  1. Selective quoting there. The entire quote is: They name dropped Baldur's Gate and Athkatla. If you're going to use those cities as the benchmark as big cities then I expect something similar in size.
  2. LOL. I *wish* the drakes had done that to my ranged characters. Another place where I got toasted a couple of times. You definitely play with your ranged characters further back than I do. This is, I guess, another reason that enemy LOS should be just as good as your own. Imagine how much tenser it would be if some enemies had better vision than that of your party. That's something I'd like to see. That was just an example. And also to highlight that I can send durance in stark naked and throw healing spells at Eder and a lot of enemies will often ignore him. Sometimes I play with my firing squad a way back and other times they're close together.
  3. And you aren't throwing insults and sneering at others? How about take your own advice and contribute to the discussion.
  4. Not really 5 snipers and one tank. Working as intended with having all four bases covered in my party with Defender (Eder), DPS (PC Rogue, Sagani, Grieving Mother), Leader (Durance) and Controller (Hiravias). I've only got Sagani in my party to do her quest and will drop her like a lead balloon once it's done. Will then pick up Pallegina as that's the only companion I haven't picked up yet.
  5. Okay. Just did a video to show you how enemies like Drakes ignore your ranged characters. In fact, one drake flies through my ranged characters. Skip to 1.50 minute mark to see it happen. Playing on Hard. Not even trying to win the battle (but I did win it anyway), and just showing an example of how enemies will target the first character they come across and dog pile on them. I had GM hitting the drake and the drake was ignoring her. The drake flying through my characters is nothing new and it's one of the many instances I've come across in the game where the A.I. just ignores my other characters. http://youtu.be/gCPMPnTvVr4 Oh and my naked Durance is all alone off to the left keeping Eder up and the drakes fly past him and ignore him!
  6. Sorry, but this is not the best fight in the game. I sent Eder in to initiate dialogue, all enemies attacked him and then I creamed them all with AoE damage, ranged damage and my Rogue coming in late with dual spears. Foe only AoE makes it a breeze to just sit your tank in the middle of all of the enemies in the room and then carefully aim stuff like Fan of Flames over and over again. Those guys also get minced if you use Eder with a Jolting Touch scroll. I also beat it on the first try. It wasn't even hard and didn't require me to adjust to anything they did at all. I won simply by using the same strategy I use to beat everything else. If spellcasters could actually protect themselves properly like they can in the IE games, then it might be a different story. So... you basicly metagame'd this encounter hard by sending in your tank alone to trigger the dialogue. Come on, really? The fight is fun and challenging when doing it the way it was intended. lol wut? How was the encounter intended? And how do you metagame it? I roleplayed the encounter with sending my tank in first and triggering the battle. This is how our pnp group would play with a defender running in taking the hits and everyone else mopping up.
  7. So you put your ranged characters in melee? No wonder you find it so hard. It just never occurred to me to use that sort of tactic. When you send your melee character (such as my fighter in the case of the Lady Valtas example) a few steps up to the enemy, the enemy dogpiles on your melee character in a LOT of cases that I'm finding in this game. My ranged characters are waving their hands in the air shouting 'over here' and the enemy ignores them. Even when the enemy is circling the tank, waiting for another enemy to die so they can slot in, they ignore my ranged characters a few steps away.
  8. And if you read my posts, I was highlighting the scout, tank and spank wins most (that I've done so far) if not pretty much all battles in the game. And In my second example, I highlighted the 'ring around the rosey' problem and then gave a better example with the above screen shot with Lady Valtas who ignored my nude (except for their capes) ranged characters and went right in front of them to attack my fighter. I even had a better example but didn't save the screen shot where my characters are even closer and the enemies were circling the tank trying to hit him.
  9. You guys split your party up that much? Holy cow. I've always kept my party fairly tightly together. Even in the IE games I've always done that. It just wouldn't seem ... I dunno ... it just seems hella weird to me. What are you talking about? They're practically together and my fighter is only a very small distance away from the rest of the party.
  10. ROFL. I was playing IWD1 a week before PoE was released and will be going back to it in due course to finish it off. So I'm not playing from nostalgia but side by side. And I don't even have to meta-game the A.I. in PoE to know a lot of enemies will ignore my 5 character firing squad in open areas. I've just been to some open areas with drakes and they do the same thing with the screen shot of guls I posted in the previous page of this thread. They do the 'ring around the rosey' thing all the time. And if an enemy decides to go after my firing squad, I can have my characters run away and the enemy then turns back onto my tank. Archery and ranged weapons is crazy strong in PoE too. In fact, the unlimited ammo allows me to tank and spank and walk away from my computer and make a cup of tea, knowing my characters won't drop, die or run out of ammo. It's even easier in PoE. I would also argue the story in PoE is somewhat linear too. In fact, the quests seem to try and make you go to all the maps in the game. Go to Gilded vale and a quest makes you go to Raedric's Hold. Same with making you go to Caed Nua and various other maps. Something, BG1 didn't do. There is min-maxing in PoE. Even moreso than the IE games. My Rogue that I'm playing is min-maxed and I was min-maxing throughout the beta. PoE introduced many (unintentional) exploits that didn't even exist in the IE games.
  11. Yeah, there's that with one or two enemies attacking the tank and the rest of the enemies in a line behind. example: But I'm actually talking about ring around the rosey. Example: I had a better example but forgot to save the screen shots as my ranged characters were nearly against my tank but the enemies kept targeting my tank. Also, my other characters aren't wearing any armour. I was able to move my other characters down below the crane and mop up all the wizards and continue around and then help out the tank. Pretty easy fight when the enemy concentrates on one character (tank) and ignores the rest of your party. Hopefully a modder will put in some enemy AI scripts to attack more than one person. Okay, I have a better example below. Following the yellow arrow, Lady Valtas completely ignores my other party members who aren't wearing any armour and goes around and attacks my tank. I'm not even trying to exploit the A.I.
  12. Pretty much. Scout, tank and spank. Playing on hard, and auto-attacking. Quite often not using GM's spells which I could. Just letting them use their ranged weapons. It's also funny seeing mobs circle your tank, round and round ignoring your other characters as the mob tries to get in but can't because your tank already had a few mobs on him. So the mob goes ring around a rosey until an opening presents itself when another mob in melee dies. Perhaps a modder will mod in some enemy AI scripts.
  13. Okay, I turned the music off and yes, you're right. I can hear them in the background (only just). I had the music on around 18 on the slider and it drowned out the voices. But it's different from the BG games where you could hear people talking in the background as well as people walking by with the music on. Also, it'd be good if you click on people, they say something vocally and not just pop up words. I liked the way it was in the IE games, even if they said only a couple of words. Can you have a slider for the background voices? I tried the voice and effects sliders but it didn't seem to do anything to the background voices. Maybe you could add the background voices to the effects slider?
  14. I sometimes hear people but other times it's just music. I'll turn the music off and try it out.
  15. Can anyone explain how taxes are worked out and when you receive them. It comes across as random. Some days you get them, other days you don't. I can imagine my accountant (if there is one) at the Stronghold being a bit like this.
  16. I just noticed something with the world map. All the wilderness areas use the same icon. Some might say it comes across as a bit lazy. The BG maps had unique icons for their locations. Can the dev's create unique icons for each location please.
  17. I agree with everything Sensuki said about the game. I'm playing through it but feel it's not as good as the previous IE games. Combat is copy paste and if you send a tank up front and have a firing squad of 5 party members some distance away shooting everything, it's all very easy. So much so that I don't have my firing squad wear any armour. The A.I is exploitable even if you try not to exploit it. The A.I. is just plain dumb. One of the things I do miss is the town/city life of the BG games, the banter and chatter, the hawkers trying to sell their wares, the voices that carry from out of nowhere that make the towns and cities feel alive. Just the hustle and bustle of life. This is missing in PoE. It's just music and rarely I hear someone speak. Most of town/city NPCs just stand there and pretty much do nothing. And most don't even walk or turn around when you click on them. And some areas of Defiance Bay feel deserted.
  18. Oh I know, but Hassat Hunter said this with locks that require keys that can be picked. No. There's quite a lot of locks in the game requiring keys that can't be picked. Fact.
  19. Talking about picking locks that require keys, I've come across two doors that I can't lock pick and is asking for a key. My lock pick skill is 9 atm. I've found quite a few doors that I can't lock pick without keys. So Hassat Hunter, what skill do I need in Mechanics to lock pick these two doors?
  20. Wrong forum. Nothing to do with Pillars of Eternity. Also, nothing wrong with the current system. It's pretty self-explanatory
  21. I'm going to call Pillars of Eternity as PoE on the internet including other forums. Wish me luck in my endeavour..
  22. It was a big task for Obsidian to develop PoE on three different platforms, two of which they've never developed a game on before. Even on one platform was a big ask. Considering they released the game on all three platforms with the staff they had is amazing to me. I'm also surprised at how quickly they got the physical rewards to backers compared to InXile. Regardless of what design decisions I may disagree with, with any faults with the game and it's great to see the intended patch notes go up for the players to see, I think Obsidian have done a sterling job.
