  1. Using algorithms to decode the complex phonetic alphabet of sperm whales Just, wow. I can imagine it's like trying to talk to a completely alien race. Where do we even begin?
  2. Yes, Shogun was a pretty historical drama. The live action version of The Tick has been available on FreeVee, so I've been amused by that.
  3. NASA's Advanced Solar Sail Has Successfully Deployed in Space
  4. Yes, easily the best of their live action series, although their animated series were decent at times.
  5. I can only hope they learned a few things about more realistic character level advancement, because spending points on attributes every level seems like a poor way to do it. You end up with very asymmetrical characters.
  6. Yeah, you pretty much need to binge the Rebels series first just for the character development. I've been catching up on the new Bad Batch episodes and it seems like the series has taken a much darker turn (and not just from all the night scenes). But the graphics are quite nice for an animated show.
  7. The Fallout setting seems to be on the satirical side. Plus a little humor doesn't hurt, even in a post-apocalyptic setting. Just look at the first few Terminator movies.
  8. I've played it several times, but never really got into it. It's not party-based and you seem to spend a lot of time with your character walking from place to place. The character building process seems unbalanced, but the game has a lot of unique detail. For me, a comparable game play-style-wise would be Divine Divinity, although I enjoyed DD much more.
  9. I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I still find the Dune (2000) mini-series was the most faithful to the actual novels. It doesn't have the visual fireworks you see in the films, of course, but a longer TV series can cover the more mental aspects that made the books work.
  10. Started watching Extraordinary on Hulu. It's effing hilarious. British humour. Rated MA.
  11. I finished up the Loki series on Disney. For a god of mischief, that outcome sure seems like a less than desirable day job. But okay... Why do fantasy stories (almost) always seem so utterly random? They're basically "random sh*t happens", the end.
  12. Funny, I used to really enjoy the stuff that Whedon put out on screen. But now, knowing what we know, it's all got a creepy edge to it. But yeah, Dollhouse was a pretty good series. I wouldn't mind a remake with a longer run.
  13. Personally I prefer not to shoot up the tanks. Just let the fish swim in peace.
  14. At the time I had a sense that the game suffered a lot of criticism on release and didn't sell as well as expected. That may be why we didn't see a sequel. However, the responses seem better these days so perhaps there will be growing nostalgia?
  15. Yes, I've tried some of them; a few are quite good. They can suffer a bit from balance issues though. Perhaps from a lack of play testing?
  16. Yes, I've finished most of that campaign now. It's pretty decent, about on a par with the other Solasta campaigns. I'm not sure how much I want to finished the final slog though. The best part is the new add-on tilesets and other features that are sure to start showing up in user modules. It might even be possible to build an Icewind Dale-like campaign now.
  17. "The Hundred Years War" by Jonathan Sumption, or at least the first volume thus far. It's a lengthy read.
  18. PROJECTing a victory by MICHIGAN in their bowl game...
  19. I caught this via a posting on ModDB: there's a kickstarter underway for Undershadows, which bills itself as a 'horror adventure RPG'. Considering the low financial goals and hand-drawn graphics, this game actually seems surprisingly creative and artistic. It's targeted at a young audience though. There's a demo available.
