  1. Monkeypox. It's like chickenpox, only racist. Because it has monkeys in the name? Apparently.
  2. We watched the film Archive this weekend. It was a pretty good classic sci-fi movie. The pacing and style reminded me a lot of Moon, and if you liked that movie you'll probably enjoy this one. There were parts of the movie that didn't quite make sense and left me scratching my head, up until suddenly it all made perfect sense.
  3. Right, sanitation. Which is the point of the mask wearing. Just because we could let the virus run rampant through the population doesn't mean we should. There's a net negative impact on the economy from too many people being out sick.
  4. For me it was always about the hospitalization rate. If you can keep the rate manageable without a lockdown, then you should consider avoiding a lockdown because it can do more harm than good. That's probably where the US is now, although mask requirements can still be helpful as a pre-emptive measure.
  5. What this does is provide stronger physical evidence of the origin and weakens (but does not eliminate) the lab hypothesis. When a skeptic asks, "where's the proof?", they can now be pointed to this study.
  6. Newly published evidence points to Wuhan seafood market as pandemic origin point What I wonder is whether they can back-track the animal origins from the market? But I'd imagine the trail has grown pretty cold at this point.
  7. The Clockwork Dynasty by D. H. Wilson. Interesting stuff; kind of a tale about steampunk robots hiding in plain sight while fighting a civil war lasting many millennia.
  8. Will we see a museum of talking portraits? Looks kind of creepy for some reason.
