This makes a ton of sense to me. One thing I would be interested to know is if they're using the current Kickstarter funds of the expansion which they've confirmed. My guess is that since it is included in all tiers $165 and above that they are, however this seems like it would be a great place to direct funds once the Kickstarter officially ends. I still want more T-shirt designs . I mean I don't mind the current ones but I would LOVE a t-shirt with this on it, yeah I know... a little ridiculous. But my point still stands, there are plenty of ways to continue funding a project, selling items like hats/t-shirts/hoodies, really adds up over time. The only problem is getting them made/shipped etc cost money as well.

Countdown to Eternity.

They did a Q&A yesterday with pcgamer that i'm sure got a lot of interest as well. I think screenshots, lore, general information, and just answers will be what really boosts pledges at this point. A lot of people are hesitant to pledge or to pledge more because they don't know enough about the game yet. Right after that Q&A there was a huge spike in donations. So I'm hoping they continue with the live feeds, the Q&A's and the screenshots. -

Now we're talkin! That would definately be an awesome version of "quest markers". I was always sad when an NPC would point out on your map a quest destination as it meant very little to me because it wasn't visually displayed. I usually thought "I wish he/she would mark it". Getting a quest then having the npc mark where it is on your world map where they'd mark where it should be or circle an area to find whatever it is you are looking for along with some text written in as a distinctive note from the NPC itself would be pretty cool. Getting a quest from a drunk where his note is basically chicken scratch and almost illegible would be a nice touch. Want a clean map again? Just buy a new one from a nearby store. This right here! I would like a journal and map that updates with a character's understanding of what was said and pointed out. It should also be editable like BG2 so that I can add little 'next to the blacksmith, you fool' notes like someone mentioned earlier. As far as there being traditional quest markers like giant arrows and what not in the game, I think Malcador said it best. I love this idea!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it does. At least nasajpl has videos they streamed. http://www.ustream.tv/nasajpl/videos And it would be pretty stupid (from ustream POV) for not allowing recording and forcing users to upload their own streamed videos. So it must be some option. Adam commented on this during yesterday's and said that they would get the rest of the stream videos recorded for us from here on out.- 107 replies

I suspect the real issue here is the total number ordered and how much lead time it needs to ship on time with the game - this could easily be months before release so there would certainly be a point at which they would either have to cut off "new orders" and/or decide how many "extra pieces" they wanted to commit to in order to cover more orders after that date - but I agree that they are likely going to be uninterested in having a warehouse full of this sort of items "left over". They can keep Digital orders open forever though. But for the physical items yeah... i'm not sure how they're going to handle that.

I think everyone in general is good with that. One of the few games that really pissed people off with a later release was Guild Wars 2 and that's because their response to the question was 'when it's ready'. Good communication is always a plus and Obsidian has 'great' communication. I am so excited and thrilled for this game.

Countdown to Eternity.

Here we go another update, and sorry about the IWD2 live feed times they were a little off earlier. (Okay way off ) Looks like we've got 1 hour till Adam plays IWD2 visit the official forum link for more information http://forums.obsidi...cewind-dale-ii/ and a link to the stream http://www.ustream.t...ity-live-stream. So here's where we're at 2,961,043 a 10308 increase (without having the newest up to date paypal information). And we added another 119 backers bringing us to 61,130. Go us! We're almost to our 3 million goal and then from there it's onto 3.5! -
I guess the only downside of doing that is it might remove some of urgency that often leads to a surge in pledges as Kickstarters come to an end. Especially if they confirm that the reward tiers will stay exactly the same on the paypal site for a long period of time. That's understandable, but easily alleviated by saying the higher tiers would be removed--e.g. everything above level $80 or something (with physical add-ons still available). Or remove specific rewards, which can be tricky. Absent removal of actual tiers, then raising the Paypal prices would be easiest, I imagine. Edit: You're out of your mind if you believe that. Half the cost of games these days is to publishing and advertising. Which PE was able to skip over entirely by recruiting us with their kick starter website, and we do most of the advertising for them. His worry isn't about funding. It's about the project management timescale. The funding-content model we see on KS isn't a pure linear relationship--Obsidian most likely would hire more devs/artists horizontally to cover their bases and stay on track for the spring 2014 release. Personally, I wouldn't mind some delay into 2014, but it's generally a good idea to maintain a project plan right up to that point and then decide whether they need to push back or not. I see what you're saying and I have no issue with a later release. Even the BG EE was pushed back to the end of November. I thought he was implying that all the funds we'll have won't be enough to cover a larger scale game than BG. I think that if they keep the donations open after the kick starter ends we'll have around 6-10 million. The more of the game people see, the more the money starts to flow in.

I'm going ask Adam when his live show starts at 3pm eastern to give us another update on how Paypal is looking donation/backer wise. But we're looking really good and really strong right now, we're going to be around 3,050,000 by the end of today and we'll still have 10/14 10/15 and part of 10/16 yet to go.

Countdown to Eternity.
Loranc replied to Loranc's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Two hour update, with five hours to go till the live stream of Adam getting creamed on IWD2. We are up to 2,950,735 (keep in mind this includes yesterdays twitter account of paypal pledges). That's 11,483 gain in the past two hours. Putting us at 61,011 (again with the known backers from obsidians twitter from yesterday afternoon). We are now 49,265 away from our 3 million goal and 1489 backers away from the ninth level of our dungeon. They still haven't updated the 8th level from the 60,000 backer count, they said yesterday the man working on it was still in the process of drawing it. -
It works both ways. There are some people who want to donate and get that 5,000-10,000 tier item but can't afford it with the 1 month time frame they had. There was really no time to save up or generate money and 1 month sure as hell isn't enough time for people with families, etc. It is a slap in the face to people who donated right away, making sure to secure their rewards before they went away, but at the same time all that really matters is that this project gets as much funding as it possibly can. If keeping the donations open for a while after the kick starter has ended, i'm all for that. Myself being in the 250 tier bracket.

Speaking of Planescape...

According to what they were saying about a PST sequel, they specifically stated that the D&D element of it was too restricting and actually hurt the game. They said if they did a sequel.. oh what the hell here's the post.- 17 replies
