Simple RPG math

Wait wut? They delayed Red Dead Redemption 2? Life sucks..... -
That isn't any issue. This game takes place years after the events of Eternity 1, regardless of how Eder (or anyone else) ends up, it won't be hard for Obsidian to come up with a reason for the three returning companions to all be visiting Caed Nua at the same time. It isn't like you aren't all old friends, and Caed Nua is located at a cross roads.

I am not sure I agree. From a pacing perspective dropping you in the middle of the biggest city, with the most going on, right at the beginning is actually pretty bad. There is a reason games like the Elder Scrolls always start in a small village, that tells you how to get to a nearby decent town, that then sort of mentions where the big city is. You want to ease the player in, you don't want to drop them in the middle of everything immediately. There is no doubt the pacing of Eternity 1 was bad, and it took too long to get to the main city/technically second town. But Baldur's Gate 2 really wasn't any better. Get through a dungeon and poof, here is god knows how many quests, 5+ new party members, tons of stores, more lore and goings on in the first 3 hours than most games have in the first 10, etc etc. It was content overload. It would be more ideal if your first landing in deadfire is just a smaller town, that happens to be close to Dyrwood than all the rest, and happens to be a gateway or trading port with light faction presence of multiple types. This enables you to get your initial faction/region exposure on a small scale, "restock", and get some intel on where you could go within deadfire next.

Excuse you, hearing "can't wait to count out your coin" from every 3rd bandit was the highlight of Skyrim. Too bad I never heard these comments from bandits! I was too quick to kick them in the head until they were dead, nyhuhuhuhuhuha! After all, we must all know by now that the only good surfacer is a dead surfacer!

I don't know that I concur. Fig is a new platform, many people don't know about it yet, and some don't like it because of it's no paypal restrictions etc etc. I can't help but feel Eternity 2 also didn't get as much press from gaming sites this time. Despite all that, it still ended up making more money in the initial funding period than Eternity 1.

It isn't that shocking. She has sort of a weird smirk, she is doing an odd pose, etc etc. The other Eternity characters that have had concept images (like Eder) are all standing in fairly natural ways. Many of them don't even have weapons drawn. She is definitely a little more adventurous than the other concepts.

Exactly. I think a big problem is also people have a misconception about what anime is. In short, it is just Japanese animation. If it is animated, and it came from Japan, it is fair to call it anime. Not all forms of anime look the same, they just tend to have "similar characteristics". Example: Versus this Funny story, those are the same six characters, from the same show. It is just the first picture they used a different drawing style as a one off, for comedic purposes.

LOL! So by that definition Nightmare Before Christmas, Harley Quinn (from Batman), Insaniac (from Small Solidiers) and Gex are anime.... Aside those few, there are literally tons of different art styles/character designs out there that feature the very same things you mention but sadly, people only acknowledge anime to having them. As if anime was the first art style to popularize or introduce these things to a general public - it wasn't, anime is just using things currently like everything else so I'd argue that anything is anime-inspred... unless it's a waifu fighter, visual novel/dating sim or Jrpg of course. That's pretty much about it. If we keep going, next Soul Calibur will be anime-inspired because of Ivy and Starfox will be furry inspired Nice jumping of the shark. Seriously, she is an anime looking character. Get over it. Her eyes are laughably huge, she literally looks like a cartoon, her head is too big, her hair is actually animated for some reason, not to mention huge, her proportions are no where near realistic, and all her dialog confirms she is a walking cliche. Yes, that is pretty animeish, and all of those features are common in cliche anime heroines. Well maybe not the weird moving hair thing. All you are are really noticing is the fact that bad character design is consistent across all cultures, so it is easy to see crappy anime characters in western media, and vice versa. Also in case you forgot your animation history, the father of American animation Walt Disney was inspired by Osamu Tezuka who made Astro Boy, not the other way around. I can't even begin to tell you how many "American" cartoon shows I grew up watching were actually anime. Such as the king of all "American" Kids Cartoon shows, GI Joe. If you want a more comprehensive description of what her design is, without any cultural indicators, I can give it to you in one word. "Crap". Also you do realize Soul Caliber is made by Bandai-Namco (or is it Namco-Bandai, I can never remember) right? A Japanese company, whose original games artists are all definitely Japanese, making characters designed to look like anime characters? Or did you think this concept art was a Western design?

Lol I just watched that darksiders 3 trailer for the first time, anyone accusing that thing of being an Anime trope is WELL within their rights. Cartoony looks, ridiculously proportioned, stupid smirk, highly arrogant condescending dialog/tone, the only box she didn't check was boob plate, but her armor was overly elaborate and goofy looking enough.

In all honesty, I am a fan of anime, I actually mod a forum for the largest anime streaming site in the United States, I have poked mucho fun at the Great Ydwin Debacle of 2017, and I can tell you there is nothing anime about Ydwin, or any other character in Eternity. She has glasses, so what? She has a skirt..... uh no, she has a leather gambeson that has a cloth padding under it. She has a rapier and is striking a pose, so is every other weirdo with a rapier in the Deadfire????? Other than the glasses, if I left out "she" from those descriptions I could have been talking about the three musketeers, or Inigo Montoya. Are they anime characters too? If there was a cliche driven character in any game Obsidian has made it would likely be from the Baldur's Gate games, or Alpha Protocol, maybe Neverwinter Nights. All of which are actually good games in my opinion. Let people have their fun, no one still on this topic actually thinks she is an "anime trope 23" character.

Old Gromnir just threw me under the bus! I feel like I am at work now But yes, the original posting for fighter sounded very mmo'y. And the original fighter in Eternity was very mmo'y. I am not sure where all the classes ended up is better than where they started though. A lot of mechanics changed in a big way, and I am not totally sure all those changes were for the best reasons. That said don't buy this "enemies totally ignore engagement" hot air either. Enemies will not ignore it, on higher difficulties that may happen in some scenarios, but most enemies will still stay in melee with a front liner if they get engaged and are melee enemies themselves. That said, you put a tank, and a squishy melee side by side, they may switch to the squishy since doing that doesn't break engagement.

I know it isn't the same thing but Serafen I think can either be a barbarian or cipher. *shrug* In the first game the original intent was to have the orlan cipher detective be a companion, but that got scrapped for Grieving Mother. I have to admit, that was the one mistake they made with companions in game one. GM was so disconnected from the actual plot, she made no sense as a companion. Fortunately Eternity 2 seems to be way less focused on Animancy. So we shall see.

I don't know, my current Avatar sort of sums up my opinion. I think they worked fine and had personality. That said, for Eternity, I think the water color portraits are more in line with the feel of the game and will work well.

Here is the thing, people are getting too excited over it. In the original Eternity Kickstarter Forton was advertised as one of the original companions. He is on the key art, the box art, the mousepad, etc etc. What happened to him? Name change, slight art change, and ended up as an expansion character. Let's not even get into what they did to poor poor Cadegund. Just because someone is being touted as a character or sidekick in the kickstarter doesn't mean they will actually make the game, or that their appearance in the game won't be different. I am confident Obsidian knows how dumb it would be to make a side kick magically become a full companion in the expansion. If they choose to make a currently advertised sidekick into a full on companion in the expansion I have no doubts that they will vanish from the sidekick list.

Soooooo.... what you guys are saying is that Maia is taking advantage of Xoti's unconcious state to teabag her? Yes, that is exactly what I am saying.
