I'm a practicing catholic. And my uncle has been a priest for 60+ years (and a damn good one) If you PM me questions, I can try to answer what I can. I can even ask him. But you have to remember, that not even the Church is a monolithic as it may seem and catholic may have slightly different views on the same thing.

Because #gamersgate is NOT about one thing. It represents different things to different people. and once the ball started rolling, people jumped on the band wagon with their own agendas. The second a woman got involved, feminists jumped in. That prompted a response for those fed up with them. Then the SJW's jumped in. Then those who oppose them. Then people of all kinds and stripes. Kinda like that. There is no true single goal here.

Does that mean you WERE more qualified? Isn't the entire point of the interview to get an estimate of the person. If the person doing the interview is any good, he/she should be able to tell when someone is good "on paper" and when they are good in practice. But it's difficult to say. A job interview is basically an apprisal and many things go into that, and the interviewer may have his own biases or priorities. It could be that your friend just didn't leave a good impression. I remember locking up on my first job interview, I fumbled things I knew well.

It gets complicated becasue there's million of people involved, all with their own ideas, ideals and agendas. And you have people trying to use the entire thing to push their own agendas, which bring in other people, etc, etc..

I think 99% of all threts are hot gas and nothing more. When is hte last time you heard of a internet threat amounting to anything? The guy threatening you could be a kid, a drunkard or just a overly-emotinal person who would never go trough with it anyway. Not to mention that the person doing the threatining might live on the other side of the globe. He'll harldy have the time OR $$$ to fly over just to cause s*** that would definately land him in jail.

I didn't say ONLY explanation. But it is an explanation and a valid one. After all, men and women are different not only a physical level, but on a mental one too. Maybe - just maybe - men are more willing to work extra hours or take on more tasks because they value money more, and women value their free time more? (in general) Again, I don't know of a single instance of that salary mismatch. It certainly isn't the flaw of any laws or right women have, and if that's the case and no one can pin down what's causing the difference, them whom are they complaining to?

I want to see those statistics. There's a lot of talk about it, but I've yet to hear about actual examples, only "hear-says". I work in a software company and most of the staff is women. They get paid just as much. Heck, every woman I know in various other companies and jobs and talked about it, never complained that their wages were lower. There are always differences between employes, but there are many factors to that - overtime, bonuses, work quotas, etc, etc..

For me the irony and humour around all this venting directed towards Bioware games is its always the same ritual. People complain bitterly about how EA has destroyed the once great company of Bioware People complain bitterly how there games just aren't as good as they use to be and how the Bioware model of RPG is gone forever People really attack how terrible there games are even to the point of making videos to show us how " they spent dozens of hours of playing game x" and really are informed about its faults Bioware releases next ME and DA game and everyone plays it The cycle of criticism starts all over again Hope dies last. People keep hoping that the next game will be better. Then the next. Then the next.

Problem is, even that is overblown. Women are treated bad? Really? How and when? By whom? They earn less? Sez who? The law to equalize earnings has been in effect for decades. Worse treatment? Bah. The way I see it, most of it is cherry picking scenarios and overblowing things out of proportion. So much talk, so little actual evidence.

Overreaction. This threats everyone keeps recieveing are hot air. Think for a second who is making them? Kids, drunkard and overemotional people with hair-triggers. Most of them don't mean a thing they posted. Most don't even live anywhere close or have the means to travel half way around the globe just to hurt some stupid person. And most of them won't even know where said person lives. So yeah, you got a bigegr chance to get hit byy a lightining while holding a big metal rod on a roof of a tall building during a thunderstorm than actually come to any real physical harm.

Nah, my condemnation is primarily due to how much of a non-issue this whole fiasco is and yet how these people treat it as the greatest injustice of our times. The fact that so many are quoting 'revolutionary' figures is merely the icing on the cake. Then why are you singling out gamergate supporters? Both sides are gulity of the same crime.

In other words, if romance novels writers would only add blood, t**s and fighting into their novels, they could capture more males as readers? There is no denying that men and women tend to gravitate towards different things. There will always be exceptions of course. You Bruce, are grossly oversimplyfing things as is the article. Things aren't simple. They never are nor were. Marketing is just one part of the story. But history shows trends that date back to long before there even was currency.

A Renaissance of 4X Fantasy RPGs

So neither the Sovereign or the heroes are customizable (and I don't mean equipping stuff on them. I mean, looks, specialization, etc..) Dissapointing, -
Am I the only one who thinks the entire Bayonetta thing is just 100% pure stupid. From frakked up proportions to pistol high-heels to pretty much everything. It's the kind of stupid that I'd normally laugh at, except it's too stupid to do even that.

Endless Space was meh. The combat was uninspireing as was the ship design. Other stuff was pretty good tough. I do notice that Endless Legend has unit design, but I wonder if it's any better than ES. I find it hard to believe it is better then FE: LE unit design, since that really let you customize it in detail, even in appearance. that said, I hope Sorcerer King has the unit design from FE..and I hope you get to design your hero, because quite frankly I hate the current one. -

Most WRPG's had the choice of sex/race for decades. Romances are fairly new, but I personally don't care about romances. "Chages that appeal to the entire fanbase" is a myth. The fanbase isn't a single entity with singular tastes that can be easily pleased. What? How is that an example?

You know, when this whole GamerGate thing started I had no idea what it was about. So I went about looking into this, trying to remain neutral. The experience was sour, to say the least. Both sides harrasing, insulting and producing fake evidence. Or at least elements from both sides. Generalisation is an anathema to a productive and honest discussion, yet it comes natural to us. The world is a complex place. Millions of people with million of wants, ideas and experiences that make them who they are. But such complexity holds too many variables. It's too much to deal with, so our brain simplifies things. Hence why we have generalized groups. Stereotypes. Feminist. Gamer. Otaku. Mysgonist. Liberal. Democrat. Etc... And yes, #gamersgate suporters and anti-#gamersgaters. Each word carries in itself more than just the meaning. It carries a mental image of a member of that group. Usually a negative one, hence why such descriptors are often used as a insult in discussions. The problem is when people start believing those stereotypes and apply them without thought. When people aren't treated as individuals, but rather as some gestalt monstrosity. It's a binary thing. Black and white. If you're with me you're a good guy, if you're against me you're an evil d***! When you think that every member of group X is the same, you fallen into a deep pit. But even worse is a total lack of doubt seen in some discussions on gamersgate. Doubt is useful. It is what keeps us from falling into extreemes, into fanaticism. It's what drives us to re-evaluate our position and hold back from zealotry. And many people I've seen involved show a complete lack of doubt. Not only in their cause, but in everything they do - their methods, their manners. In their eyes, they can do no wrong, for their cause is just. Double standards and hypocrisy is the order of the day. And the saddest part - even total lack of any doubt about knowledge of the other person. The sheer conviction some people have displayed in knowing their "opponents" thoughts, motivations and desires is staggering. Acting like an omniscent mind-reader and disregarding or outright denying anything contrary. They created a mental image of you the second you disagreed with them. And that mental image is absolute. It got to the point of redicule with people claiming to fight for minorities attacking and insulting members of minorities as liers, brainwashed slaves, sell-outs, and so on. I honestly didn't know if I should laugh or cry. I said I tried to be neutral before. Keyword "tried". After days on many forums and reading many discussions, the choice was made for me. Simply put, the #gamersgate side proved (at leasts to me, in my experience) to be one one could have a normal, honest discussion with a lot easier. The anti-gamersgate crowd (the ones I met at least - again, generalisation is bad) do not tolerate neutrality. Heck, I got attacked even when agreeing with them for not agreeing hard enough! No discussion can be had with a side that already believes knows everything, is beyond criticism and is not interested in talking at all. From my experience, #gamergate is not against women or minorities, nor is it for harrasement despite all the talk. So the crusade, fought from noble intentions, ends up misguided and pointless and using horrible methods, ultimatively attacking all who oppose it, even those it claims to protect.

I communicate over the internet because meeting me in RL would overwhelm you. The shining light radiating from me might blind you, the awesome aura of my presence would force you to your knees in reverence. You could do nothing but be lost in my magnificence, becoming my faithful servant forever.

Both sides are a mixed group, but the worst are usually the loudest. Keep that in mind.

Statism - the fundamental dysfunction of our world
TrashMan replied to Malignacious's topic in Way Off-Topic
I'll believe that just as I'm going to believe the moon is made of cheese. For thousands of years children have been spanked and it worked fine. Spanking is one of the tools in the parenting box. It's not the only one, and one that should be rarely used, but to deny or forbid it completely? Sheer, utter folly. It's the same kind of BS as is "video games cause violence in children" or this entire feminisim/gamersgate crap going on now. A bunch of people utterly convinced they are campaiging for a great cause. Studies? Articles? HAH! In this day and age nothing can be trusted anymore. -
Statism - the fundamental dysfunction of our world
TrashMan replied to Malignacious's topic in Way Off-Topic
Wait, there is scientific research that shows how abusing children yields positive results? Ah..that word. "Abuse" No, punishing a child isn't abuse (as long as it's kept to a reasonable minimum). Only idiots would think that a world without parental authority and a world that teaches kids that everything is negotiable is a good world. So no, the studies you mention wont' cover normal parenting, they will only take into account real abuse and use it as a blanket to push their agenda.
