let's just hope Ephraim's prediction comes true. I'd be absolutely overjoyed in ways you can't imagine if this turns out to be true.
