  1. Last word on twitter was $140,099 an hour ago, so YES!
  2. *Wakes up in Australia, checks kickstarter* *blinks* Holy mother of god! :aiee:
  3. Well, I missed whatever happened that inspired this thread and haven't noticed anything beyond the usual heated arguments about people's ideal visions of cRPG heaven. However, I like that this thread seeks to prevent any irrational entitlement within the order, though I'm not sure that this is potentially much of a problem. My understanding of the order is that we 'donate' a little extra to show our love and support for Obsidian, because they are doing something special and we want to help make Eternity as good as it can be. The custom titles are just a bit of fun and are not the reason why I donated extra, and I would argue, should not be the primary reason why anyone joins the order. We should expect nothing from Obsidian because a gift is not freely given if something is expected in return. It is then no longer a gift and becomes a purchase. I do not think that we should be 'buying' a forum title, but rather pledging extra purely out of love for a group of people (company) that is putting their heart and SOUL into a cRPG that has the potential to be something very, very special. And I, through the order, pledge more than I have to because I want to put my heart and soul into Eternity too. Likewise for any in-game acknowledgement of the order. It cannot be expected lest it becomes just another backer reward and the order loses its soul. The order was founded out of love to make some extra dosh for the game. I think Obsidian recognises this, which is why they are considering some in-game reference to the order. I feel that this is fitting, yet it would matter not at all to me if this were not to happen. I am proud to be a member of the order because I give $8 of unconditional support, love and encouragement to Obsidian for making my cRPG dream come true, whatever that may turn out to be.
  4. I think so. Any dramas should get sorted out in the survey so I wouldn't worry.
  5. I'm pretty sure Obsidian will release it when it's ready, and not before. There's no publisher hassling them to rush it out the door. They know that fans will happily wait if needed.
  6. I don't have an opinion on whether Obsidian should hire him, but I will say this... Brent obviously has integrity and passion, so he'd fit right in. Actually it would be kinda cool, a sense of justice perhaps.
  7. ^ And this made me laugh It's a pleasure to meet you too! I think we are all philosophers, some of us just aren't aware of it... As far as I'm concerned, this game getting made is Love and Happiness goal achieved!
  8. Reading this made me smile. Me too. Oh I am having a nice day. I'm having a great day, a wonderful day. This is just so freakin' awesome!!
  9. Thanks heaps for doing this Loranc. Wow, I'm really feeling the tension building, I'm amazed at how excited I am Project Eternity has captured my imagination and heart. A 2nd big city would just be the best icing for this cake. Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed!
  10. Thank you so much Obsidian!!! This project feels like a dream come true. I simply love the infinity style games, yet thought they were pretty much extinct. You have, as if by magic, raised them from the dead... and from all appearances (early as it is) it looks like you'll not only do justice to the classics, but will create something truly memorable and magical in its own right. It just feels so great to be a part of this, helping make Eternity happen! Being able to back the game is a privilege. Not to mention rewarding Thank YOU, and thank you to all the backers
  11. I'm ok now.. *Picks self up off floor* It's just that... player stronghold.. tantalising lore... almanac/lorebook... OMG 2nd City!!!.. so many classes and companions.. the promise of deep, rich story....MegaDungeon!... a developer team oozing talent... Infinity games nostalgia....freedom from publishers.... That Screenshot!!... a proper expansion.. an Adventurer's Hall....expert modes with lots of options... a novella by Chris Avellone... a new, rich, artistically free IP/world to explore, that we have helped create... that screenshot!!!......Project Eternity is just dripping with promise and potential.... *collapses on floor again'* Squeeee! A second city would be...... we must do this!
  12. *Already loving Eternity and super excited. Reads update and sees screenshot* I.. I just... ga...ba...I...ah...waa.....squee squeee squeee *Collapses on floor in a seizure of gaming ecstasy*
  13. You make a good point. I guess I wasn't thinking that $8 was out of anyone's reach (I myself don't have much money), but of course every dollar can matter. I humbly withdraw my previous suggestion. This kickstarter is first and foremost about the love of cRPGs, of Project Eternity, and we should all feel proud and excited to be part of helping such a great thing happen, regardless of our means. P.S. I voted for "I don't want to make my pledge public'. I hear what you're saying.
  14. Couldn't agree more. I didn't vote because I think the question creates a false dichotomy, as I think the OP intended ;-) I get that the question opens up an interesting dialogue about the relative merits and relationship between story and setting, but voting would always feel like a limited response for me. The story informs and creates my experience of the world, and the world informs and creates my experience of the story. If a game has an amazingly detailed world yet mediocre story, I'm not as able to engage in the world. If a game has a brilliant plot yet mediocre world, I'm not as able to engage in the plot. In a novel (as in CRPGs, though less so), the story is the world. A story needs a setting. Which is more important? My brain hurts, I want to 'live' the story.
  15. ^ Where else would we post? I would have thought this falls under the category of 'general discussion', and we have been discussing potential game content. Is the issue for you that the Obsidian Order is taking up too much space in the first page of threads? Granted, I did revive a dormant thread, but I thought it ok to express my thoughts in the relevant thread regardless. Maybe this topic could be merged with the main 'the order wants you' thread if people do want to continue discussing it. Anyway, I wouldn't worry. The thread will fall back if no one's interested in it. I just wanted to share my idea.
  16. I don't expect or need anything in return, it's a gift of support. I don't care about merchandise. However, if Obsidian are considering some sort of in game cameo to show their appreciation (which I have to say would be pretty damn awesome), I'd prefer some sort of subtly done humorous easter egg. Hearing about the 'Obsidian Order' could be quite immersion breaking if not done tactfully. I'm imagining something like the 'hidden' graveyard in Haven (Dragon Age), whereby all the members names could be listed if you click on the graves. Though I guess doing something like this might not work for hundreds of members. Maybe you could come across a bunch of statues/sculptures in some forgotten temple. As you progress through the temple/dungeon/whatever you discover more of these sculptures and clicking on each of them reveals a bunch of names and reveals more lore about the Order, thus telling a humorous, tongue in cheek story about the order and mentioning everybody by their order title. That could be a really nice personal touch. I'd sure get a kick out of seeing my order name in an easter egg. The only problem I can see with this is that some people may have donated extra without wanting or choosing a title. Maybe a reference to the 'unnamed ones' whose secret work was so integral to the order? Anywho, lots of possibilities. Just my two cents.
  17. From Adam Brennecke here: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/60900-are-paypal-donations-to-be-counted-on-kickstarter-page/ "We will be keeping everyone updated on the number of donations, and the amount of money donated through PayPal. The numbers will contribute to The Endless Paths Mega Dungeon size and to the stretch goals. So far it looks like we are going to manually update the numbers, and the team is going to be looking at ways of presenting this in the next day or two." Thanks for letting us know Adam
