A Lack of Books
Tick replied to etno's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I prioritize time spent on the direct story, so if that's the cost for a more fleshed out game otherwise, that's totally fine with me, but I did love the build up on lore with books. I was a little disappointed when there wasn't more at the library. -
I'm not inherently for the epic main quest thing, but I actually really liked the one in poe2. I just wish it gave either more agency or more content, or something. But otherwise it builds on the sort of pro autonomy /positive nihilism from the last game, and any themes involving the Gods and society, which is fantastic. Breaking the wheel is a step toward breaking away from the gods /not needing them anymore. Potentially.

RDC...w.t.f (Spoilers)

Your rep is still positive? When I did that, I kept the positive but also got 2 or 3 negative. However, the Maia thing was the same. -

I don't know about those last two, but the order sounds right. -

It's cool seeing you guys work so much on cleaning up the flexibility of the quest storylines. Much appreciated! -

Actually I need to clarify. Don't do more than Dunnage for Serafen's quest until you talk to Furrante after the quest with what's his face. Dude that loves his harpsichord. Furrante will want you to go to Crookspur when you talk to him after dealing with harpsichord man. -

There's definitely a hidden line you should follow to have the best and fullest experience of the game. Obsidian obviously tried to make it flexible, which I really appreciate, but it doesn't quite work for some of the story as is. The - gameplay- generally still **works, ** but it's less enjoyable. I can't tell you everything, because I messed up a lot I think and there's a lot of stuff, but I can say : It seems best to go complete Port Majae > Do Dunnage? > Go straight to the palace in Neketaka > talk to prince on the Gullet >get Tekehu > go to Gullet and do Gullet things. ALSO, *do not go past Dunnage in Serafen's quest until you've gone to Crookspur. * -
Your Deadfire endings

As messed up a they are, I think there's a legitimate argument to going with them. They actually can do a lot of good, it just comes with a heavy series of costs and consequences (usually to others). They just hit all the wrong red flags /buttons for me. Obsidian wrote the faction extremely well. They have a similar argument as why you should side with Caesar's Legion, but the argument actually works /seems legitimate in PoE. And they don't seem as malicious. -

Lol. "You know, for the greater good." It's kind of interesting hearing someone actually aim for the bad endings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_q2wBzT6uU That basically sums up the RDC questline. Hahaha. The face at the end. That's pretty spot on. I think the RDC mentality/perspective is extremely interesting but I don't think I could ever go that route. -
Quests from the Gullet
Tick replied to Tick's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I imagine there's some quests they're not happy with in the PoE series lol. Exactly! Everything having an easy and perfect solution seems kind of insane to me. It feels a lot more authentic and more like you accomplished something that when it's *not* that way. -

I have no idea. I only remember three. But I didn't finish the quest either. -

Why did so many take Serafen? I did because 1) I like him, but more 2) he was a neutral(ish) party when I had to navigate the maze of political scheming. Pallegina and Maia are nightmares to deal with in that situation. -

It's weird, I feel mixed about the main story and it's ending. I really liked elements about it, but funnily enough I relate to the complaints and observations here way more than I expected. The concept and stuff that was there was really cool, it just felt.. Atrophied? Cut up? I don't know. Also, I think they really had something going with the question, "is it better to act to fix something but potentially cause horrible consequences, or is it better to let horrible things happen and not do /cause something horrible yourself?" They had that with Aloth's quest and touched on it with Eothas and maybe an incy bit with the Watcher. If they had just put more time on that, I think it would have resonated more. Also would have benefited on focusing a little more on the autonomy vs authority theme again. Just because it was kind of already there with Eothas's choice about the wheel and the gods. The themes definitely there already, just felt a little quiet.
