  1. Regenerating stamina. Unfortunately. In case anyone was wondering what hyperbole meant. *Journal updated* *You gained 100 experience* Hyperbole From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  2. The time is what I disagree with. But it depends on what level of inclusion: I chose not to reply because I just don't agree that you have to sacrifice one thing for the other. A bit hard headed on this subject. I think at this point they actually have more money than what they need to make the game they promised us on the Kick starter, that's why I don't conclude that anything has to be lost, because I honestly believe they are over by at least 1 million dollars for the budget of the game. (Keep in mind that they have no engine to build, and very few things to build from the ground up.) I could be wrong about this, I don't make the argument that my estimation is without flaw, but I just truly believe they won't have to sacrifice anything to add romance to the game. (With that being said they should only add it if it fits the characters, and it shouldn't be a forced add.)
  3. I've been saying it from the start the type of romance I would love to see would be the type that was found in PS:T, and several people even those were against romance agreed that this would be fine. So I totally agree that if the romance doesn't fit the character or the story than I don't want it forced in there, however I know that this opinion is not shared.
  4. Hyperbole. Helps people ignoring the message You do know that the Obsidian guys included romance and flirting in crpgs before Bioware did? Hyperbole is fun! Also, my referencing Bioware as an example of poorly implemented crpg romances does not invalidate the remaining portions of my statement. I could have replaced that with early Obsidian games. While not as egregiously painful, I still felt that they added nothing to the respective games. Fallout NV was done well in that npcs were given depth (including in some cases romantic preferences - Gannon, etc) but the player character didn't walk around trying to play house in the mojave. You never tried to play house in the other IE crpgs either.... and their characters were far more in depth than the ones that were in Fallout New Vegas, in fact PS:T had by far some of the best characters and lore ever found in a crpg to date. So once again.... i'm not following. First of all, assuming that I "don't read books" because I don't read romance novels in just about the strangest straw-man I've ever seen. My level of literacy or preference of reading is totally irrelevant. Besides, romance novels are pretty much the lowest form of fiction created. 50 shades of gray anyone? A more apt comparison to including romancable party characters would be a "choose your own adventure:romance novel edition." "bite her lip, turn to page 12. Hide in her backyard and watch her sleep, turn to page 20". If Obsidian wants to write npcs that have scripted relationships like New Vegas, more power to them. What I'm arguing is that there is no need to include paper dolls that my player characters can "choose your own adventure" through a creepy courtship process. The main issue with your whole argument is that everything you have stated thus far has not been in PS:T or BG2. All of your issues with romance in crpg seems to stem from other games, because nothing you have written is comparable to either of those games.
  5. I have the four concept arts as my current background, I also would have loved to see some more art. I'm hoping that there first big update will include a plethora of screen shots for us to gasp and drool over.
  6. I feel so bad for Shaker at this rate they'll be lucky to hit 500,000 by the end they've been in the 200,000's for the past like 4-5 days.
  7. That is your prerogative. You'll probably find a lot of people around here who really liked Planescape: Torment, not at least because of its characters and their relationship with the Nameless One. I liked PST as well. I'm simply providing my stance on the thread topic. I've done it without directly insulting individual posters and with a dash of swarthy pirate lust. It was your first post, there have been 'several' romance thread posts to date. Curious as to why you randomly decided to start posting on this thread and only this thread.

  9. Really upset that the gamestop deal for the D&D ultimate pack was no longer 18 dollars, oh well it was well worth the 44 dollars I spent. The online play is actually a lot better now than it use to be, unfortunately it had such a rough start that hardly anyone plays it online. After starting it back up and playing it again for the first time in a long time, some of the things I really enjoyed was the camera controls. The three different camers modes they had exploration, strategy, can't recall the third one. And how you can distinctively adjust how each different mode worked in the options menu. This is something I would like them to keep in PE.
  10. This is not a killing simulator. If they want killing between npcs or salty pirates away on the high seas for long months, well that's one thing. But the last thing PE needs is to degenerate into an adolescent vehicle aiming to satisfy murderers who want their player characters to kill people. Just join your countries army. This is how you sound. Whoa, I don't even know where to begin with this. First of all, as the Obsidian dnd game shows, pirate violence is awesome. Combat is central to Infinity engine crpgs as a method of problem solving. Other methods include dialogue or stealth. Having two of your party members bat eyelashes and sleep together hardly provides a way to advance the plot or solve various issues in the world. I've never experienced this in an IE game, so i'm really afraid I have no idea what you're talking about. The romance in the other IE crpgs was not forced or thrown upon you, so what exactly are you talking about? If you're still comparing this to Bioware games than i'm afraid you are in the wrong forum.
  11. They have to pay salaries to the dev team and calculate how much they can spend on any given thing, and because they still have pretty damn small budget (just about 3-3,5 million) they probably have to calculate very carefully how much they can spend on writing companions and dialogue. If they have (this is just rough example) say...4 weeks to writen companion, and if they write romance to the companion, it's away from anything else they write to them (such as friendship, their potential quest, their reactions to what's happening etc). I'm telling you that this information is incorrect. It doesn't in any way take away from the other companions, their original budget for the whole game they were going to make was 1.1 million. That's it, therefore anything else that's added is really just 'fan service' for us. But as far as the core of the game goes, nothing is going to be hampered or impaired by adding this.
  12. I think you are heavily misinformed about the difference between romance and a dating simulator. If you truly believe that adding romance degenerates a game into being an adolescent vehicle, than it's fair to say that you've never played PS;T or BG2, probably any of the IE engine games and have been playing Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Specially seeing as you referenced bio ware specifically. Also, you probably don't read books. Something that has been around long before you or I have been. One type of book that tends to sell more than others are romance novels, why? Because it's what people enjoy, who reads said books? I can tell you that they wouldn't enjoy a JRPG dating simulation. You're comparing two things that are completely different from one another, based on bad factual information. Which is apparent in your entire comment. Romance has been around a very long time, movies, books, theater, for many a years. I'd expect the same level of romance to be in a video game. 'Just because bio ware did it bad doesn't mean that Playboy is going to be writing the script for PE.' So to speak.
  13. I think everyone thought they did, but since it was fan funded by us I see no harm in critiquing something that we literally paid to make happen.
  14. By adding in romance there is nothing that would have to be sacrificed. There are no development constraints or publisher time frames. They have more than enough time to make this game wonderful. I don't understand the argument that if they added x they'd have to lose y, truth is there is no give/take here. They have the money, the time, and the means to add as much or as little as they want to this game.
  15. Hmm... I'm not really sure how I'd feel if Obsidian said 'Hey, look guys were really sorry but 'this' just doesn't fit into our project' whether for budget reasons or having to do with the world of PE in general. It's a very possible situation that could happen with PE or any game that is funded on Kick Starter.
  16. That is an excellent point, I completely forgot about the 'add on' incentives to increase money. One of the biggest jumps PE had was when they added on the Wasteland 2 and PE expansion add on. The 'exclusive' tiers also brought in a lot of money, the AMD one, and the troll both were completely sold out.
  17. Hmmm... you're insinuating that a game can't have the best of both. I'm a fan of the way characters have been done in PS:T and BG2, I believe that the newer games are focusing more on 'fan service' and cruddy dialogue than on the characters themselves. I believe that as long as PE stays on the course of PS:T dialogue-characters, it will be wonderful. A visual novel game so to speak, but with the action/game play of BG2&IWD2, what a terrific game that would be. That is how I envision PE anyways, i'm not talking about the mechanics so to speak, just a broad view. If you could take those three games and smash them together somehow... I would be a very happy man.
  18. A statement and not a question. Not trying to start a debate or argument, I'd simply like people's thoughts on this topic so that perchance the developers will see it and get a better idea of things that could have been better. After the excitement wore off, I started thinking to myself, there were a few things that had issues. With it being in the stages of being developed, and Obsidian trying their best to get as much information out as possible, I found that there were a lot of tug/pull with their answers. One developer would say something and then a day later he would say something contradictory to what he had said before. I felt this could have been handled better, because with all the jumping around on answers it makes it very difficult to get a 'feel' for what the game will ultimately be. Keeping in mind that we'll know within the next couple months, more of what the game will be like. I get the feeling that this was sort of a last ditch effort to try and save a dying genre of games, and I am thankful for the hail marry, I strongly believe that this game will be everything and more when it finally releases. Barring that in mind, I'm sure i'm not the only one with nit picks about how the Kick Starter was handled, and I'm sure a lot of us look at that 4,000,000 and think 'Damn that could have been 5 or 6 hell maybe even 7, if it had been done better.' Just to give the guys/gals over at Obsidian an idea of things that you thought were done poorly, as well as things you thought that were done extremely well. This way they can read positive criticism and be more thorough with their next big project. Which had better be PE2 . As a side note, something I thought that was done extremely well was the last couple of goals. The stronghold and the big big city were probably the two biggest key factors in my overly abundant donation towards the game. Without these two factors I probably would have only pledged 58 dollars (8 for the title), however with them being added in I increased 5x my donation to 288 dollars, which is a pretty significant increase based on those two stretch goals. Once again I'd like to state that this isn't a thread for flaming, I'd prefer not to see any at all actually. Just your criticism on the whole process from the start to the end. Whether it was the Ustreams, Q&A's, tier incentives, stretch goals, mega dungeon, specific answers they gave, things of that nature. No griping allowed here! Only criticism please.
  19. You know, that can be fulfilled perfectly with a deep friendship too. Why does that have to be romance exclusive? Seriously, that's a big reason why so many people dislike romances. They take all our close relationships and leave those of us who aren't interested in romances starving Yeah. Even in real life people can live without love. But it's not a good life, at least I think it isn't. Romantic love is not the only type of love that exists. It's the one that gets the most media representation, and the one that is most commonly asked for, but there are others that many times get ignored in its place. And that is a bad thing. Also, I'm fairly certain that people who identify as aromantic would highly disagree with you, on the whole "if you don't have (romantic) love you're not living life to the fullest". Not to mention that we're not talking about life, we're talking about a game. What if I, the player, am not interested in pursuing a videogame romance? Are you saying that my way to play the game is not a good one? Think you read too much into it, he said 'at least I think it isn't', stating that for him personally he prefers love and romance, he wasn't stating that anyone who doesn't prefer those things doesn't play the game right. I never got that impression from what he said at all.
  20. Basically from what i'm guessing is they've had this idea for a long time, this dream so to speak.. a dream to invent the best rpg ever created by taking elements from all the previous rpgs and combining them in a way that makes for a spectacular display. But, no publisher would back this dream, nobody cared about it and we were never given a voice because we didn't amount to being considered 'enough' of the gaming population. They see kick starter, suddenly that dream re-awakens, energy soars with excitement. Now the problem is will it work? Because, right now it's just ideas some on paper, most in their heads. It's just visualizations of what could be. They don't know and we won't know if it can work and if it will work well until they get the game developed to a point where we can test it. So really we took a huge gamble here, placing our bets all in on a 50/50 chance. I'm glad with the decision I made and I hope everyone else is as well. Obsidian will try to do their best to make not only their dreams come true but ours as well, the need for an rpg that sparks our excitement once more, reminds us why we love rpgs so much. Yeah it was a gamble, and we'll have to play the waiting game for some time to come, and nobody can make any promises or state with any certainty. All we can do is put our trust in the folks at Obsidian, hope that their dream and our dream of the ideal rpg will come to fruition.
  21. It is rather depressing isn't it? Here's the thing, though... it's usually closed as a result of someone finally taking the bait. Anytime a romance thread pops up, there's a crew of about a half-dozen regulars who come in and start calling people names (biodrones, promancers, "lonely basement dwellers with body pillows", whatever), start posting a lot of negativity, and then start making "serious suggestions" about raping dragons and such - all in an effort to poison the conversation, provoke strong reactions, and get the threads closed down. And they rarely get called to task. If it just remained people civilly discussing pro's and con's, or their personal preferences, these threads wouldn't be so long and the topic wouldn't be so heated. But for all the talk of "people coming over from BioWare" and "ruining things" - it's my fervent opinion that most of the problem from romances on the forums comes from the virulently anti-romance crowd. Well, and games are mostly to blame for that. I stated in an earlier post that they really have corrupted a person's way of thinking in resemblance to Hollywood. (being that they can't produce a movie without T&A being in it anymore.) Random shower scenes, pool scenes, things thrown in as eye candy because it gets more people to watch the movie. Well, ever since the first games started experimenting with how far they can take it, they saw the $$$ signs. Now it's become a cliche so to speak and a part of our gaming society. I agree that there are several different ways to express and convey emotion, but let me ask you this. If the romance did not include sex and was in no way intrusive or a major part of the storyline (meaning that you wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it) and done in a way that truly did enrich the character(s) it was implemented for, would it bother you to the point of still being 100% against it?
  22. This video was kinda annoying, seems like the guy who uploaded it took two songs and then merged them without giving any credits or info about the songs. Good songs though, first it plays the Romeo and Juliett theme by Nino Rota and then it plays Sad Romance by Thao Ngyuen. Yeah I was just bouncing around youtube listening to music and saw some violin music, never thought I'd care much for it until I stopped to listen to it. Thought to myself 'I listen to that all the time in video games'. And then I got hooked.
  23. Heh... Leliana was a red head, and I loved her voice. That is one voice over I actually enjoyed. However... stating it for the umpteenth time, could of done without the sex scenes.
  24. Yeah fully fanmade(I think ), theres even mode for adding this music to the game My god man... that is simply amazing. So much more better than the music skyrim offers, which I'm assuming is why it was made in the first place. I'm lovin it.
  25. ...... How come I've never heard this in Skyrim? Is that fan made or something?
