  1. Making the rounds: "Don't forget to set your clocks back 300 years tonight."
  2. Perhaps not surprisingly, some people consider Americans to be too WEIRD. Apparently it's an abbreviation employed in studies of behavioral science, meaning: Western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic.
  3. I like a cRPG that can hold my interest. Otherwise it doesn't really matter how long it is.
  4. I prefer my Romans in a more classic setting.
  5. In my mind, he may well prove to be the last of the classy presidents. I'll remember him and his spouse in a positive light.
  6. I can feel sympathy for Manning because of the bullying, messed up family, and psychological issues. Not sure I agree with commuting the sentence though. There's plenty of other messed up individuals in prison.
  7. "You know, there's going to be sex, drugs, rock-n-roll... chips, dips, chains, whips... You know, your basic high school orgy type of thing. I mean, uh, I'm not talking candlewax on the nipples, or witchcraft or anything like that, no, no, no. Just a couple of hundred kids running around in their underwear, acting like complete animals." -- Weird Science
  8. Very plausible? Only in so far as one believes the classical Hollywood portrayal of mental illness. I've worked for years in psychiatry and I've never heard of or seen anything that even closely resembled the family or protagonist. Also, in what way did the narrative hold together? Even when 'adjusting' for the 'unreliable narrator', it was painfully obvious that the writers had gone to the 'Lost' school of plotline coherence.. Why does that matter in the slightest? It doesn't have to be plausible to a profession psychiatrist, only to a TV viewer with a lay persons knowledge of psychiatry. It held together for myself and others I discussed it with. Sorry, I can't explain why it didn't for you.
  9. It completly falls apart in the next episodes. I was pretty dissapointed and wish I'd ditched it around episode 6. I've quite enjoyed the series, primarily for the character development and the plot twists. It's a very plausible portrayal of a mentally ill protagonist, which is a big part of what makes it confusing to follow at times. For me the story held together well, even if the main scenario is unlikely. Obviously it isn't for everybody.
  10. I binge-watched Beyond over the holiday break. Not sure if it's good or not, but it did at least keep drawing me back to watch the next episode. The People of Earth sci-fi sit-com was enjoyable in a quirky sort of way. Too bad it's only 10 episodes. I liked most of the cast, particularly Wyatt Cenac and Ken Hall, the butt-head alien Jeff the Grey.
  11. I'd like to see more distinctiveness between the races. For example, unique, race-specific talents, spells, deities, gear, languages, &c. Draakensang, for example, has spells that are only available for elves and others that are human only. The game as a whole seemed fine to me and doesn't need a major overhaul.
  12. I'm staying sober this year, but best wishes to everybody in 2017!
