  1. Then why did you refer to this community? Because you guys keep on qq'ing that they're not here. Whereas they're quite active in other communities.
  2. I call bull**** on that. If you like, I can point to a number of critical threads I've started. The latests is "[392] Enemy casters need to be more threatening." Check it out on the BB forums if you like.
  3. Hum, how do you know this, I wonder? Thing is, we don't own the devs. They have jobs. That job description clearly does not include "spend X amount of hours per week on Obs's forums." If they hang out here, it's because they want to. And if they don't, but hang out elsewhere instead, it's because they want to do that. The obvious explanation again is that he -- among others -- doesn't want to participate in this community. Blaming only them for not wanting to hang out here is woefully one-sided, methinks. Especially as many of you who moan and gnash their teeth the loudest about their absence are also the very same ones directing the sharpest barbs and most vitriol at them.
  4. BTW @Nonek he did shoot arrows which penetrated chainmail + gambeson in that video. @Mangonel I dunno if in-close bow-fu infantry ever figured much in warfare, but mounted archers certainly did. Being able to shoot from horseback while charging at an enemy formation, or, worse, when being engaged by an enemy would require skills much like he was demonstrating. (And I'm quite sure that bow hunting is a different set of skills yet.)
  5. Yeah, y'all are so charming it's a wonder they don't want to hang out here more.
  6. This has nothing to do with the armor system. It's all class. Different classes have different ratios of endurance to health, with fighters much more robust than wizards.
  7. FWIW I don't think I've ever pickpocketed in the IE games. It's not like there's a shortage of stuff in them even without it.
  8. No, you didn't. In BB278 -- the one you loved so much you qq'ed for a refund, remember -- Deflection (still not "armor class") was not affected by any stat. It was determined exclusively by class, talents, and gear. Dexterity governed Accuracy. Yeah, if. If only the attributes let you pump Deflection. Oh, you know what? It does! In BB392, that is. Not in BB278 you loved so much. Aren't you happy they accommodated your wishes on that? (snip ramble based on that particular misunderstanding of what the attributes actually did) On the contrary, the possibility to pump Deflection was added to the system. The original attribute system did not let you do what you say you did. The current one does. (Or, OK, would, if the numbers weren't so badly out of whack your Deflection is as good as useless since they're going to ream you anyway. I hope this changes in the next build.) You know, it is considered good form to at least have a basic understanding of the thing you're criticising, before you criticise it.
  9. There. Is. No. Stat. Called. "Resistance." You're making that up. There is Concentration which is opposed to Interrupt, and was determined by Resolve. The defense stats are Deflection, Fortitude, Reflex, and Will, and Accuracy is used to attack any and all of them. In which system? Not P:E, that's for sure. In which system? Not P:E, that's for sure. Speak for yourself. It certainly doesn't, and didn't, exist in P:E. There is no stat named "armor class." There is a defense named "deflection" though. You mean deflection. Yes, you would want to pump Accuracy for such a build. Yes, accuracy is crucial for everyone and everything. You do realize that they removed Accuracy from the stat system against Sensuki &co's advice, right? (I like it, FWIW -- accuracy is so crucial to every class that it's a bit of a must-pump stat unless you nerf the effect to oblivion IMO.) Except that grazes are not "full magical hits." Grazes are grazes. Accuracy determines whether something's a miss, graze, hit, or crit. If an attack does more than one type of damage and/or attacks more than one defense, they're calculated separately. There is no such thing as DnD's touch-attack spells, where a graze would result in a "full magical hit." Disengagement attacks (not "attacks of opportunity") are indeed brutal, which is why it's crucial to break engagement in some way before attempting to retreat. (I don't think the AI ever attempts to retreat if engaged by the way.) It's pretty damn clear you didn't, though, or if you did, you had no clue of what's going on or what the attributes and stats actually did or do. That rambling was remarkably incoherent even by your standards. I didn't understand a word of it.
  10. There is no "resistance" stat, and never was. You may be thinking of Concentration though, but given how confused you clearly are about the game's mechanics it's hard to take anything you say seriously at this point. And you claim to have turned this into a PnP system? :boggle: And since in P:E all attacks, including touch attacks, rely on Accuracy to hit, and there is no such thing as "armor class"... well. Your imaginary system maybe. You clearly have no idea about what the actual system in P:E is, or was like though. But keep talking, this is amusing.
  11. People fixate on the weirdest things. The only reason I drop things on the ground in games is to make room in the inventory. With unilmited inventory, why would I ever drop anything on the ground?
  12. I don't think he does. I think he just dislikes automation. The more the game's built around supporting and granting purpose to automation, the less there is to react to in combat. So, it's a feasible point. It would be like saying "first-person-shooting can take a hike." Doesn't mean people can't play games with first-person shooting and like them, but maybe he doesn't want to see this game bend itself to fit that design feature. It's also a matter of priorities. Every hour spent designing and implementing automation is an hour not spent on something else.
  13. Hey, that sounds familiar! Maybe Josh is a simulationist after all...
  14. I like the endurance/health mechanic. I.e., I didn't find death in the IE games scary. Instead, I found it dull and tedious. All death meant was a reload, and that was prompted by even a single party member going down (until I was high level enough to have Raise Dead.) I prefer P:E's system where only a TPW is a reload, and with strategic cost for getting knocked out. That makes winning a tough fight only barely both feasible and rewarding, and therefore the fights that much more exciting.
  15. My bad, it doesn't. I thought it did since it's based on D&D3, and they're quite central to its combat.
  16. The Cipher's stuff, yeah, but the Chanter's not so much. They are actual phrases they sing or shout, so it would be entirely lore-consistent that they'd learn more as they wander the length and breadth of Eora.
  17. can't be arsed to copy-paste a System Reference Document
  18. I don't know how emergent the pickpocketing gameplay in the IE games was. All the goodies you could pickpocket had to be placed there by the designers after all.
  19. See, that's your problem right there, archangel. You constantly confuse your personal opinions with a "neutral point of view" or "general consensus among backers" or whatever. I don't really have an agenda, either, other than I'd really like a game I'd really like to play. I do have opinions, of course, which include a general dislike of DnD mechanics and an immense affection for much of its content, but I don't make any secret about that -- and I'm not about to change or hide those opinions just to please you TYVM. Only personal opinion is yours. I cba to c/p SRD that beats all your points. Go read it yourself. Yep, archangel doesn't have opinions, he only states objective truths. :eyeroll:
  20. Which stat system are you talking about, DnD's or P:E's?

  22. Ne, I think he's genuinely butthurt. What I find amusing though is that he got his refund, yet he insists on continuing to mope here bemoaning how awfully the game is treating him while talking down to us poor fools who don't share his take on it. Even those who are butthurt about it for different reasons. Ah the humanity...
  23. I seem to remember Josh mentioning that Chanters at least can find phrases during their adventures. That was a long time ago so it's possible I'm mistaken and/or they've changed it.
  24. That's a matter of perspective really. What you focus on. I just gave NWN and NWN2 a short whirl too, and from where I'm at P:E combat is waaaaaaaaay closer to the IE games than them. Also IWD2 is an IE game too, the last one in fact. I'll have to give that another spin as well; I have a hunch the combat might actually be pret-t-ty close to P:E because it has AOO's which are similar to engagement in many ways.
