The TV and Streaming Thread: Pilot Week

I think it's pretty dumb in universe too. "We nuked the planet to **** and then pulled ourselves up by the bootstraps" seems a bit too optimistic, even by the standards of Trek. Sure some would earn achievements through that struggle, but a whole lot more would probably die. Using the irl earth as an example again, if there was an organization like the Federation out there I'd sure hope that they wouldn't let us all die to climate catastrophe or a nuclear holocaust to satisfy an ideological commitment that half of their captains end up breaking anyways. -
Nothing says lighthearted like the 90's Berserk anime.

The Prime Directive is a product of that writing. I think that don't give cavemen tech weapons is one thing, but the refusal to make contact or help out is another. Perhaps it doesn't make as good storytelling, but it seems mean spirited to deny helpful technology to people that could really use it. I mean, if there was an alien organization like Starfleet irl that knew about out planet and didn't help us out with our apocalyptic predicament(s), they would be top tier ****. But I also think the Mauquis were right. https://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/actors/frank-langella-net-worth/ I would much prefer to have $5 mil in the bank instead of the very American reality of working too much for too little. The "cancelled" guys need to get some perspective. -

**** it, hot take time. The Prime Directive has always been bull**** used to justify some incredibly questionable writing in regards to inaction. -
Color me shocked. I guess we'll have to wait until the midterms for Democrats to do nothing again and beg us to vote in 2024. The person you're talking to agrees with both of those dogwhisltes as well. Some folks care more about geopolitical power relations than they do principles and they toss in a dose of brown people bad for good measure, so when Russia targets (white) civilians it's barbarity, but when Israel targets (brown) civilians it's necessity and the fault of Hamas. Weird that some people can't be consistent and condemn the murder of civilians universally, but the real world is a very strange place.

I'm pretty sure the season finale will be the group taking a trip to Morioh and getting caught in the crossfire between Wonder of U and Soft & Wet. Hopefully Stalker Girl still has the heart attack or stroke though.

Yeah, I think it's similar in most cities in every country that housing has increased substantially than wages. I'm not sure of the specifics though, for instance I've read that Tokyo apartments are more affordable than their comparisons in NYC or London. At any rate, it's a rough deal to be working and renting these days.

I can't reasonably afford to buy a house, and last time I tried it got picked up for several 10ks above asking with cash and is currently being rented out. My rent has been steadily increasing* and even making more now it's getting to be a struggle for me to keep up with. Comparatively, bad tenants is a problem I'd love to have. Green grass on the other side and all that. *While nowhere in Texas is like the Bay Area, LA, or NYC level of housing costs, wages are lower and there are no (legal) limits to how much rent can be raised. Given the influx of (relatively) rich Californians looking to cosplay cowboy here, I have a feeling it's about to get even crazier in most major Texas cities.

Looks to be the whole thing, avaliable in the US (and I assume with VPN in case it's region restricted).

No, but with that description I sure as hell will.

I haven't watched much animu lately, but I will be watching the lain like thing that sounds like a drug soon. Right now it's between that, new Dexter, or finally doing the Twin Peaks rewatch and losing (what's left of) my mind.@Bartimaeus changing his mind on something is proof that soon he will join us in having trash taste. I did watch the recent Komi and honestly, it was just boring. Stalker Girl going panty hunting and horny dudes imagining dates doesn't even get a response at this point.

I guess Avatar really went off the rails after Legend of Korra. What kind of bending turned everyone into blue cgi people?
