  1. philares3, I do not understand why you are stuck at lvl 3. I usually do the Raedric quest at party level 4, sometimes higher and I have even skipped it altogether. In order to get the quest you had to do at least some of the Gilded Vale sub-quests. Did you sleep at the inn, have the vision of the dwarf woman hanging on the tree, then go talk to her? That should open up the "Old Watcher" quest for yo. Then you can pick up Eder as a companion if you wish. Could you give us more information on what you have done? You could even start thread asking for help. Most gamers love to help other gamers. Makes us feel good.
  2. Zwiebelchen, I am going to make a guess that you are from one of the North European countries which has a pitch accent. I have noticed that it doesn't always translate well into written English. It is important that we all remember that tone is hard to convey when writing. Your English is very good and so people may not realize that it is your second language. While tone is important in spoken English it is not a pitch language. Now back on topic. I think we are pretty much in agreement. Regarding Wael the only way I think he can lose in PoE is if the Devs decided to give us pat answers, try to tie the subject up in some neat package. "And they lived happily ever after" as the fairy tales go. If Wael loses we all lose because when we stop asking questing, seeking for further knowledge we stop growing and become stagnant. I am making an assumption about the Egwithians that they are a normal mortal society which means they are layered. By that I mean there would be a relative few who brilliant scientists and there would be those who just accepted what ever they were told. As far as I can tell from what is in the story Soul Essence is simply some kind of energy. It comes alive when infused into a being with a mind. That probably isn't stated well. If this were SceFi instead of fantasy the Egwithians could have created computers and infused those computers with soul essence. However the programs seem to have a few bugs in them Except for Theos the Egwithians seem to have vanished. However the Egwithians formed the gods I do see them trying to make themselves into gods or at least create gods in their image and likeness. Either they failed or they were plenty flawed themselves. Maybe there were different schools of though.
  3. The priest Nedham is behind a locked door so that may be your problem I never have sided with Osyra so I have no idea if there is a bug. Can you fight your way down to the Throne Room? I understand it is a very tough fight to get there that way but others have done it.
  4. There are several threads concerning the gods. I am taking the skeptic path and asking myself "how much of what we are told cannn we believe?" The following are opinions I have arrived at based on what is said in the game and other discussions on this forum. 1) The soul is the important theme in the game. All power comes from it, Magical power, mind power, Will, Resolve everything that goes into making a humanoid and also what animates things such as spores, ooze, animals etc. It seems to be tied to Adra in some way but I do not think this is ever actually explained. 2) The Egwithians created the gods using Egwithian souls because they believed that they knew what was best for the people of the world. To me this says that they wished to be the gods of the Eora. They did worship the gods but became the gods themselves. 3) The gods are real. They have the capacity to think, reason, feel. They do have power. 4) The Kith of Eora do worship them as the Egwithians intended. 5) We end the game with more questions unanswered than answered. The god Wael wins this round.
  5. I have had three day notice and if it comes when for some reason there is noise in the game game, a battle say, I may not notice the noise alert and may also miss the fact that the stronghold icon is lit up. It may also come when I am doing a quest that takes a little time. Travel time can eat into the time needed to get back. I have left the stronghold to travel a day or plus somewhere only to arrive and find that a attack is due soon on the stronghold and have to travel back to face it. It is a bit annoying. Also to have the party get at least minor fatigue for all the traveling needed. I do think the stronghold needs a bit of re-balancing.
  6. For me the quest "Lord of a Barren Land" is the hardest to decide what to do. Raedric is the lawful ruler of the area and he takes his duties as Thayne very seriously. He does want what is best for the area. He is convinced that what he is doing is right. Kolsc tries to persuade you that Raedric is evil but he isn't completely open with you. The more I play the more I question siding with either one. You don't have to side with Osya.
  7. Fardragon has a point. Sagani speaks with excellent Standard American English which would sound foreign to him but bland to me. If she had a posh English accent he might understand why we from the USA find her accent not in character. I do have VA training and I do notice differences in accent. Standard American English is an accent invented by voice coaches for Radio announcers so that there would be a standard accent understandable by the majority of people in the USA. For someone not accustom to hearing this accent or a very similar one on a daily basis it would sound exotic. Here is a link that someone interested in the subject might enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBXVPerzYqk
  8. Yes she is well educated in how to live in a harsh climate where a lot of college educated people would die rather quickly. She probably speaks perfect whatever language they speak but even traveling around for five years wouldn't completely rub off her accent. She would still have a trace. I doubt she would take the time to have elocution lessons. People raised in Virginia have an accent even when having a Doctorate degree unless they intentionally learn what is called Standard American English. Pallegina is a paladin and since she is expected to represent the Vailian Republics so I assume has some training besides how to fight but she has an accent, a beautiful accent that makes her stand out. It fits her and adds to her charm. I have a friend who was born and raised in Texas, fourth generation Texan, he has a college education is very intelligent is a historian and a very good writer but he does have a Texas accent. I could go on and one. The point is that an accent doesn't mean you are stupid or backwards in fact as I posted before we all have accents.
  9. I agree with Crucis; The actress who did Sagani has a lovely voice but I didn't feel it suited the part. It was too educated. I lived in New York city for 25 years where you will hear such a multitude of accents. We all have accents and the trick is choosing the right accent for the part. I loved "Allo, Allo" but it was a farce meant to be laughed at and thus over done.
  10. People seem to forget that this is a low budget game made by a small team. It is filled with detail. I am constantly being surprised by things I find and that others find and post. I also think it is unfair to compare it to games that have had expansions and mods added to the original games. There is nothing wrong with stating what we would like to see in the future but to voice complaints about the game is doing the developers an injustice in my opinion. To me it is obvious that they worked hard on this game, put a lot of creative work into it. Talented people worked on this game. They deserve our appreciation.
  11. If people are looking for portraits this is the place to look. http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/71722-the-custom-portraits-thread/ You will find some really great portraits there.
  12. Durance to me represents people who are angry at themselves, at life and have lost the capacity to cope, to find that Second Chance. He was betrayed by his god and thus his life has no meaning. He is "The Angry One". Why join with the protagonist? Not sure but maybe he hopes to either find some meaning through another or maybe just to have someone to vent with and against.
  13. One quest in Gilded Vale will give you a good shield a bit unusual looking. Give it to Eder or another front liner.
  14. I'm currently trying something a bit different from my play style. A Nature Godlike, Aristocratic background Priest of Berath. Stats are Mtg=16 Int=14 Dex=14 Res=14 I didn't dump any stats but if I did it would be Per and then raise Res t=16. Even so I am getting some good dialogue options. The thing with priests is that depending on the chosen deity you have favored and unflavored disposition. Berath is favored=stoic and rational and disfavored =passionate and cruel. For some reason in PoE resolve seems to be very important for dialogue options. Gilded Vale is a sad place, I think the saddest place in the game. Dyrford Village has the same problem but doesn't seem as sad to me. The people there seem stronger, more independent to me.
  15. Why should joinable companions be superior in some way to what the player can create? Eder does have constant recovery and can be built, buffed, given items that make him a fantastic tank. He's my man and go no where without him. My hired barbarian can hold her own though and is a big asset. As far as I am concerned I have the best of two worlds rolled into one.
  16. And they did. Man, what an echo chamber of whine this forum has become since everyone who was happy with the end product went away to play the game... I like the game and I pop in every day to the forum to see what is being discussed. Some of the discussions are great but it does seem as if lately there have been these threads trying to tell us how bad the game is. Some of us try and voice a dissenting opinion. The game is in my opinion better than the IE games.
  17. Whether pre-made or hired adventurer depends on what is important to you. Also now that you can drop the pre-mades to level 1 you can build them up as you like.
  18. I think the strength of the soul is important when dealing with both the Watcher and the Awakened aspects.
  19. Voice Acting is not easy. Someone may have a beautiful speaking voice but not be able to do voice acting. It is acting, it has to be clear enough for the player to understand but sound natural. The best voice actors, at least many of the best, have acting experience. They are trained, they practice and practice and then practice some more. Bad voice acting can ruin a game. I gave my copy of Wasteland 2 away because after listening to some of the VA I knew it would drive me to want to do some real killing.
  20. I have no idea but if I was able to choose one over the other I would choose the voice over. A static portrait would add little for me but the voice does add a lot.
  21. I feel the same way. Plus with a limited budget devs do need to prioritize. Whether it is a matter of paying graphic artists or voice actors it still costs money. A lot of work goes into making a game.
