Analysis of Meta-Game [Abilities/Spells]
dunehunter replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Did you miss two weapon style? -
I remembered I did it with a solo pale elf Darcozzi Paladin, but it was looooooonnnng time ago. Basically just use Flame shield and pike. Block all enemy on bridge. The key is don’t attack the enemy in front of you. But use pike to kill the toughest enemy behind first. Same trick to kill the wolves on the 3rd map...

What do you think about Deflection?
dunehunter replied to MaxQuest's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Vanilla Rogues have raw DoT to deal with penetration (same goes for Rangers, Druids, Conjurors...). Non-devoted fighters have upgraded Into the Fray (-10 AR)... and if you're 1 low there's the Mace modal. And Empower. Aren't Wounding shot's DoT damage based on the damage you inflict? So if you cannot penetrate enemy armor, your raw DoT will be negligible. Same as Deep wound of rogue. -
Analysis of Meta-Game [Abilities/Spells]
dunehunter replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Ok Then my opinion on these abilities are: Lay on hands feels ok to me, since in PoE 2 healing is more important than in PoE 1, the heal amount is pretty good if u have high Res. Zealot charge is ok because the speed of characters are nerfed in last patch. Glorious beacon is currently a crap ability, I believe anyone who picked it once will never pick it again. My suggestion is making it a Blinding aura, give it like 10 second duration and blind enemy around every 3 second. Aegis of Loyalty should be turned to PoE 1 style, but perhaps devs think the Aegis + Sacred Immolation combo is too OP? No idea here. I like Inspired Path, for classes with limited power resource, +1 power is good. -
Analysis of Meta-Game [Abilities/Spells]

I remember Liberating exhortation can be target self in PoE 1, but now it's ally only But I think it is too earlier to balance class abilities. -
It's not a problem if some stat is dump for a BUILD. It would be if it were for a class. Ranged glass cannons not getting attacked is a problem with AI not stats. Making all attributes offensive would be solving the wrong problem. What’s your suggestion then? You first argue that if Res boost power level, than it would be a dump for a ranged glass cannon build, now you are saying its not a problem if a stats is a dump for a build??
-
Yes good idea. But already the case for part. Or you cut the strength/resolve aspect and reinforce the power level aspect ? But it is not ideal because here is no way to increase the value other than by the level up, with your solution. Monk is not in the same case. There is no massive list of spells in monk panel. Obsidian lets be very clear that the "window of level up" is mixed between PASSIVE and SPELLS ... If you have 90% of spells. You can not have 50% of passive. You have 10% ... Contribution of the offensive attribute : 33 % (max without buff) Contribution of spiritshifting : 15 % With your system : 33 % / 2 (we cut the pear in half) = 15 % ~ Contribution without offensive stat scale = 15 + 15 = 30 %. Min-max are not happy : p If Resolve boost power level, either level up or increase Res can gives u more. But for a real solution of shifter. I post a suggestion here https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/95087-single-class-druid-shifter-subclass/page-2?do=findComment&comment=1968851

COMPILATION THREAD - balance, classes, feedback, game mechanics
dunehunter replied to dam's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
We need a thread to discuss balance of Inspiration for sure, as the Tier 3 Int Inspiration and Tier 3 Con affliction are unfamiliar to me -
This is easy to solve, ties spiritual form’s attributes to power level like monk’s fist. Then let Res boost power level.

[Single Class Druid] - Shifter Subclass
dunehunter replied to DexGames's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I think it might be a good idea to introduce more Druid spell that can only be casted under spiritual form, like the lvl 2 Spell Taste of hunt. And allow shifter to use these when shifted. Like spells which mimic Barbarian blow or a slash lash version of FoD. A shifter can pick these spells instead of regular spells. This might solve the problem that Shifter’s lack of choices when level up. -
Druid is a hybrid that u can choose to melee attack or blast, shifter is a subclass that focus on its melee side. So for trade off, you lose some of the utilities and flexibility as a hybrid since u cannot attack effective and cast at same time. But it’s not a hard limit because u can still turn back to normal form and cast.
-
That is the problem for almost all single classes, not only shifter, but shifter does suffer more from this problem. And I understand what a hybrid is. I just agree more that a hybrid should be inferior to a pure meleer or caster in their specialist field. Hybrid provides utilities and more choices than pure meleer or casters.
-
Claiming that a subclass force you to choose sounds weird to me. I think it’s make more sense that a player pick the most suitable subclass that fit his playstyle than complain a subclass not fit his playstyle, you can always pick a more suitable subclass. And when I play shifter, I do cast spells. For tough battles I will cast returning storm before I shifted and it works fair good. I vote for old Might system too, buy I think it’s being too soon to say Druid is gimped too.
-
nuking is not a good option is not an argument, and shifter now basically needs every stat shifter in its current state works only if you plan to multiclass, and have lets say bear looking monk, because after you get wild strike, rest is meh Before stat change, the shifter was a hybrid, youl could stay in back, and support/nuke and you could shift and go for melee in bear form, or run for enemy casters as a wolf, now it seems that its no brainer. I dont see how having fewer viable build options is a good thing in any scenario How shifter is designed, is to encourage you to shift from one form to another form, so you get constant heal and keep tanking and fighting. It punishes you for casting spells because you need to take one more step than normal Druid if you wanna cast, turn back to human form, and need to pay extra recovery time. It’s not a subclass that favor hybrid, it’s a melee focused subclass. It’s not a no brainer, but it is how it is designed, you are better at attacking than casting. If you wanna play a real hybrid Druid, there are livegiver and normal Druid.

Oh sorry thought u mean give Perception penetration bonus than overpenetration bonus. The solution you give is a bit complicated that I misunderstood
-
well that excludes barbarians as both defenders and controllers, carnage seems like a gimmick now, and barb is not worth it unless you want just damage dealer the build I had in mind exactly skald/barb, using carnage with modal to debuff multiple enemies, get lots of procs for skald feature, and using shouts for damage, debuff or control, depending on what weapon modal I am using I like the new Carnage better, the PoE 1 carnage is an overpowered class feature, it can create way more synergy than any other classes do.
-
But only give Res a defensive bonus will still make them a dump for any ranged glass cannon build i think A stats need to give bonus that is universal enough to make it a less dump stats.

Your Tiers List [Base Classes, Subclasses]
dunehunter replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
A Rogue/Conjurer who max Str and use Kalakoth's Minor Blights as main weapon is very strong. You can turn Blind Strike or Hobble Strike into AOE CC with it, then all your blights will do sneak attacks. Not to mention AOE Arterial Strike or Gouging Strike. An Assassin/Evoker is pretty cool as you can apply assassinate to your blasts. Or a Streetfighter/Illusionist as a Riposte build. There are many possible builds for Rogue/Wizard. -
Your Tiers List [Base Classes, Subclasses]
dunehunter replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
We will see how strong monk fists are in next patch I think once they fix the bug of Transcendent suffering. A nature godlike Shattered Pillar maxes Str, Per and Res would be very very strong. Just tested it and a lvl 9 monk can get +65% damage, +18 accuracy and +5 Penetration from Transcendent suffering with Nature godlike +2 power level and acute buff(+1 power level). Fist will do more damage than a great sword and is super fast because it is counted as fast weapon and get dual wielding bonus. You can spam Torment reach because the wounds generated by Torment reach is enough to use another one... And with Torment Reach + Rooting Pain you usually can do up to 80 damage in the area, and up to 180 damage to the main target..... -
[Bug] Ascendant doesn't work at all
dunehunter replied to dunehunter's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Isn't cipher soul whip lash just normal additive damage bonus? Normal cipher get 40% damage when max focus, Ascendant get +50% damage when max, I didn't see any significant boost here. -
[Bug] Ascendant doesn't work at all
dunehunter replied to dunehunter's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Probably just remove the 5 second duration of the +3 power level buff. Because your soul whip is less effective while under max focus. It is a fair trade off. Now the only playstyle an Ascendant has is reach max focus -> blast -> reach max focus -> blast. +20% lash damage will never work now because you can only cast spell when max focus. -
I believe it works like a blast now. So it is tied to Res. Why not make it works like Carnage? So it is only decided by your main strike.
-
Yep, if you take Second Wind or other heal spell into account, the actual hpmax is probably doubled or more. So the Constituition is overvalued for sure. I like this last summary best, there are much more multipliers in the game than we realized, and this will cause an overinflation eventually. Looking at how DOS 2 performs in late game, everything is inflated too much in late game and I really don't like it.
-
I have no idea what you say about last ditch tool for shifter... As a Shifter you can shift 5 forms and each forms will heal you a lot hp and Spiritual form has high armor and fast attack speed. The best strategy for a Shifter is shift and attack for a small combat, or cast Returning Storm/Relentless Storm and then shift and tank for big combat. If you just cast and use shifting as a last ditch tool, you are not playing it right and pure druid might be a better choice for you.

I think it depends on how you view casting time in general. Personally I see it as a new mechanic, as casting time wasn't at all the same in PoE 1. If they've removed a mechanic that effected casting time originally (interrupts being ubiquitous), and removed an advantage that went along with that mechanic from an attribute (Concentration), to me it makes logical sense that Resolve should now benefit from a new advantage that reflects the mechanistic changes that have been made in PoE 2 (longer casting time). Honestly I prefer they first fix cast time inconsistency. Then add whatever spell bonus to Res. Any test or playthrough or feeling is based on a unpolished spell system now, which is inaccurate. Like we all feel fireball and summon spell takes years to cast, but spells like Bounding Missile are Ok to me. They are powerful and has a fair cast time. its not inconsistency, but balancing, fireball and summons have the bigger effect on battle than magic missile, only cast time i feel is off is for conjured melee weapons I mentioned Minoletta's Bounding Missile, not magic missile If there are like 3 or less enemy left in the battle, Bounding Missile will be superior to Fireball for sure, and it is devastating if you empower it. So I say fireball and bounding missile are of a same power level. And I didn't mention summon in my post
