I don't think he has a problem with traps. I think he has a problem with the fact that they are only included because people expect them to be there. Also the fact that their implementation is crap, it always has been in these games. Traps should not be like this Step 1: Sneak around until I find trap Step 2: Try to disarm trap Step 3: Was trap disarmed? If so, continue on, process complete If not, send tank to trigger trap, go to next step Step 4: Rest or use healing items/spells to recover from trap Process Complete If you are going to use traps it needs to be better than that ^^^^^. Make the traps be like from that first area in Eternity, the cave/ruins of Cilant Lis. That was how you should do a trap. If you can't do it that way every time, just don't bother including them as they aren't fun or interesting for the player. Maybe you can have the generic boring ones, but if you do, keep them only to limited moments when it makes absolute sense for their to be a trap. Not just this is a dungeon so it needs some random ass traps. Seriously, who would trap up a hallway that leads to say the only way to go upstairs? Or trap up every path leading to a room they are living in? No one in the real world, crap tons of people in Baldur's Gate like RPG land.

I honestly can't believe how janky the whole Steam system has become. Not that it at some point wasn't. But reviews should be based on games, and should not be susceptible to publisher policy changes. I've never put huge stock into steam reviews, but I know that some people do... User reviews should always be ignored for the most part. Especially when they involve any IP or company that is known. If you have to read some you need to dig for the reviews that sound like they were written by someone objective, that focuses on the product, not a business policy, or how they feel about the companies involved, or one specific small part of a game. Let's not forget all the lovely examples out there proving user reviews are no more (probably less) useful or valid than professional reviews. Like Mass Effect 3, it still sits at a 5.9 user score on metacritic, which in video game terms means it is a steaming pile of cow poop supposedly. Despite the fact that it is actually a good game, just the ending upset some people.

So funny story, thanks to random google nonsense I found this thread again. it is really hilarious to see how close some of these suppositions turned out to be. I would have thought "return of Waidwen (eothas)" was a strong maybe. But never would have guessed option 4 "adra monster (giant freaking adra statue)" and Return of Waidwen would get combined. Also I turned out to be wrong about returning companions, except for Aloth, I did predict he may show back up.

I think in Eternity the reason the expansion happens along side the main game instead of after is just a pure case of "ending effect itis". Depending on your choices the ending of Eternity can have huge impact on your characters, and the Dyrwood. Some of it would be fairly immediate as well. I suspect it was just easier to not have to design around that, and they didn't want to do a "but wait all those changes we claimed happened, didn't happen :D" sort of thing by letting you play after the end.

Sabres it really depends, they could be top heavy, but they also could not be. Depends on the construction. Weapons like the ones I mentioned also all had some form of full hand covering hilt, as people stopped wearing metal gloves. They didn't call crossbows "Knight Killers" because plate armor was all that effective against them. With the gun technology in Eternity (they have freaking pistols and cannon) historically speaking they are well past the age of plate armor.

Actually if anything the dagger makes sense as a major weapon in Eternity. With the advent of firearms (not to mention the cross bow) heavy armor because largely pointless, because those weapons could punch right through it. Thus people started wearing lighter more mobile armor, and when in melee started using lighter more flexible weapons. Like the Rapier, Sabre, or "Side" Sword.

Fair enough, but it is way easier to do it with a legit Dagger than it is with a pencil, or a steak knife. In all seriousness though, there is a reason modern military forces only have swords for dress, but still make many of their soldiers carry bayonets, or drop point knives. AKA: modern versions of the dagger.

You character already has a special name though. Literally it is their name, no one else in the game will have it. And arguably a special title as you are a "Watcher", and the "Lord of Caed Nua" (well you used to be :D). Do you need a special class name too?

Paladins with daggers are one of the viable builds for the ultimate achievement. Now part of that is the Flick of the Wrist talent, but paladins with daggers are downright nasty. There's a bounty with them and they're very durable while having a respectable damage output. It may be a little gamey, but it works. Also don't forget the group it fits best for. Priest of Skaen, makes absolute sense for one of them to use a dagger. Edit: Thinking about it I also suspect some people confuse "dagger" with "knife". A Knife is what you use to peel apples, and cut up a piece of bread or steak. A Dagger is a tool for combat meant to kill another person. Case in point, this is a dagger. Nothing about that weapon is weak, one thrust to the right spot would be all it takes. Also dagger blades are long, that one is 10 inches or so, but they could be 15 even 16 inches and still be daggers. Most "daggers" you see in modern media are way smaller than they should be, that thing in the picture if stabbed in a spine would punch through the chest.

That is not the word I would use. I would have said "god awful". Adam is showing his professionalism in that interview big time. I wanted to slap the guy when he made the "and suikoden 4 switched to a ship, and it was the worst game in the series!" comment, I can't even imagine how Adam or Mikey felt.

Looks great, can't wait to get hands on with the game! That said, this is honestly hilarious to, I actually think the "smaller" watercolor portraits looks universally better for everyone. Even Maia, Aloth, and the Watcher, whose normal portraits looked fine. Eder does look a little worse, but it is still okay. Pallegina is a much worse portrait over what existed before, which is really odd. Combat looked much improved over all, and the effects in general were stellar.

This has become cliche. They can have a couple of people at E3 and the rest of the team working back in the studio. A couple of days of absense of a couple of people of the team won't change anything for the production. Especially when you consider that the people sent to events like E3 are community facing, meaning their primary job is Public Relations. Going to things like E3 is literally what they are paid to do.

I was thinking about this thread earlier today, and it inspired an idea for another zany weapon. We need a multi headed flail, made of rusty brownish corroded iron, that has a proc chance to explode with a cloud of noxious gas and fumes dealing light damage and major debuffs to anyone inside it. We call the weapon, the Fartknocker.
-
You guys know a harpoon is a legit weapon and not zany or unusual at all right? So serious suggestion time (not that we should let Bloodborne doing it first stop the tentacle arm), how about an eyepatch that actually enables you to focus and project soul energy out of it. Basically.... lazer beams out of your eyepatch. And before the no humor committee shows up, I know that I misspelled laser. It was on purpose for comedic effect.

You understand that taking a sword blow to your bare head is still a ton worse than taking a sword blow to your head through a cooking pot? No one is saying it is "ideal", people are saying that there are many times in history where peasants had to do what they had to do. Like I said, a peasant doesn't have a battle ready helmet in his drawers right beside his spare pants. Also I did say Pot Lid in my original post, which is supposedly what all this spun off of. So I wasn't talking about using cooking pots for helmets, I was talking about using the thick wooden lid of a large cooking pot as an improvised buckler. Either way why not take this back on topic and discuss weird weapon ideas instead of debate what a peasant would or would not have done to get buy in the case of an armed conflict.

You say my comments are crazy, yet suggest a boat oar. Did you know one of the most famous duels in Japanese history was fought by a guy who choose to use a boat oar instead of a sword? His opponent was well known for owning and using a very long bladed katana, the oar was the easiest way to get a longer weapon since they were fighting on a small island. The guy with the oar won. Boat oar as weapon? Not so silly.

Personally I agree with posters here, this is not how to ask for a release date update, and this is too early to even be asking. It is unreasonable to expect they have reached a point in development now where they can do anything more than make a guess. That said, I hate it when people post "it's ready when it's ready". This give them all the time in the universe attitude some people have toward game development is just plain bad. 1: Game companies are businesses, businesses need to make money, and if you aren't releasing a game you aren't bringing in any money. 2: People tend to deliver better results when they are under a reasonable amount of pressure, because employees who know they can take all the time in the world often do just that. 3: There is no real evidence to indicate that longer dev cycles lead to better games, and there is evidence that indicates the opposite might be true. 4: Longer dev cycles do lead to higher costs, higher costs are harder to recuperate, and that means you are going to make less profit. So no, Obsidian, please don't take all the time in the world. Work hard to get it done in a reasonable time frame. Now, what is that time frame? I would guess it is probably first, or second quarter 2018.

I really don't get why people think the Larder Door is out there, it is a big ass door converted into a shield. It makes perfect sense. Where do you guys think the "pot lid" helmet thing came from? Sometimes a farmer or peasant had to fight, and they didn't have chainmail, with a nice coif, a peaked bascinet, a broadsword, and a metal heater shield in the cupboard. People have to use what is at hand.

Yo what gives? Katrina didn't scream about shooting someone in the cooter even one time in this video. I demand to know who this doppelganger in the video is, and what have you done with the real Kat? Also of course... Awww Yiss... Ducks. EDIT: And on a more serious note.... so how easy is it to mod that boring wood bottom bar this time :D?
