Is it just me or combat is really tedious?
Tartantyco replied to Zeckul's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Once you know the YOU HAVE 20 SECONDS TO COMPLY! -
This is the Dyrford Village map, for reference: Looking at the World Map you've linked to, it seems that Dyrford Village is positioned on the SW side of the river, meaning that East would be upwards on the Village Map, and North would be to the left. Edit: No, I re-checked the World Map in-game, and the river is definitely flowing in the wrong direction.

Or have resting spots that give bonuses, like with Inns. -
If something is temporary, that pretty much means it's reversible. Have you considered that they maybe just haven't added the effect? What an absurd and random comment to make. Do you even know what passive-aggressive means?

Well, it's not pixel hunting when the plants are easily identifiable, is it?

Eurogamer on Combat XP, Turn-Based Battles
Tartantyco replied to PrimeHydra's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I wasn't referring to your post, Hydra(Except the Script AI stuff). I don't think too many people are as emotionally invested in their positions as the combat-XP people, so I don't think there'd be much uproar. I simply believe Objective or Quest XP to be the superior design choice. -

Talk about "sky-is-falling" level comments in this thread. It's hilarious watching people think that Obsidian is somehow going into panic mode based on absolutely nothing. This is completely absurd. RTwP seems a little hectic in a few instances due to a lack of feedback, a couple of bugs, encounters that have been slapped together for the Beta alone, and imbalances. Other than that, it's pretty much the same as the IE games. AI scripts have nothing to do with it. It seems silly to have to remind people of this again, but it's a Beta in the bug fixing and balancing stage of development. -
If we're going to be using lowest common denominator illiterate hill people as our benchmark for who needs to understand these attributes, then nothing will ever be sufficient.

Discussion: the PoE beta xp system

Did you seriously just start a new thread based on an ongoing discussion in another thread, but cutting out everything but the stuff you agree with? -
Do you want experience from combat?
Tartantyco replied to DnaCowboy's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Do you see the amount of assumptions in this post? First, you assume that there will be plenty of these checkpoints. Second, you assume that they will provide considerable XP. Third, you assume that quest givers will be concentrated in a manner that makes your approach economical. You, along with everyone else on this forum, have pretty much no clue about what any of the quest and quest giver distribution, XP checkpoint rewards, quest design, etc., in the finished product will be like. You're arguing based on contrived scenarios and wild assumptions, and treating those as fact. It is as silly and useless as me arguing that combat XP is stupid because what if they give me ten billion XP for killing a Kobold? -
We can go in circles like this. You didn't tear it down either. My comes from common sense, you come from fanboy blindness. The time I been here, you are just an opposite of Helm. Another claim you can't substantiate, I see.

I find it odd that people are completely okay with a spider being able to petrify someone, but find the idea that it might be reversible completely insane(Even though it is reversible in the IE games...).

You get the same amount of XP no matter how you complete your quest. The XP checkpoints that are part of quests are necessarily activated by completing those quests. For instance, if you go straight to the cave, kill the Ogre, then talk to the farmer, you get the same XP as if you talk to the farmer, then go to the Cave and deal with the Ogre. The cave XP checkpoint must necessarily be broken, so if it isn't flagged when the quest is completed, you'll still get that XP. There are plenty of contrived situations being described in previous posts, which have very little to do with the XP system, rely on the quests being designed by mentally challenged Koalas, and completely ignore similar circumstances in the IE games. -

You're not going to get your combat XP, Cowboy. -
No, your point doesn't still stand. You've simply reiterated your opinion without actually substantiating it.

For those people it will be extremely simple, archangel. It's just those stuck in the DnD mindset who have trouble comprehending this. MIGHT perfectly encapsulates what the attribute does, while having a name that fits with the setting. Whoever your character is, increasing that attribute makes them mightier. I think the least descriptive attribute is PERCEPTION, as it implies something that is maybe not well represented its mechanics(But changes are incoming, so there's little point in fretting until we know what those changes are). MIGHT, on the other hand, is a mighty fine attribute.

Fun and balance are not mutually exclusive, just as fun and imbalance are not inherently inclusive. Terms such as "balance" and "viable" have been warped so much by the doomsayers on this forum that it is essentially impossible to have a reasonable discussion on this subject. You engage in it yourself here; im/balance has nothing to do with different play experiences. It is simply a conflation you make so that those who argue the opposite will seem to argue against varied play experiences. No, instead of setting up this "Fun or Balance" strawman, how about you show that they are even related at all?

The game does not force you to fight everything outside of town. I also have no idea what relevance that D3 example has. -
In short, yes. I think there are a couple of basic errors in judgment for people who do not consider it to be a spiritual successor. First of all, they often focus on a single game(Generally BG2). Secondly, they criticize PoEt for deviating too much from the IE games, when those games themselves were often extremely divergent in both the mechanical underpinnings, as well as the gameplay itself. People just get so caught up on a single detail, or base their opinions on things that will obviously change during the beta, and just ignore everything but that one thing.

Stun, do you really believe he just bases his decisions on watching LPs? Do you think that's how he got to his position? Do you think that's how he justifies his design to his boss? Are you kidding me?
