  1. I like this general thought pattern going on here. I can only nod All in due time I'm sure. Hmm... well, people are curious about the resources in Project: Eternity (Economy & Magic) and Tim Cain said they might do one more Q&A *shrug* http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/61130-update-16-reward-updates-combat-with-tim-mods-and-the-mega-dungeon-grows/page__st__40?do=findComment&comment=1226519 We'll see. Obsidian's own resource's bidding, they'd take all of our ideas and put on one sandwich and we could watch the chaos unfold xD
  2. What about the goods? The positive? Recalling what I felt at release/first time playing: * Nerdgasm * Captivating Story * Great Origin's Concept * Deep Roads * Quests * Controls * Banters at Camp as well as mid-game (out on the field) * Circle of Magi * Tactical controls * Character creation Now I did it the other way around, I played Dragon Age: Origins before I played Baldur's Gate. This being said.. What I do not like, looking back today after playing Baldur's Gate and several other factors (Dragon Age 2 included, although I did enjoy it as far as I played. I only finished Act 1, I've heard that all hell breaks loose after that). As well as influence from friends, forums, reviews etc. etc. the power of hindsight: * Flashy magic * Taken into consideration, it was a bit chunky * Few enemies (only one set) * Smaller world and shorter story than I expected * Restricted and limited * Hack n' Slash * Lord of the Dragon Age? * I can buy my companions with gift? * Like we say in League of Legends: "Easy.."
  3. This is great :D I didn't even think about it! The thing is, Tim Cain said in the latest update that the system they are considering would involve your lower level spells getting unlimited. Scaling with your level too, so at a start everything should be limited (as you are suggesting), but more and more of the lower level spells get unlimited as you level up. Level 1 spells, Level 2 spells and so on. Higher tier spells, I'm guessing from 5+, would always be limited. What I meant with the Original Post and this Poll is a completely limited Spell Gameplay, where your lower tier spells do not become unlimited but they stay limited throughout the entirety of the game. edited: clarification
  4. Right? :D Respectful, I agree. I trust Obsidian, and I have faith in them I realized when I posted this that "Will this be asking for too much influence or will it be seen for what it is a speculation/solution thread? Hm... oh well idc, people will be people and access their own belief's" *post* The thing I reacted to was just the "Unlimited" that Tim Cain spoke of, and realized instantly that: A, This community is bipolar. B, By suggesting/posting this I am looking for a solution/idea wherein those who want more "Limited" are included. I am one of them. C, I also fancy this idea with "Unlimited" low tier spells A LOT, and it also appeals to me. D, I love innovations. E, I guess I'm bipolar too?
  5. Not shameful I appreciate it, thanks :D keeps me, personally, up to date where you get your ideas from and can discuss more openly and understandingly with you.
  6. Right. Watch the Update #16 video. They are talking about low tier spells being unlimited, and higher tier spells being limited. So the mechanic how spells being limited is considered. If this is the case, the mechanic to make "Unlimited" lower tier spells should be fairly simple to change to "Limited" (1's and 0's?). How are those resources returned for those Higher level spells, as explained by Obsidian themselves? I don't know, we can only speculate (See "2nd" in this post). 1st, More Information: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/61129-reddit-qa-part-2-with-tim-cain/ 2nd: Speculation: I find this idea as most tempting (and I believe it is likely that it is considered as well), I don't know about you but with what Obsidian has told us thus far, this seems to fit in best with the Soul: Meaning: There could be bad consequences casting Magic, for your Mage. Speculation, further: If over-extending, casting too much Magic, could the Mage even loose health? Gain "Soul Sickness" or something I don't know.
  7. Hailing from, and inspired by, this thread: http://forums.obsidi...s-limited-ammo/ Although with another take. In the latest update, lower level tiers of Magic could be unlimited, scaling as you level up and become stronger (Obsidian say they haven't decided yet so don't jump to quick conclusions), but if they would choose this approach. http://forums.obsidi...-dungeon-grows/ What would limiting Magic cause to the gameplay? For those who want the more Old School approach, where practically nothing is unlimited. Personally I am kind of curious and excited to this system Tim Cain is presenting, and I'm eager to see it in action (it sounds great), but at the same time I feel like I want to be "Safe", something I can fall back on that I'm familiar with (I just like to be pre-catious). Thoughts? :D
  8. @Kaz: Great idea/speculation/suggestion ;D Avellone said something about "Souls traveling from being to being", this sound like the real deal. Fits very nicely with this too:
  9. Huh, that's pretty cool and sensible as well. If a Ranger is more "Forest-smart" a Rogue would be the equivalent "City-smart". It would give the Rogue yet another interesting game device... however, combining the Forest+City-smartness into one Ability would be more effective? I also like the eavesdrop thing, but that sounds more like a once-rarely-in-a-while Quest related thing: "Your mission is to infiltrate this Mansion and find information, there is also going to be secret meeting". Hide in Shadows would suffice I think. I wouldn't need a button and/or ability to "eavesdrop" per say. I could just place my character in Stealth mode in the shadows in the same room as the secret meeting is going on. Also: http://eternitywiki.com/Rogue And more here: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/61045-the-role-of-rogues/
  10. I won't lie. A certain Pulp Fiction scene comes to mind. Berserk is a great example I s'pose (one of the best Manga's out there). - Spoiler below - If you know what I'm talking about I'll just say before the Eclipse.
  11. I can think of several different ones; * Enslaved Hill Giant * Mule/Donkey * Horse * Knave * Cow * Mountain Goat (I think they are larger) * Boar * Basilisk? * Worg's? * Lore-creatures-I-don't-know-the-name-of? I remember a thread on "Mounts" (never read it, only saw it in the Forums). Could a Pack Mule and a Mount be combined into one? Now, I wouldn't be using my Knave as a mount, but some options could be combined (Horse as an example). I can see them giving different benefits too. The Giant can't enter dungeons, can carry a fair bit, can Guard himself (without risk of loosing any gear). The Knave can enter dungeons, is slow, can carry a fair bit more than the PC but not as much as the Horse or the Giant. The Donkey/Mule can carry the most, can't enter dungeons, but is easily targeted by Bandits when you enter a dungeon. The Horse is fast, mountable, can't enter dungeons, can carry a fair bit, easily targeted by Bandits when you enter a dungeon.
  12. Well... if the Rogue would be Utility at it's best... a Smoke Bomb could easily fix that (Distract -> Hide).
  13. This I like. Best suggestion so far imo. It kind of sounds awfully authentic too. Someone drawing powers from the soul, should affect the soul too, no? If I have 100% Soul I would be at my prime, but casting a spell that drains 25% of my Soul I should feel the effects of it, kind of like surging your own power/strength. If the Soul is tied to some sort of "Life force", then this would mean that "Magic isn't cast without consequences"? EDIT: "Peter, with great power, comes great responsibility" xD I couldn't help myself
  14. Humm, I'm thinking about crystals as a monetary. Gold/Silver/Bronze is fine by me, I'm just flirting with the thought of various other methods even if I would prefer the standard G/S/B. I like rocks, Quartz, Diamonds, Tiger's Eye, Aquamarine and so on and so forth and have done some research into it as well (minor, minor, research). On the superstitious side of the world, there exists people that believe rocks to have different types of energy emitting from themselves *shrug* I don't know, I just thought it could fit in with the whole "Soul" business xD Talking about rocks, I remember fondly Baldur's Gate having lots of rocks. One of them had the description that "Bestows luck on the carrier", I took this as simply a role-playing feature (and I'm sure that there never was anything mechanical about it at all) and I hoarded all I could find keeping them on my character only for role-playing purposes. But seeing as this is a fantasy setting, with some spiritualistic mumbo-jumbo (which I don't mind at all) a la the fancy Soul... could these rather ordinary rocks give benefits? Why did so many creatures drop these rocks? It felt more like the rocks were another form of "gold". Most Human foes in Baldur's Gate dropped money, but all the creature humanoids (Gnolls, Xvartz etc.) dropped gems, rocks, but practically it was the same thing as gold (you just had to sell it) right?
  15. Same. EDIT: My computer did freeze after I posted the previous post though. An omen? I can't really wrap my head around it. Philosophically yes (lore, I can think of lots of stuff), but mechanically? I'm at a loss. My preference, or what I would like to see, is an improved Magic system akin to that of the Sorcerer in Baldur's Gate for all Magic/Mage's. But apart from that, how does the Soul tie in? What is the purpose of the soul? "What is the meaning of life!?" xD haha Someone mentioned something about "sickness" if casting spells/using abilities (an idea from one of the forum posters here). If you draw on power's of your own Soul, you would be at a disadvantage. I kind of like that idea. P.S. For the heck of it (and I don't really want to start anything), I really don't prefer Dragon Age: Origins over Baldur's Gate. I prefer good games (separating them, not comparing them with each other, I feel that both games are great. I had so much fun with DA:O, I had so much fun with BG too).
  16. Yes. Well, the problem I believe is that even an academic informational discussion could possibly turn into a firestarter too. Faith is kind of like "Dragon Age: Origins" or "Baldur's Gate". Some prefer to pray in their way, some in another way. If I would say I prefer Dragon Age: Origins over Baldur's Gate I'm sure... something... would happen? I guess.. it's a good example (and demonstration?).....? *waits for it*
  17. To respond to several comments: I do enjoy Candlekeep, I do have several saves past Candlekeep with several characters and classes. Candlekeep has a special place in my heart It doesn't take long to get to Gorion and be off, it doesn't take long to do all the quests. It would just be nice to see a skip function, in whatever way it'll be implemented.
  18. Eeeeh, want to discuss, feel I shouldn't discuss, I'll just say "Not interested in discussing Religion"... In some weird way I want to ask Obsidian Forums (Moderators/Developers w/e) for permission to talk about Religion here xD can I? (I'm non-religious so don't expect me being a Missionary of any sort... the topic of real life Religion could benefit thoughts on Souls in the game). EDIT: More importantly, out of respect for those that might be religious, I want to ask you
  19. This link I'm posting might get merged with this. Other: I love candlekeep... but: http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/61123-i-love-candlekeep-but/
  20. I agree Let me explain though, the modders made this feature in Baldur's Gate to function from a roleplaying perspective kind of. A guard comes up to you and asks you if you want to go to Gorion directly and he'll escort you. He'll give you some money and a potion, and a lynx eye gem that you can sell to Winthrop. Then you go into the Inn, buy and sell all you need, leave the inn and the Guard comes up to you again. At this point you can tell him to sod off (basically, in a kinder gentler way) and do all the quests anyways, or you can ask him to escort you to Gorion (which proceeds with the game). You can also talk to him again, without entering the Inn, to trigger this conversation. I don't know, it's just a nice way of skipping the tutorial (whilst being in the in-game interface).
  21. Do I need say more? The prologue area was rather lengthy and tedious when replaying. I loved it, but it haunted me. "I want to play Baldur's Gate! :D" *starts Baldur's Gate* "Oh right.. Candlekeep mumble mumble" *glad there is mods and starts anyways* But there was a time before the mods! Thoughts? How many times have you played Candlekeep? I understand that Candlekeep is a tutorial area, and I liked it to a start... but after making my 14th Character or so~, still trying to learn the game and the Classes and the Magic and the system and the rules (I was such a noob, still am in a sense)... I kind of tired of it eventually. One magical mod let me skip Candlekeep entirely and get the same rewards from doing everything (with a small penalty I believe, I didn't get all the gold I would've gotten if I would've done all the quests. I liked that). Being able to skip the prologue at a penalty. Could this be a potential feature?
  22. Endure my friend, endure. You are just 231 left-clicks away from the magic. On Turn-Based, I love it too. Disgaea is one of my favorite games~ Nippon Ichi <3 Heroes of Might & Magic too, as well as other Turn-Based games (Temple of Elemental Evil, one of them and it works really well in it). I wouldn't mind seeing more of the Temple of Elemental Evil system... this makes me curious as if it is possible (granted resources are enough) if some sort of Temple of Elemental Evil-ish system Option can be dropped/coded into or on top of the real time option somehow. I wouldn't know, I'm no programmer. Just curious.
  23. Although I agree with you mostly on the economical aspects, I still flirt with the thought/dream myself; "But what if I can be innovative enough to make it work?", not necessarily something that I expect either will work or want to try. "How far does the boundaries go?" kind of thing, to what one could do with modern technology. Just for instance, imagine playing Baldur's Gate with League of Legends controls in a way you would want Baldur's Gate to be played with League of Legends controls. I'm pretty sure that you and I could get to a similar conclusion, seeing as we enjoy the same games lots Can you apply modern to classic? If the original idea is great, but the technology at that era is not as... modern... as today's era, could you not apply said modern mechanics that do work and apply to, said, older~ technology?
