  1. I think I would have liked Utena much more if the Black Rose arc never happened, with the exception of the cow episode. Maybe it's because DIO got depressed and hid in his room, maybe it's because it went into a very repetitive formula at that point, or maybe it was some other thing that subconsciously turned me off. Regardless of why, I think Utena would be much better for me if it didn't have that awful arc. I don't really mind difficult to comprehend, sometimes I think it can be good not to understand something because you'll educate yourself if it was interesting. While I don't have a top list of anything because my taste changes by mood and situation, the Lynch scene I've been thinking about lately is the In Dreams lip synch in Blue Velvet. Between the absurdity of Suave Ben singing into a staging light (which I've read was an accident), the captive audience of Jeffrey and Dorthy (and her husband and child in the backroom as hostages), and Frank Booth's discomfort that leads to him shutting down the tape, it works for me as creating a very malevolent situation while making Frank both more humanized and creepy. It's very chef's kiss for me. The other is the entire 15 minutes of What Did Jack Do?, where David Lynch interrogates a monkey. I forgot where I was going with this. Ok then, I'll probably cautiously check out Princess Tutu after I've watched some other stuff, but something like the Sailor Moon episodes without the charming crazy stuff like Usagi turning into a tennis ball sounds like not my thing.
  2. David Bowie is waiting for you. However weird you think it looks, I promise what is actually going on is stranger. Which I suppose is normal for JoJo. If you set low bars, you will always be happy with the result.
  3. One is blocked. Even if it wasn't.....well I'd probably watch it later. That may be true, but I think it's very true that I'm more likely to seek out weird stuff. I will probably check it out, but I'm not in the mood for magical girls (played straight) right now. Gurren Lagann is probably my next anime watch. That is quite an image. At least I keep my excremental ramblings in single posts. And I hope they are at least more funny than armchair expertise.
  4. I guess those are strange, but you've seen half of them yourself and probably loads more stuff like the German or Austrian comedy music act you linked a while back or the early cgi show. Anyways, **** it. I like strange because it's usually entertaining (and because I am weird). There's just too many lukewarm rehashes all trying to replicate cultural phenomena that fall flat on their ass. In my lifetime (which isn't that long, I say coping) I've seen three separate DARKER, GRITTIER Batman franchises launch. I've seen several sci-fi reboots or ripoffs that just suck, I've seen tons of cookie cutter shonen shows, and now unfortunately I'm seeing a slew of shows aiming at being the next GoT. All of these can go to hell, they're boring and creatively bankrupt **** no one but those hardcore into fandom will remember.
  5. I don't know, what would you consider strange? You've watched all episodes of Star Trek Discovery and I think it's strange that it continues to exist.
  6. Besides the general tilting at "woke" windmills the GOP has been doing to stir up braindead suburbanites? Until recently, Disney was funding these Florida politicians. This is specifically a reaction to Disney taking away money from them.
  7. The wiskers were a dead giveaway for me. But I guess they are kinda small.
  8. At this point I wonder if they even know. The year is 2026. The Prince symbol variant ravages the world. President Kanye West is bombing Sudan. Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 6 has finished and The End of Attack on Titan has been announced. Maybe after I read JoJolion.
  9. People in the AMPAS voted for it. That's all there is to it. Personally I thought it was a brilliant film and Bong Joon-ha is a fantastic director. Of the nominees in the category that year only The Irishman really rivals Parasite for me.
  10. I wouldn't say that it's quite like a Lynch movie, but several episodes go into surreal dream(like) territory that probably evokes a similar response. I liked it because I am a ****ing weird guy who digs **** like that, but it definitely isn't everyone's cup of tea. Besides, it's post-90s which you have consistently disliked besides Samurai Champloo. I dunno, I think Berserk (90s) is the only thing I'd recommend to you, with the caveat it has a lot of violent and sexual stuff, much of the sexual stuff being violent to boot. The manga is even more extreme in that regard, and while very good is some heavy ****.
  11. Hades. Finally escaped using the spear only to go back to hell. Oh well, it's fun when I'm in the mood for hack and slash. Currently gaming to get the fated prophecies done, once that's over with I can just take the stuff that works best for me.
  12. So I got a password to Paramount Plus and decided to watch Star Trek Picard. It's actually ok? The characters can be annoying at times but it really feels like an updated Trek show. One thing I'm wondering about though
  13. Finished Ergo Proxy. I went in expecting some cyberpunk stuff, and instead got something that was surreal insanity. So pleasant surprise there. I'll try to do a writeup later. Not sure who else has seen it here, but I'd recommend it to @Sarex, @Gorth, and @InsaneCommander for sure. @majestic will probably react the same way he does to David Lynch movies, but at this point he's taken enough mental trauma from Kurtzman Trek that he may like it now. @Bartimaeus will hate it and curse us for all eternity if they watch it, so stay away! I can't get a good read on @Amentep's taste, so I can't recommend it to them beyond generally as an interesting surreal post-apocalyptic series. Let's see if all the @s break the post lmao Edit: Thanks @ShadySands, this show was really my jam
  14. Yeah, though I've heard speculation that there may be a movie as the real finale.
  15. The last episode drops this Sunday I think. I'm caught up until there. Anyways, I'm at the last four episodes of Ergo Proxy. What a god damn ride this has been.
  16. Just reading that makes me want to clean my mouth out.
  17. I'm not going to speculate on the mindset of a guy I've never met, maybe Will Smith is a very angry man or maybe he isn't. I'm more commenting on comedians looking at the prospect of slap and taking precautions against it. They're not going to want to be in the same room as someone who would slap them and are going to try their damndest to avoid it.
  18. Something tells me a **** ton of comedians **** themselves after that slap and are going to start screening frantically.
  19. The anime thread's groupwatch of Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend.
  20. The excusing of atrocity by Ukrainian forces in this conflict specifically and "Western" forces historically generally. In this case it's an inversion of the usual, because usually the US (or an ally) takes the role of invader. Just come out and say you believe your enemies are ontologically evil and no act against them is wrong. It's more honest than trying to conform supposed principles to real life actions.
