  1. yeah and like 1k people will care about it without a video. Again there is a reason why ign, gamespot, polygon and co are switching to more and more videos. Do quicklooks, do video previews etc. No one reads these article anymore except the hardcore fan. And even than it is the exception. The event is over. Complaining about it is not going to change whatever content is in the articles. No out maybe prevent further mistakes down the line? I can not change what Obsidian did at E3. I only can try to prevent another incident like that. Also I can not believe that people actually think this game has mainstream appeal? No it has absolutely not. It is for RPG nerds like I am one. It is not for the Mass effect Bioware crowd. That kind of audience does not even want to read anything at all ac coring to Bioware. This is the last I'm going to respond to you, because I'm going in circles now, but I don't think it's up to you to decide what is best for Obsidian.

  3. Not to be forum police or anything, but this really isn't the thread for that. This is about the boxed copy price differences.
  4. Mhm. Have you tried to sell an editor on the idea that your personal "conviction" about, I don't know.. quality craftmanship will dictate whether or not the writing would generate interest with the readership? Or, if that failed, tried to argue that at least that is how it should be, and that the magazine would nevertheless gain a reputation for fronting solidly built titles. Which would be valuable. Since doing that would demonstrate how the magazine has some sort of grounding other than the next sponsorship deal, or the next heavily marketed titles in an attempt to create the biggest ditto-headlines. If you have, and succeeded, or haven't and are convinced you can find an editor who will buy this -- go ahead and send me the details, and I'll send them my resume. If not -- then I'm not really that interested in hearing about thoroughly benign salesmen who are simply interested in "making the best of what we have", to "sell the product as easily as possible", while "being absolutely clear on who has creative vision", and so on, Bryy. Because if your business is to generate public interest. And you have no avenues in the mainstream press where your product can actually achieve that. Then -- if you still attempt to go that way, you're either incompetent, or you are deliberately trying to fail. I mean, that's why Paradox uses youtube a lot. That's why they're practically invisible to the mainstream press, but still get sales. But no. Let's pretend that writers engaged with the big sites are going to actually describe the game without prefacing it with: "An outdated concept that none of you will like - but hey, let me give you this pity pitch for your amusement anyway!". "Here's how your grandfather's games looked like!". I'll tell you what's fascinating: that the idea that e3 is where you go to show off your creative vision, to enthrall and fascinate people looking for such things, is still alive. After 15 Call of Duty games. That's amazing to me. .... You do know that kind of proved my point of my last post, right?
  5. I'm not a backer and I still think the way Obsidian handled E3 was grossly unfair towards backers. After all, people invested their money (I know by KS rules it's not legally an investment but de-facto it is) It's de facto legally an investment when it is an investment. Oh for god's sake...this is why you shouldn't speculate. PoE is not putting Obsidian out of business. They've been around for awhile. They know how to stick to a budget. Why do you think the Paradox deal is an indication of financial problems? They did that deal because marketing/distribution are an annoying pain in the butt. It makes perfect sense to bring a company with expertise in such things. A game studio of Obsidian's size needs several games in the pipeline simultaneously to stay in business. South Park, PoE, Armored Warfare, Skyforge, etc. That's just a dev studio doing what a dev studio does. If Feargus Urquhart is doing his job, he spends most of his day on the phone or in meetings trying to drum up new business. Of course, they want PoE's presentation to be perfect because they want to sell as many copies as possible. That means expanding the audience beyond the original backers. Nothing mysterious or nefarious about it, just good business. To assume Obsidian just whipped up a game out of thin air is ridiculous.
  6. I have so many horror stories of people in real life and online talking about how they are forced to buy all the different pre-order versions of the game in order to have the full thing, which doesn't even make sense because you can't combine them.
  7. Kickstarter is not going to replace the publisher system. It will never do that, and should never do that.
  8. I think they just mean that they have the freedom to do what they want, nothing more. Sex and romance and foul words are a part of life, and censors make it very hard to tell a natural story if you have a bunch of stuff you can't say on TV. Also:
  9. I think you missed the part where he wants Blood Dragon 2.
  10. Wants to see gameplay ASAP. But not publishers. Wants the devs to give them specific things at the expense of everyone else's experience. But not publishers. Threaten to pull money. But not publishers.
  11. Social Justice Warrior. I played it to figure out how much it is like my game. Verdict: it's not, but the conversation/battle system is the same idea. I know that by saying it's not a very good game, I'll seem like I'm ****ting on the competition. And ultimately I like the general idea. But it's simply not there, and the fact that it is finished leaves me saddened. The Good: * The class system: Cleric (gains their power from various deities/forums), Mage (blogger), Rogue (basically a Good Troll), and Paladin (average forum user) * Reputation system (the higher the Rep, the more powerful your attacks; out-of-character or strawmen get you negative Rep) * Sanity/health constantly decreases * each class has a different set of responses * Both you and your current enemy have the same animation and art The Bad: * no real benefit for either class; no progression * no indicator of what response would net the best result * your selection of responses are always the same and only descriptions, never actual lines of dialogue * the enemy seems to draw from an RNG for replies and statements, so each new statement they spout at you makes further less sense in context of what they said before * there is no logical flow to the conversations * ultimately, it becomes a game of trial and error rather than skill and focus
  12. Armored Mounts =/= Horse Armor. Pre-order content =/= DLC.
  13. That's.... fine? You continue to act like you spending your own money is somehow Obsidian's fault. Also, I assume by putting quotes around big money, that's code for "I'm not going to buy the game on release! I'll wait for the sale! That will REALLY show EA!".
  14. We have never said we wouldn't allow Twitch streams or YouTube videos of the backer beta. Please stop spreading this because it is completely untrue. We will encourage people to share their beta experiences with as many people as they can. I know that devs rarely speak on these subjects (squabbles on the forums) for a variety of reasons, so I highly appreciate you taking the time out of your day to talk about it. AAA games are called AAA because of the budget, not the way business is handled. Just a clarification.
  15. Yeah, comparing a game that was in alpha at the Kickstarter versus one that is just in Alpha now is all sorts of ridiculous.
  16. I also think it's important to remember just how stupid a phrase Social Justice is. Or rather, how stupid it is that we've turned it into a negative.
  17. It was probably better than Jobs. So, do they continue the running gag from the trailers and poster that it is a shameless sequel?
  18. I don't think I'll be buying anything unless prices are really low. Humble, Amazon, GOG, GMG (especially now with PlayFire), and even Origin have better deals at this point.
  19. Darji, you still fail to grasp the concept of a Non-Disclosure Agreement. It's a legal measure to protect a product from competitors. There is nothing nefarious about it. It is a common practice for any business. The press embargo is up next week (same day as the Steam Sale - coincidence? I THINK NOT). So your indignation is incredibly transparent.
  20. My friend seems to think this is all orchestrated BS and that Ubi at the last second will say they caved and "reveal" a female playable. I'm skeptical because if they were going to do that I doubt they would have been so moronic in their replies.
