  1. Fallout 3 --> Same setting, different gameplay Torment promises to be ---> Different setting, similar gameplay
  2. using nostalgia for a cash grab. I lol'd at the hypocrisy. I gladly support these kickstarters. And fully expect half of them to fail. It'll be worth it for that one possible baldur's gate/planescape...
  3. Good reason to change the setting, then, dontcha think? Also, not even Feargus is above blaming the publishers.
  4. Yeah, but you're point is that you wish this game to fail, because it uses the Torment name and wants to be similar. I want it to succeed at what it strives to do. Especially now that it's already funded. Don't you want a game similar to Torment that's good? And if by tenuous connections, you mean practically everyone except Avellone(who strongly supports it) working on it...
  5. What if it isn't true? Then he's lying? In which case it's obvious bad form. What's your point? But you know, based on his speech in Unity, and based on other developer's(like Obsidians) comments about publishers, I wouldn't be surprised if it were true.
  6. How dare they attempt to create a franchise in the style of PS:T. HOW DARE THEY?!? No one wants this.
  7. Well, if what he says is true, then I'm all for him calling the publishers out on it.
  8. Why is it not called Planescape: Tides of Numenera? Because the setting is not Planescape. It's Numenera. Hence: Torment: Tides of Numenera. It's not that hard. They want to make Torment a thematic franchise. They don't want to be confined to the Planescape setting, ergo they call it Torment.
  9. I see what you did there.
  10. Doesn't really bother me in theory either. But, this is EA. In 5 years their single-player 60 dollar games will be pay2win.
  11. Alright, I checked both the Torment threads if this link existed there and didn't see it, but I assume most of you have already seen it and just haven't shared. Anyway, the official website: https://torment.inxile-entertainment.com/ Not much info yet, but it seems alright.
  12. Axis of evil. Why not invite Activision in while they're at it.
  13. The problem is when all the games are already downscaled using their video options to work on consoles. Adding these features to a PC version is childs play for a studio. Hell, Dark Souls port was terrible, but the high-res textures took about a day to unlock by modders. They were already in the files. All the games are made in high-res, then downscaled. It's not really any effort to add a video option to make use of the stuff already in the files.
  14. Yeah, my two links weren't really "news" as such. This is fun to read, though: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121756-Massive-EVE-Online-Superbattle-Blocks-The-Stars One guy accidentally jumps to enemy space and suddenly 3000 players are battling it out.
  15. http://www.shacknews.com/article/77584/dead-space-3s-pc-port-defended-by-its-executive-producer http://www.shacknews.com/article/77491/dead-space-3-to-include-microtransactions Oh yes. Totally worth 60 dollars/euros. Please, tell me more how microtransactions are a good idea in a singleplayer game, and how not having video options is good for consumers.
  16. I find it interesting that Sega caught Relic after this tidbit a few months back: http://www.creative-assembly.com/sega-and-creative-assembly-announce-partnership-with-games-workshop-to-create-warhammer-games/
  17. I fail to see the difference.
  18. You're assuming that he's talking about D&D tabletop players. That's a fraction of their target audience. Personally, I think D&D 4th ed. introduced a ton of good features, without killing what D&D is. However, one of the most common complaint for 4th Ed. is that it's too much like a video game. So, the fact that a video game would seem similar to 4th Ed. by default should not be surprising. I don't really care either way. If they think it will provide good combat, then I trust them. They are gamers themselves, so I hope they can be self-critical enough to change if they notice they've gone down a wrong path and stay the course when they're on the right one.
  19. The ads pay for a chunk of the device itself, not for the books.
  20. You can with a kindle. Don't see a reason why it wouldn't work with others.
  21. WarZ also copy pasted League of Legends TOR: http://img.gawkerass...pg/original.jpg They threaten consumers who want refund: http://i.imgur.com/t6F9c.jpg The map is not even over 100 square km(which the gamespy reporter assumed it was). It's between 10 to 40. http://www.pcgamesn....-big-war-zs-map Claimed to be in development for 2 years. Actually only 6 months. http://warzscam.tumb...lasted-6-months Ripped images from Walking Dead: http://kotaku.com/59...he-walking-dead One of the devs started this thread: http://forums.thewar...at-do-you-think (that worked out well) Criticism towards the game was censored at one point, think they've given up now. Here's a smart guy circumventing it: http://img.gawkerass...arzthoughts.png (think vertical) The game is no longer buyable on Steam. Sergey Titov, the guy who's done all the interviews now has the dubious honor of having the worst critic reviewed game on metacritic(Big Rigs) AND lowest user scored game(WarZ). Poor guy. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/big-rigs-over-the-road-racing http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/the-war-z
  22. Basically giving Europe, where 16:10 is normal, the finger? I doubt Obsidian would be that dickish. At least I hope they're not. I prefer 16:10 because it saves me a lot of time scrolling.
  23. I agree that this works well for video games, were you indeed control a whole party and you have always stuff to do and adding too much may become a chore. Dragon Age worked around this to some degree so that you could program your guys to do their abilities so you could focus on playing the ones you wanted to play. This could be a good idea. Boss fights always demanded more micro management, but for regular mobs, the party AI worked well. And that's how it should be. However, as a tabletop game saying "He's a fighter, sure he does the same attack always, but that's fighters do, right?" is just horribly boring.
