  1. Probably because there's no real harm in it. You get to vent, I get the laughs. All's good.
  2. Wu keeps at it. https://twitter.com/SerialExpansion/status/527099896273190912/photo/1 https://twitter.com/FartToContinue/status/527065276698091520/photo/1 She's a like a one man disaster, wrecking the anti-GG credibility with reckless abadon. You go girl!
  3. I would say things like this HAVE to be taken on a case-by-case basis. You heard of "innocent until proven guilty?", right? The public shaming the man recieved is punishment enough. Terminating a contract is overkill. And if the man said that in his house and Gaben just happen to be outside the window, what then? Would terminating the contract still be OK? And yet they are. Because people who make threats are either overly emotional, drunk or kids. They will calm down in 5 minutes. And even if they don't,even if they really do want to kill Gaben (or whomever), 99% of those won't either have the means to do it (in a different part of the world) or will be sane enough to realize they'd go to jail and drop it. The society already has enough mechnics in place to stop those threats from materializing even when real. Let alone when fake. Interesting, do you feel that kind of outward aggression is out of place? Depends on may factors. What caused anger. How much time has passed. State of mind of the person (drunk, irritated?) If sufficient time has passed, the persons judgment is not impaired by extermal factors and he STILL acts like that? Definitely out of place Otherwise? No. Regrettable and showing poor emotional control, but not really evil or harmful in itself. There is no one else to fault. If I take hostages and you decide to shoot me, killing a hostage, it's not my fault the hostage died. It's yours. There is no such thing as "he FORCED me to make this decision". You took a shot knowing a hostage might be hit. Steam terminated a contract knowing that everyone else in that company - completely innocent - would suffer for it. Sanctioning that guy and that guy alone was the only appropriate action. An enviroment where people don't assume the worst about other people is by definition more relaxed, regardless how aggressive the words used might be. Right now you could make a post "Hey Lotion, you dirty ape. How's your butt hair doing?" and I'd probably respond with something like "this years harvest will be plentiful!"
  4. Bad decision. Again, other people are affected by this. You keep ignoring that point. It was not. A death threat uttered by an angry man, in your face, and with clear possibility of acting on that aggression (since he's right next to you) is not the same as venting on twitter. Let's not forget that 99% of all utterances of "I'll kill X" are never meant and never amount to anything. So why act as if all do? Probably with a "Why?" And a guy venting on the internet makes it pretty safe, now doesn't it? Even if he were angry enough to attack you, he is instead typing it out and venting on the net, miles and miles away from you. I recieved plenty of internet death threats and am still here.
  5. It's not about intent it's about the kind of conduct we want our fellow citizens to uphold. Who wants a situation where it's perfectly ok to throw around death threats "for the lulz"? Me. It was never a real death threat and it was never "for the lulz"... and you know it. It's an overreaction and it's not different from running to ban all the guns when some whacko shoots up a school. That's not what he was doing, now is it? Twitter is in a public domain, but it's public in the same way the balcony of your house is. If you're chatting there anyone passing beneath your balcony can hear you. BUT, they have to actively come beneath your balcony to hear it. They have to SEEK it. The only people who see your tweets are those who are looking at what you are tweeting. Take it with a smile? Depends on how it was said, but no. Burning the guys house? Not right either. I think a general calmer and relaxed attitude does a lot more than a formalized set of enforced rules. All the rules do is to sometimes keep things hidden. By your own words, hasn't Steam escalated the conflict then? A "Dude! Not cool! Calm down. Take a breath." would have been better.
  6. One can critique existing products. But, that also means the critics themselves can be critiqued. Everyone is free to campaign for games and content he wants. However, I draw the line at tying to shame or force people into making your game or not making games you don't like. I also draw the line at blatantly lying to people / your audience.
  7. I call BS on those findings! Everyone knows the real culprit was a #GamerGater!
  8. I'm looking at what is truly important. Was there true malice/evil intent? No. Was there any harm done? No. Is what was done truly unforgivable/horrifying? No. Slap on the wrist and move on. Bloody simple. Here we have a venerable Witch Hunt.
  9. Here, this fanservice is excellent example of mysogony and sexism:
  10. Fair? No. But it's his effin responsibility to suck it up and deal with it. It's why he is Boss and most likely get paid a lot more than the Office cleaners. It's because he is burdened with the responsibility to look after the companys interests first and foremost and not personal indulgences. If he doesn't like it (or can't handle it), he is not the right person to be in that position. He is the one that doesn't seem to care about the well being of the people working there. The whole point of emotional responses is that they generally suppress thinking. Yup, he shouldn't have done it. But saying he doesn't care is a fallacy. And it still doesn't change the fact that while he is responsible for his action, so are people at steam.
  11. If only. If anything people have irrational fear/disdain for anything that might be labeled as "childish" and strive far too much to fit into their image of "adult behavior". To quote: "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." - George Bernard Shaw
  12. I should leave this, but I'm not going to. What's wrong with how he's been judged? The man's an adult. Surely if there's just one thing which measures an adult, it's an ability to moderate one's reactions. You don't have to be a stereotyped Japanese salaryman. Just apply a dash of respect and self-composure. At the very least have the stones not to burst into tears if you fail to live up to the code. Whats wrong? Well, for starters, the fact that all the other people working in the company are suffering too. And for what? Is it really fair for them to face financial ruin because their boss got overly emotional for a moment? Surely you have heard the phrase "be a bigger man". The ball was in steams court. They choose not to be a bigger man and pick a course of action that will have collateral damage. It's as simple as that.
  13. Have you ever cared that games may be sexist? I can't recall you ever being concerned about this in games, maybe you can remind me of times where you have raised this where " game x" was objectifying women or showing them in a way that was demeaning. But anyway its fine if you don't care about sexism in games. The gaming industry, meaning publishers and many developers ,cares and that's all that matters Not really. I told you before - sexist is a loaded buzzword. As are many other words used to stir up contraversy or shock, to convince people that they SHOULD be outraged. I'm not concerned about it because I'm not a social engineer trying to force the world into my thinking patters. "Objectifying women"? HA! What does that even mean anymore? Everything is more or less objectified. Men characters as much as women characters. Demeaning? What is demeaning depends on who you ask and "showing someone in a way I don't like" is not evil/wrong. Do you remember those interviews with some p0rn stars who said that this social outrage is making life from them more difficult? The very SJW's who "fight for women" are demeaning women right there and then. If I see something truly demeaning of women or truly sexist, I avoid that game. I don't like pointless tantalization, nudity or "weak women characters"*, but to these crusaders ANY depiction or instance of a woman that isn't their ideal is basically an attack. But most complaints raised are IMO just a bunch of hot gas. What I don't want to see is a "this is how you must make a game/write a book" manifesto that tries to force-feed me any social or moralistic norms. I want total freedom of creation in the industry. Those who truly respect women should stop treating them as delicate flowers who need constant defense and whos' tender sensibilities must never be offended. Women are stronger both mentally and phisically than so many give them credit for. * what exactly makes a strong woman character is open to debate.
  14. I'm tired of this "games are super-horribly sexist" BS. Sexist is used a buzzword, nothing more. It has lost all meaning. And frankly I don't care anymore. Game is sexist? Good. Let it be. I don't care if a game has women in bikinis or guys in speedos. After all, what about p0rn? Shall we ban p0rn completely? Because the feminists and SJW's will always find something to complain and forget the most basic collary of capitalism: vote with your vallet. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Buy and play other games. There's more than enough out there. But noooo.. the very existence of some games is like an insult to them. Actually, the idea that there are people who play them is probably an insult to them. I for one plan to keep insulting them.
  15. I know very well how the world works Walsh. Doesn't mean I have to like it.
  16. 1) Doesn't change the fact that it's a d*** thing to do. It's not right to fire someone for a slip of the tounge. "He said something not nice about me. Fire him!". Especially not when it affects OTHER people. If that guy was alone in this and alone to bear the consequences, I might even agree with you. 2) Your guess would be wrong. Double that number. I also have a job in the software industry. But maybe I'm just crazy cause I'm considerate of my fellow man and am not quick to condemn them.
  17. Doesn't matter that it was on-line. What if the man was walking on the street complaining to his buddies and the boss was sitting in a caffe? Doesn't matter how the boss found out, now does it? Either way, no harm done to the boss. No harm done to ANYONE. Except for the other poor people working on the game that now suffer. I consider such thing petty.
  18. We how now Anita claiming that it's PROVEN #Gamergate is all about harrassing women! https://twitter.com/femfreq/status/526111569986322432 And of course, that research turns to be so utterly bogus. Newsweek released an article with a conclusion, but the graphs they released prove THEM wrong. https://medium.com/@cainejw/an-actual-statistical-analysis-of-gamergate-dfd809858f68 Oh this is unbelievable!
  19. It wasn't a real threat and both of you know it. Why overreact because someone was venting?
  20. It's not harmless. It's treating a partner in a serious business venture like they've made a mistake - which may not be the case. Even if they have, they deserve consideration. I wouldn't do business with anyone who badmouthed me the first time anything went wrong. Rash and emotional are not qualities which appear on many CVs. There is a reason for this. Except people everywhere are both, they just hide is better I consider denying human nature and holing people to impossible standards an excercise in futility and also living in denial. Let's not forget that the world we live in is downright stupid and obsessed with the wrong things.
  21. When I'm in bed reading or something, and the vacuum is on, I feel like I'm back in the womb. Worm, cozy, relaxed. Bonus points if it's raining outside.
  22. I disagree. It's rash, emotional, but harmless. Face it, we ALL did things like that many times. Is it really fair to be so heavily "punished" for something like that? Also, twitter is public in the way your house with open doors is. It's still your house. One has to come inside to hear what you're saying.
  23. In that case.. Vacuum cleaner. Gives me goosebumps and an overall pleasant, warm feeling. Especially if I'm in the bed when someone is vacuuming.
