PRE-LOAD is now available!
Osvir replied to Slish's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm super hyped :D But if there is any proof to any of these comments on either Steam or here then I am simply *shrug* this is just pre-load. I also don't jump to conclusions so fast, these are just comments. Sensitive kickstarter backers are an easy pick for anyone who wants to rile anything up EDIT: Someone said it the best on the Steam discussion though "You are getting a locked box and won't be able to open it in 2 days regardless". -
I'm game. Hard+Trial of Iron on my first game it is then I'm fairly comfortable on the Hard difficulty anyways, and I wouldn't mind starting over if I fail hard halfway through the game xD EDIT: From my BB experience, Path of the Damned can get really rough and it can start with tons of excitement only to end in miserable "fail".

Engagement Mechanics- Problems and Solutions
Osvir replied to Namutree's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I took a glimpse back in time. That is 5 months after the Kickstarter ended. Here's the thread: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/63432-update-44-the-rules-of-melee-engagement/ For those of you interested in research/history of the engagement system. -
Hm, when you put it that way Cantousent. It's well.. I would've loved to have a copy in my hands right now, and just skipped past everyone because of some perceived entitlement "I've been invested here long enough". Longer than many of you, and shorter than many of you. Am I more priveleged to get my copy earlier than those who haven't invested as much time? No. It wouldn't feel right for me, do I feel you are entitled to have it before me? No. We share the same wait now, guys and gals. I'd rather stand equal with ya'll, on board the hype train :D Maybe for those far above my funding, those who funded perhaps ($1'000s or $10'000s even), and I would be okay with that. Massive kudos <3 to everyone And as far as I know and have known long before this Kickstarter, is that press copies are delivered to reviewers or "markets" where they hit their demographic. "Marketing". Kind of like "networking", but publically and commercially. This time you just got to see behind the doors a couple of days earlier than you usually do. It is a public and transparent "Disclaimer" = "We are working with these guys", just like gamers of GG asked for, ethical journalism, telling us "This is how it works". It is honest, if anything. Anyone else? What have you seen during this Kickstarter of the inner workings of a development studio developing a game, and what sorts of processes they went through and how hard they have worked to achieve this far? How would I like to see it in the future? Clarified Tier ("will get a couple of days before release" sounds like it could be an attractive tier for streamers, reviewers) in Kickstarter maybe, limited amount? Or getting above a certain tier. That could prevent some of the later understandings and communications too. Though, having some 60 people try and feel the game before release is good feedback for Obsidian and us in the Community as well. It's like Ferrari "last pit stop" check before shipping out on the track. Then it's also good to have some early "inspectors", and people spreading the word about it. "It looks safe!" you know.

Edit that out Flow. (No spoilers). I gave this thread the wrong title. It should've been Message to Twitch Users: Change your Passwords or something similar. The news article is in the first post. I suggest you read it if you logged in today to watch streams and if you use the same password on Twitch as you do somewhere else.

According to this, there are 52 people playing Pillars of Eternity right now. A pox on them and their unbelievable good fortunes. *shrug* I'm happy for their sake. I'm getting my copy in 3 days it's also been on the table that reviewers and streamers would get it before the majority for a long time. It's something like 0.25% of all backers (1/400th of you), and it is beneficial for the product, just as beneficial as it was that we got Backer Beta (Pay-2-Beta). It aided in the manufacturing, in tightening many screws, framing it, and making it delivery ready. This is just part of the (exciting) process (imo). The 26th can't come soon enough :D

For the title question: If I make up custom names, I usually do that in the moment. Look at the portrait, appearance, personality, and voice, ponder a bit "Does this sound like a Kalwhain? Or is it a Bloflof?". Word- and name scambling basically. It's just gibberish in its own context, but combined with appearance, portrait, and sound etc. it usually makes sense aesthetically.

Player character clinic.
Osvir replied to Karranthain's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Can I ask for some advice too? I have the idea pretty set for the character (Orlan, Barbarian, Philosopher/Iximatil Plains). Going to be more of a smarty, not very good in combat, dude with some anger issues (Greater Frenzy = +6 Might and +6 Constitution ). I don't know if I should put my MIG and CON all the way down to 4 and put as much into INT, DEX, PER and RES. Or if I should keep MIG and CON up at 8. As Frenzy is Per Encounter, with 4 MIG and 4 CON I'd get it up to 10 MIG and 10 CON when need be. Or up to 14 MIG and 14 CON if I put it at 8. Basically, would 4 MIG and 4 CON be too low? (He is a small little Orlan after all) Advice? Can you do lots of interrupts even if you have close to zero damage output? EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out- 48 replies

COOL IT! *eye twitch* EDIT: ... I have faith... just... 3.. more... days.... O_O -
Thanks for the answers and clarity Brandon, I'm sure lots of people find it helpful. I've already decided to not check any of it until later. I view streams and reviews an important part of the process, and want to see others reactions and how it is received. But first I need my non-influenced for myself. On a different note: HYPED! O_O

I hope that the reviewers go the route of "first look" and "first impression" sort of non-spoiler route, and then they can push out an analysis/in-depth review later. Some reviews tend to be spoiler-y and very telling "You start in this world with a caravan and then blah di blah di blah and then you experience a [insert event] and blah di blah and then stronghold and blah di blah you meet companion who blah di blah" and so on and forth. Some reviewers reference a lot to stuff happening in the game, and I mean, why shouldn't they? But, it can become very spoiler-y... If they have spoilers they need to have massive tag: "WARNING WARNING WARNING!!!!! EO EO EO EO! SIRENS SIRENS SIRENS!!! SPOILERS"

Will the forum be spoiler safe?
Osvir replied to Marky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
^That. I'm going to play the game for a couple of hours, then leave my first impressions, then I'll disappear for a while. -
It is okay by me, I don't need to know. But it might be good for Obsidian to know if their tutorial is helpful or not. I'm sure hope the reviewers who have a first experience/first look with the game are giving their feedback on it. Jason Scheier seems to have managed to get to the Stronghold though, then again, I don't know if he or any of the reviewers (frankly) has played the Backer Beta or not.
