Analysis of Meta-Game [Abilities/Spells]
dunehunter replied to theBalthazar's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
There are more than just primary attack/full attack abilities in the game, I listed a few more below: Disengagement attack: attack once with primary weapon. Riposte: attack with main and off weapon once. Cleave: attack with main and off weapon once. Backstab: only work with primary weapon. So currently both two handed and two weapon style has its advantage now, but that doesn't mean two handed weapon doesn't need any tune. It's still inferior to two weapon style when doing auto attacks. -

Citzal Lance + Cleave would be more powerful yes!! Basically you can hit one mob 2-4 times with cleave if your Int is high I think. It’s just like a death whirlwind :D -
Yeah the new shield will replace the old one I think. Not 100% sure if ancient memories stacks or not.

Heals can be countered by Con afflictions, damage absorb is not. But I agree that both class offers huge support to the team. If your heals can reach 30 hp per 3 second, then it is equally powerful.

+1 for this request. Rename them Action points or Mana or whatever. I partially agree with the idea, but imagining a Corpse eater/Paladin who refill it’s ‘zealot’ by eating corpse?! Hmmm sounds a disgusting way to me. But it will enable more synergy for more builds, which I upvote -
But why would you be naked? In current armor system, wear heavier armor is much better than naked. The best strategy to use this phrase is wearing armor. I don’t understand why u try to argue its usefulness with a naked character. The only affliction u need to worry is probably Paralysis, but this is a team game, and u can always pick a wood elf if u don’t wanna get paralyzed. And a five character team with this phrase is crazily powerful.

Yes, but it's 5th tier... and is it good enough to make single-class Troubadour worthwhile? One other nice thing about single-class Troubadour is that once they start with 4 phrases they can summon skeletons as quickly as a Beckoner---with half the DPS, half the skeletons, but sturdier skeletons (harder to wipe out with AoE). Start: 4 phrases---skeletons cost Troubadour 4 After 12 seconds (more with high int): you've gotten 4 phrases again, can start casting skeletons again Skeletons last base of 12 seconds if not killed beforehand. Better once Ancient Brittle Bones is functional... I did some small test, surrounding my chanter with 6 tiger, he barely get any damage. Absorb 30 damage per 3 second = OP.

Absorb 30 damage per 3 second is not enough to be a good phrase? I think it sounds pretty good.

Same link but incase it is not displayed: http://youtu.be/qtQAXe_5p7U I activated Disciplined Barrage and Swift flurry tho, but you got the idea! 1. Cleave attacks are full attacks. 2. Kill enemy trigger AOE cleave, AOE cleave triggers more Swift flurry attacks, and if any enemy is killed -> More AOE cleaves... I think this combo is more abusive than Citizal Spirit Lance + Swift Flurry because you generate more attacks through Cleaves. And any extra kill generate more Cleaves. -

Anyone think the Cleave stance of Fighter is OK or overpowered? In D&D cleave will only trigger one attack, and greater cleave triggers when u killed a 2nd enemy. But in Deadfire each time you killed a target, it triggers a 'Heart of Fury'... I rolled a Berserker/Devoted and I find that every cleave attack that kills enemy seems triggers another cleave attack. So if you killed the initial target, you trigger an AOE cleave, then your cleave killed another enemy, it triggers another cleave... I saw my berserker instantly killed all zombies in the dungeon and I goes WTF ?! -

I'm actually fairly sure the initial attack is still RES-based, but I didn't take a screenshot and my play time is over for the day. I'll run more ... experiments, tomorrow. Actually it is both Str and Res based on initial target. You will do a primary attack to the initial target which is Str based. Then it triggers the AOE effect, the AOE effect not only does damage to target behind, but also the initial target. So it is Str + Res on first target. Not sure if it is a bug or not! Same as the cipher lvl spell Mind wave, I remember sometimes it does crush damage to first target too.. -
Issue with druid spiritual forms
dunehunter replied to dunehunter's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
What if we make the fur of Spiritual form based on the character's skin color? Like a pale elf can turn into a white wolf. -

I think an overall suggestion is to rework all ability cost to Power level / 2 + 1, so ability from power level 1st, 2rd layer cost 1 point, from 3th, 4th layer cost 2 and etc. -

Yes but you must have 3 wounds ? You must not wait for the enemy touch the monk ? (In POE1 I wasn't a big fan of monk, so I do not know any of his secrets) It is super easy to get 3 wounds honestly, specially Shattered Pillar, every torment reach you use will give u at least 2-3 wounds. Helwalker gets 3 wounds from the beginning of combat, and for the Drug monk eating drug gives wounds... So I think 3 wound cost is fine. -

So many red in Rogue But I think the +20 penetration of cripple strike is a bug, so one more red plz Arterial Strike and Gouging Strike are good if you are a spellblade that dump Str pump Res, as the raw damage is unrelated to the initial damage. And I hope Rogue can have an ability to reduce enemy armor too, I don't ask much, just single target ability that reduce AR by 2 is fine to me... -
A rework for wizard subclasses bonus
dunehunter replied to dunehunter's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Grimoire slam is a hilarious weak spell, it targets enemy deflection without accuracy bonus, so it is like you try to hit someone with fist. And even you manage to hit someone, it does little damage and only a push effect. Then omg 3 sec recovery time! 'Best' lvl 2 spell ever. -

If torment reach is a full attack like it is in PoE 1, a Monk can just dump Dex and spam full attack like they do in PoE1. I think that’s the reason devs nerf it to primary attack. Even tho the updated version is really powerful. -
A rework for wizard subclasses bonus
dunehunter replied to dunehunter's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Long cast time is a problem of spells, I'm only talking about the subclass passive bonus here. And I think all wizard subclasses except Evoker is pretty lame. A subclass should have either heavy penalty/heavy bonus or light penalty/light bonus. Wizard subclasses restrict themselves from using spells of two schools, and recovery penalty. Imo this penalty is pretty huge, but the bonus for them except Evoker is minor. Power level affects evocation spells nicely, but it is less effective on other school spells. The Enchanter/Illusionist bonus is either too situational or too flat. Same as Conjurer's familiar, it is just horrible to lose two school to get a useless familiar. And for Transmuter, if I remember correctly they lose access to Enchantment spells. A transmuter who turns into an Ogre and a normal wizard who buff himself with a lot inspiration and summon magic weapon, which do you think is better in melee? I'd voted for a normal wizard. I don't argue that a Enchanter, an Illusionist or a Transmuter will perform nicely on level 1, but the higher level you becomes, the worse they becomes and the penalty to lose 2 spell school becomes so obvious. -
1. Cat form description says cat form has a faster attack speed passive, but it lies. Cat form has same attack speed and recovery time. 2. Bear form model seems much smaller than other 4 forms. 3. Stag carnage behaves weird.

Druid bear form has a much better active ability, Terrifying Roar. Frightened in a radius of 5m around caster. If Barbaric yell can be a radius instead of cone I think it would be better. -

Currently wizard subclasses are pretty lame except Evokers because the bonus you get from these subclass is a flat bonus that doesn't scale in later game. So I'm thinking of a rework on these bonus to make them have a better performance in both early game and late game. Conjurer - Remove the useless Conjure Familiar spell. Instead, now Conjuration spell cast time is halved. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment: This change can make Conjurers a specialist in minion summon and weapon summon, they are more professional in conjuring magical things than normal wizard. Enchanter - Keep the Free Action bonus, also add a haste bonus that gives enchanter an action speed boost that lasts 10 second at the beginning of combat. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment: Currently Enchanter's bonus is a defensive bonus that isn't necessarily triggered every combat, so if they are not affected by Dex affliction, this bonus equals to nothing, so I added an offensive bonus to match their school. Evoker - no changes needed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment: The current Evoker bonus feels pretty good to me, and it will remain useful during all levels. Illusionist - Change the Reflective Mirror into that every time when an Illusionist gets hit, there is a chance to trigger a free Wizard's Double. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment: The current bonus of Illusionist is OK for early game, because it is a flat bonus as it gives u a free lvl 3 spell. But for later game this bonus feels lame, so I make it a constant defense passive to keep it useful. Specially we have a similar wizard build in PoE 1 that focus on Wizard Double and high defenses. So this bonus sounds a good idea to me. Transmuter - turn into Ogre form into a modal similar to Druid spiritual shift, and add a fear aura to the ogre. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment: The 6 sec of the spell is horrible, so why not turn it into a modal same as the spiritual shift? And fear aura matches the spell name Any idea on this?

I personally think the best way to balance class abilities is to use the math model similar to here https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/95571-a-simple-heuristic-to-compare-the-relative-value-of-ressources/ But of course the relative value in the link is an estimation and is not accurate. Using relative value to balance passive abilities is more convincing
