It's kinda amusing actually, that the SIJW's keep claiming the SJW's "raise lynch mobs" and what have you, and then keep starting threads drumming for lynch mobs against "feminazis" and "political correctness" and what have you. To the OP: better check under your bed, there might be a cultural marxist there.

PoE - Sales figures STEAM

Shargrath started the derailment ITT though, and he's pro-injustice. I'm all for keeping that discussion contained in a single thread. It's annoying to trip over it everywhere. -
Ehhh maybe. I'm not a huge fan of exponential XP either; it makes for ridiculously inflated late-game XP and makes XP gain trivial once you've leveled past an area. It's kind of a brute-force solution IMO. And despite MATHEMATICS! it's by no means the only solution. It's all about balancing the XP rewards with the level requirements. P:E's leveling curve is very similar to D&D3's, and that worked fine for e.g. Storm of Zehir which had a quite a lot of side content.

I'm not enjoying this game

@nipsen what are you talking about? The encounters are very short and sharp, a few boss battles aside. I've only chugged the occasional potion in a Trial of Iron run when I wanted to be extra sure of not losing, and never chugged more than one in a fight. Have you even played this? -
Yeah. My wishlist: Stronger resistances and, perhaps, immunities. How do you blind or knock down an ooze, anyway? -- This would make encounters a lot more varied as we'd need to vary tactics a lot more. As it is, anything that Blinds or Prones is way too universally useful. XP rebalance so it's not so easy to over-level. Enchantable hats. And a haberdashery where we can buy them. And outfits. And a properly tintable Vailian outfit. And a pony. Truly unique items like <<that one item>> and <<that other item>> should be way more powerful. Powerful enough that you might want to build a character just to use them. Think Crom Faeyr, not Flame Blade +2. Is it me, or are bows kind of meh right now? Also very keen to hear more about the expansion.

New to the genre
PrimeJunta replied to NightPorter's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
P:E is a good deal more approachable than the original IE games. You'll have an easier time with it I'm sure. IWD is the most approachable of the IE games IMO. BG2 and PS:T are the most brutal for those new to the genre. -
Hehe yeah. I'm finding these "IS POOP BECAUSE ISN'T AS GOOD AS THE GREATEST CRPG OF ALL TIEM!" posts rather amusing actually. No, the writing isn't as good as PS:T's at its best. No, the encounter design isn't as good as BG2's at its best. No, the exploration isn't as rich as in BG1. No, the dungeon crawls aren't as well-structured as in IWD. But the writing is way better than IWD, BG1, or (IMO) BG2. And the encounter design is way better than in BG1 or PS:T. And the exploration is way better than IWD or PS:T. And the dungeon crawls are way better than BG1 (possible exception for expansion dungeons aside). And... it's a relatively low-budget Kickstarted game developed from scratch in two years. The fact that it's even worth comparing to these classics in the very areas which made them classics is a pretty damn huge deal. It's like reviewing somebody's debut novel and saying "Well, it's not quite as good as Dostoevsky at his best."

The Gamespot review
PrimeJunta replied to sim-h's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah but again I relate his 9/10 scores for other same-genre games (DA:I and D:OS) to PoE and find it odd that he considers PoE a full 'point' on whatever his scale is, worse. I can list a dozen things that DA:I does better than P:E off the top of my head. The fact that I feel that all of them are meaningless fluff simply means I have different preferences. -
The Gamespot review
PrimeJunta replied to sim-h's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Oh come on. Any score from 7-10 would be fair for P:E. So much depends on your preferences, your tolerance for bugs, your willingness to learn systems, your experience with similar games and so on and so forth. Below 7 I would question the fairness though as it's more likely the reviewer just fails to get what the game is supposed to be. -
I do enjoy the wizard class with the current resting system in place, and I do not spam rods/wands most of the time.

@Parsong you already made it clear you beat PotD by abusing a couple of broken spells. That's... not particularly awesome.

Hard mode is too easy.
PrimeJunta replied to Mazisky's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sounds like the only thing needed to fix this would be to adjust the XP tables. If it's possible to hit the level cap a early as act 2, then that's clearly not right. Perhaps Easy/Normal/Hard/PotD could use different XP tables, too. Edit: Oh, somebody already said this. NVM -
IMO having to complete only "over half" the side content to hit level cap is indicative of a problem. As is having players hit Dyrford at level 10. That sort of thing does ruin the experience. I don't know how that could be solved though without either (1) making side content effectively mandatory because if you don't do it you'll be underleveled in the endgame, (2) making side content so unrewarding in XP it stops being much fun, or (3) level scaling. Pick your poison.
