Large Paper Dolls and Rotation
mstark replied to agewisdom's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not a big deal, but if they do end up making highly detailed 3D models, and giving all different pieces of equipment unique looks, it'd be a real shame if we didn't have an opportunity to look at them up close. The inventory screen would be a great place for such a view In game zooming is highly over-rated. -
Big City #2- 3.5mil. stretch goal

it's at ~50-60k now, and I'd guess that we'll see between 5-10k added per day in the last few days. Someone else might be able to make a better estimate! -

^This. The goal is also great because I think we all realize how much we loved the great cities of the games we used to play... and that somewhere deep inside, we always wished we'd encounter a second big city! But the games used to end before that happened. On that note, I'd love for the second great city to be something you would discover towards the end of the game, unlocking the ability to disembark on a plethora of new adventures, at a higher difficulty level (making the higher level of intrigue of a developed Italian city state more realistic), or pursue the end of the story if you don't wish to be involved in the intrigues. ...makes me kind of think that I should stay away from PE updates until the game is released, happily unknowing about what the game will bring me... and when I stumble across a second big city, it'll be like a childhood dream come true . -
Sometimes, stories are made better by ignorance, if the storyteller is good enough (oh, and I used to live in Stockholm, great place )

Camera
mstark replied to ArcaneBoozery's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
You'll be happy to know there'll be no such thing as camera angles. Possibly limited zooming (for a better strategical overview of a battlefield), but that's it. -
Just found out about your songs, and listened to them several times over :D I like all of them, but Stealer of Souls has that extra little tease! It truly feels like it could be part of the PE universe... a superstitious story? Maybe you'd tell your child about the Stealer of Souls, if they don't behave?

Big City #2- 3.5mil. stretch goal

That would be amazing. I'm just thinking back to 2 years ago, when I spent a couple of weeks travelling around Tuscany by train... I didn't get to see Venice, but a lot of other places! I just love the idea of basing one of the races on Italian city states As long as there's water... and a big city Make that city-state both beautiful and deadly, with dangerous games played behind the scenes... I like how we're furiously discussing how exciting the SECOND big city might be, what about the first one? :D Edit, I completely and utterly agree with your sentiments. I thought it was already agreed that the first one would be amazing, no? The quote from Sawyer opens up for some good speculation about which race the first big city will "belong" to... it's "too early" to talk about the first city, but the second one might be Valian, or on the Pearl Coast!? I reckon that the first city will be in the Dyrwood. Hmm, reckon it'll be something Lothlorian/Suldanesselar-esque? It feels like a silly thing, but somehow I think I'd prefer a more familiar setting, a "normal" city, as my base of operations. Think Athkatla/BG. -

If we keep talking about it as if it's already reality, it'll have to come true -

I just love the idea of both! I mean, an Italian city state could of course also have a coast line, but it sounds like it's either/or... a city by the coast, or by water in general, has the opportunity to be a much richer environment. I suppose, if it's a big city, it must have access to water, in some way. If we're following real world rules. -

So Josh Sawyer just answered a question in the PC Gamer chat, quote here: Josh Sawyer: too early to talk about our first big city, sorry. but if we get the second big city funded, it will likely be very different from the first, possibly one of the vailian republics or a city on the pearl coast. So what would you prefer? An Italian renaissance inspired city, or a coastal one? I'm undecided! -
Justin Bell just stated in the chat with PC Gamer that the Morrowind score is one of his favorites... this made me cry a little from happiness. I fondly remember that game, it's music... and it being one of the last non-hand-holding cRPGs of our time. I remember turning my computer on, starting the game, and leaving it in the main menu just to listen to the theme over and over. What we've heard so far of PE's music is fantastic... I keep going back to listen to the released songs, the pauses, you know which ones I mean, are just epic.

Putting information on loading screens is not good for anyone who's got SSD drives. I'm just playing through BG2 again, on 4x RAID0 SSDs (700MB R/W). The area loading times are approximately 0.1 seconds, and there's no way in hell I have time to read any of the text on a loading screen (and installation took a whopping 10 seconds to extract all the files - last time I installed BG2, 10 years ago, it took 45min+ :D)

^This x 9999 I hope we aren't putting too high an expectation on Obsidian. Two Athkala sized cities... I haven't since these big sized included in an cRPG for a very long, long time.... (maybe never...) with all the associated quests, exploration and NPCs. $500k is a good estimate by Obsidian, if you think of it in the terms of hiring a new team division that's purely dedicated to making and integrating a second city. If you look at average salaries, divided by an 18 month employment period, that's a lot of people. -

imgur.com is your friend BTW, and I don't want to be rude, but what exactly is the purpose of this image? Seems to big to be used as a signature. Look at the name of the file, it's been resized to fit as a Facebook cover photo. Really liking it btw

Technically we arent buying anything from them. We are pledging money to them and they give us stuff as gifts. So they should be labeled as gifts. I definitely would like that considering my country's 25% tax rate and insane paper-trail prices. I've imported things a lot in the past, and the whole "gift" thing means nothing I'm afraid. You still pay the import tax (plus £10 handling fee to parcel force, if you're in the UK), unless your package magically passes through customs without anyone paying attention to it (that's happened, too).

Oh. My. God. I'm delirious. Pledge going from $20 to $160. This is the excuse I've been waiting for to get myself the Collectors Edition box. Stupid thing is I'll probably have to pay import tax on it, too, and that's money I could have given to Obsidian I really do wish we'll reach the $3.5kk goal! Will pledges after the kickstarter period, through PayPal, still count towards this goal?
